WILMINGTON GRAMMAR SCHOOL FOR GIRLS
IN PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE
WELCOME
to Wilmington Grammar School for Girls In our rapidly changing world the choice of your daughter’s secondary school is important and we recognise how challenging that can be and how much time you will invest in getting it right.
At Wilmington Grammar School for Girls we pride ourselves on developing every aspect of the young women in our care in order to equip them with the skills and confidence academically, socially and emotionally to reach their potential. The school’s ethos is one of constant challenge and encouragement to step beyond their comfort zone and ensure personal growth together with an appetite for deep, lifelong learning. The key to this is happy and contented students who are prepared to take risks and so explore beyond their perceived boundaries. Students consistently achieve outstanding examination results as a consequence of high quality specialist teaching, as well as a clear understanding of what is required to gain the highest grades. We hope that this will make you want to find out more about our school and so would invite you to attend one of our open evenings when you will be able to meet our students and staff and experience for yourself all that is unique about our school.
“ My daughter loves coming to school. She is flourishing academically and has made a wide circle of new friends.” Mrs Michelle Lawson, Head Teacher

MINDSET Our motto is ‘In pursuit of excellence’ and this acknowledges that we are all, ‘work-in-progress’, striving for continuous improvement. At WGSG we encourage our students to be reflective and embrace challenges, to learn from mistakes and develop the resilience to have another attempt. This growth approach can lead to a fulfilling school life and a willingness to adapt to change. It nurtures learners who value critique, support each other and feel empowered to drive their own learning.
“ I just love this school – it has helped me become who I am and I like who I am.” Year 11 student

What we
LEARN We provide an outstanding experience that fosters a love of learning. Through innovative and skilful teaching, students are able to access a wide curriculum and examination results illustrate that progress within school is very high. Although we offer traditional subjects such as English, maths and science, we also pride ourselves on offering a destination driven focus, so students also have the opportunity to experience subjects that add value to their futures. We are part of the Mandarin Excellence Programme for example, and offer Finance awards, develop entrepreneurial challenges to boost innovation and engage in the newest design and construction qualifications to meet the needs of the local and national economy. Our students are encouraged to recognise their individual skills and attributes and we value and commend effort in a climate of celebration to ensure students grow in confidence.

How we
LEARN There is no substitute for hard work and our pupils are expected to apply the knowledge they acquire in a wide range of situations. Lessons typically contain a variety of creative activities, from direct instruction to independent assignments, practical and group work. Whatever the task, our pupils are expected to be organised, focused and to contribute fully. Our code of conduct is co-constructed with our students and older students coach younger students to the mutual benefit of all.
