ACHIEVEMENT FOR ALL St James’ Sixth Form offers a variety of qualifications and pathways, both academic and vocational. Students are guided to undertake courses best matched to their interests, qualifications and career plans.

Our brand new Sixth Form centre has been designed to create a perfect study space to support our engaging and interactive learning experience including; silent study room, social study area, café and outdoor area. This environment allows students to organise their own learning to best suit their needs during their study periods which will lead to their own academic success.

We are fortunate to have a highly qualified, dynamic and enthusiastic staff who adapt their teaching techniques to suit different abilities and learning styles, and who challenge and motivate students to succeed.

In addition to their chosen subjects, students’ learning is complemented by an extensive enrichment programme and pastoral curriculum. All students also follow a non-examined course in Religious Studies which enables them to discuss and debate moral and ethical issues. The Enrichment programme allows students to choose a programme outside of their academic study to develop their wider skills; students choose from a plethora of activities for example; EPQ, Cooking on a budget, mindfulness as well as a wide variety of sports. This is one of our students’ favourite aspects of their timetable as they develop holistically and can relax whilst learning new skills. Our pastoral curriculum teaches our students to develop their Personal Social and Health Education, Citizenship, literacy and provides guidance and support for their desired career post-Sixth Form. Throughout the two years, we have guest speakers from industry and many of the top universities including Oxbridge and International institutions providing input to our students to help in their preparation for their future.

“STUDENTS ARE DILIGENT, HARDWORKING AND SMARTLY ATTIRED. THEY HAVE HIGH ASPIRATIONS FOR THEIR FUTURES AND UTILISE THEIR TEACHERS’ SUPPORT TO ACHIEVE THIS.” OFSTED 2017

BUILDING FUTURE LEADERS Sixth Form students play a key role in the life of the school, acting as role models and ambassadors. Students are helped to develop leadership qualities through their participation in numerous opportunities to contribute to the wider life of the school. Students lead on whole school initiatives, whether as Head Student, Key Stage Captains, Year Captains, Subject Ambassadors, House Captains or mentors for younger students.

Students also show commitment to our school ethos by participating in charity work and fundraising. Our Sixth Formers represent the school on all formal occasions and play a key role in enhancing the school’s strong reputation.

DEVELOPING CONFIDENCE

FOR FUTURE SUCCESS Throughout their time with us, students are supported in their intended progression routes. High quality information, advice and guidance support students to decide whether higher or further education or a move into an apprenticeship or the work place is the most appropriate next step. Students access bespoke packages to support them in the preparation and application procedures for their post 18 options. These include visits to universities, guidance with CVs and job applications, mock interviews and support through the UCAS process. Students wishing to apply for medicine, dentistry, law or Oxbridge are provided with bespoke support tailored to their individual needs. Each student has personalised targets which are regularly discussed with tutors, and progress is closely monitored. Every aspect of their two year study contributes to preparing our students for the wider world and ensuring that they can access their desired future.
