Message from Executive Headteacher
Jo Dibb
The federation enables us to share excellent practice
I am delighted to hold the position of Executive Head of Islington Futures, working with the headteachers to support outstanding staff and students who can work and learn together to achieve even greater outcomes.
across our schools so that all our students can experience success, but that is not the whole story. There are so many other factors which play a part on the journey to adulthood, which is why our students benefit from a range of professionals to support their well-being, helping them to address the many issues faced by teenagers in the modern world. Learning and gaining qualifications in the traditional subjects is essential but so too is developing interests and skills in other areas. We enrich the curriculum giving our students access to amazing opportunities with professionals in the arts and sports, making full use of the wonderful resources around us in this vibrant city. We actively work to build students’ self- confidence so that
01
they believe in themselves, we nurture their dreams and help them to make a reality of their ambition.
Visio
n, Ethos & Values Achievement and Ambition, Becoming and Belonging, Courage and Compassion Islington Futures was established on the belief that together we are stronger and can meet the needs of our local communities. Our schools are inclusive, community schools and share a commitment to providing a rich curriculum which engages all students and enables them to achieve more than they dreamed was possible. We have a responsibility to ensure that our students have the qualifications and experience which will enable them to succeed in their chosen field and to make a positive contribution to their local and wider community. Our schools make a real contribution to creating a healthy and safe society. The future of cities like London depends on schools like ours, where young people from different backgrounds come together, to learn and play together in a harmonious environment.

Professional Develo & Opportunities All our schools are committed to providing opportunities for all staff to continually update their knowledge and skills with a view to improve Teaching, Learning and Assessment so that there is a maximum positive impact on students’ learning, progress and achievement. 05
Moreover, we recognise the contribution effective CPD makes to improving and maintaining staff morale, and to the recruitment and retention of teaching staff. Each school has a professional development offer and colleagues from across the federation are invited to participate. Staff praise the career development opportunities, the strong support network and our sense of community. The Angel Teaching School Alliance provides a comprehensive programme of professional development which includes: • Middle Leadership Programme • Expert Teacher Course • Senior Leadership Programme • Mentor scheme The TSA also provides support for initial teacher training and the teacher apprentice programme.

The Angel Islington Teaching School Alliance The TSA was established in 2015 and now has a membership of 17 schools both primary, secondary and special.
Our Vision Improving the education of all learners regardless of starting point or background.
Our Values • Building our community through education; • Having a passion for education; • Exploring creative approaches to teaching and learning; • Working in collaboration with all partners, inside and outside the alliance. The Director of the TSA also has a role in the Federation to ensure that all colleagues in all our schools are supported through the professional development offer. The local authority is closely involved in the TSA and it is the preferred provider for CPD.

Governors Message from our Chair of Governors Jill McLaughlin
I am delighted and honoured to be the Chair of Governors for Islington Futures Federation of Community Schools. I have been a governor in Islington since 2010. Islington Futures began in September 2018, so these are still early days. However, we are already able to bring in expertise at an affordable level and we are sharing issues and experiences across our school, learning from each other. We benefit from an excellent team of highly experienced and skilled Governors and Associates, all giving of their time, expertise, enthusiasm and good humour, to work to improve the life chances of all of the students in our federation schools. Our goal is for each of our schools to become the school of choice for their area through a dedicated process of engagement, development and a lot of hard work!

The Future of the Federation We have strong leadership and exceptional staff who enjoy working in our schools and making a difference to our young people.
The federation is still in its infancy but we are very proud of our successes in the short time that we have been in operation. We are seeing the benefits of working together both for staff and students and there are colleagues who work across the federation. However, we are not complacent and we are keen to explore options as we enter the next stage of our development and how we can further support the achievement and well-being of young people in our community. We aim to be at the forefront of educational thinking and known for our commitment, courage and
09
creativity in helping to shape the next generation.
