Learning at the Academy “ TEACHERS ENCOURAGE A ‘CAN DO’ PHILOSOPHY THAT STUDENTS RESPOND TO AND SO OFTEN WORK TO HIGHER LEVELS.”

Upon joining our Academy, students are provided with a forecast grade to aspire to. Their progress towards this grade is continually measured, with students being provided with personalised feedback, enabling them to make consistent progress. We provide a supportive and purposeful environment which inspires learning and scholarship.

Students begin to personalise their education at the end of Key Stage Three, as they consider their future pathways towards GCSE. We offer a broad range of subjects delivered by specialist teaching staff, to equip students for further study and future employment. We encourage as much student choice as possible, within the national framework of qualifications.

We are renowned for our high academic expectations, as well as our expectations of students’ character. We pride ourselves on the embedding of zest, grit, confidence and responsibility into every aspect of Academy life. In the classroom, teachers facilitate lessons where students are encouraged to be curious and explore a variety of challenging subjects throughout their seven year journey. Every stage of our curriculum is continually reviewed and adapted to introduce students to a range of subjects and learning experiences, which support a consistent yet unique educational experience.

Students who find aspects of learning challenging are supported by our dedicated team of Learning Support Tutors, who work tirelessly to ensure all students feel they can achieve and succeed. We monitor every student and are proud to offer tailored intervention sessions to any student who needs extra support, guidance or further challenge.

Making progress at Harris Academy Chafford Hundred The success of our Academy lies in the relationship built between our staff, students and their guardians. Communication regarding student progress begins with the transition process, linking Primary School to Secondary School. Our students are then fully integrated through provisions set by our Key Stage Three, Special Educational Needs and Pastoral Teams. This foundational support encourages well rounded student development. Once they are part of our community, Students are encouraged to contribute to the Academy and have their voices heard through our Student voice initiative.

Guardians are kept fully informed of the progress of their child, at every Key Stage. Regular updates on the progress of students are available throughout the school year via data reports, email, phone calls home, parent consultation and parent information evenings. To complement this, guardians are welcome to contact our teachers regarding their child’s progress through our school website. As well as the outstanding teaching and learning your child will experience at our Academy, your child will also receive regular independent learning and preparation tasks at each level to inspire a curiosity beyond the classroom. These tasks encourage students to become invested scholars and give them the opportunity to take responsibility for their learning.

“ THE ACADEMY DOES EVERYTHING IT CAN TO MAKE SURE THAT BARRIERS TO LEARNING ARE OVERCOME THROUGH EXCEPTIONALLY EFFECTIVE CARE, GUIDANCE AND SUPPORT PROVISION.”
