The Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls
“This is an outstanding school.” Ofsted 2019
WELCOME TO OUR “OUTSTANDING” SCHOOL FOR GIRLS s you flick through the following pages, you will gain an insight into what we can offer you by way of an extensive curriculum, teaching that excites, experiences that enthuse, and a setting which is safe and secure. At EWS we firmly believe that girls will achieve their true potential by being educated in an all-girl environment. Our statistics verify this again and again. Our pupils develop an appreciation for a full range of subjects and have excelled in progress scores.
Our Science and Mathematics specialist status provide our students with the skills and knowledge they need to embark on university courses in related fields, but an equal number of our students progress to careers in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
Each day presents several reasons why the school is so unique: fantastic, spacious grounds, superb cultural experiences, and dedicated staff who deliver and support exceptional teaching. But all of these things form a backdrop to the incredible students we educate. The young women who choose to come here develop an enthusiasm for learning which remains with them beyond their time at the school.
I look forward to meeting you and your child.

Every member of the Ellen Wilkinson family plays a part in welcoming our new students into the school. Whether it is through our Year 10 Chaperones or 1st Day Treasure Hunt, we purposefully create opportunities for our youngest students to extend their network, familiarise themselves with the setting and cultivate fantastic habits for their futures. The charm of Ellen Wilkinson lies in the positive energy we all thrive on and encourage in one another – in fact, it is the reason why our school is so special. We receive applications from students living in the London Borough of Ealing and applications from students in neighbouring boroughs.

CREATING CONFIDENT LEARNERS HIGH EXPECTATIONS, A STIMULATING CURRICULUM, AND GUIDANCE AND SUPPORT IN ALL ASPECTS COMBINE TO DEVELOP A SENSE OF CONFIDENCE AND INDEPENDENCE THAT EQUIP OUR STUDENTS FOR LIFE. e know that success means different things to each of us. Here, at Ellen Wilkinson, we create milestones for our students to experience success from the beginning. We treat each student as an individual and offer them the advice and guidance they need to select the right balance of subjects which will not only enable them to build a firm foundation for their future, but will also spark the interest which will spur them on through challenges. Success to us means having a ‘no limits’ approach to learning.
W
It is that confidence which drives our students to aspire to great things and expect the absolute best from themselves. Having the clarity of mind to say to oneself “I have done well” or “I know I could do better” and to trust one’s own ability underpins confident learning.

IN A SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY OUR STUDENTS ARE CONSTANTLY REMINDED OF THE CIRCLE OF CARE WHICH SUPPORTS THEM, INCLUDING THEIR FORM TUTOR, HEAD OF YEAR, PEER AND LEARNING MENTORS, AND FRIENDS. THIS IS THE ELLEN WILKINSON FAMILY. longside the year system, we foster a divisional structure – our own vertical house system – which enables us to connect younger and older students together and additionally helps students further up the school to develop attributes which will prepare them for larger responsibilities.
A
The help we offer our students extends well beyond those which address well-being and security. Our Academic Intervention and Monitoring schemes provide the reliable support needed to detect and address the specific academic challenges our students may be facing. We also support students with English as an Additional Language, as well as those with a variety of special needs.
Support, it goes without saying, is an integral part of what all of our teachers do routinely. But encouraging our students to boost, mentor and encourage one another means that as a school we are embedding a culture where camaraderie and care steer our moral compass. We take pride in the comprehensive curriculum programme to help pupils learn to keep themselves safe, in the form of enrichment days and the personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education and safeguarding assemblies.
