Welcome to
Scargill Junior School Scargill Junior School, is part of the Hornchurch Academy Trust, situated in South Hornchurch within the London Borough of Havering. At Scargill Junior School we strive for excellence in all that we do. We do this by setting very high standards and expectations for ourselves and our pupils. Our pupils are passionate, enthusiastic and caring. Our school motto is: Striving Jointly for Success. Recognising the importance of all stakeholders and the part they play. Our curriculum endeavours to equip all pupils with the necessary skills needed to be successful in life. We do this by ensuring we take every opportunity to inspire curiosity, facilitating meaningful links between subjects and engaging pupils with thinking about the values, ideas and objects that help to shape our lives. We aim to develop happy, well-rounded children with a love for learning. Mrs H. Graham - Head of School
“ Our school is a spectacular, amazing school that I am very proud to be part of.”

Our Scargill values
PRAISE
The school community identified a set of six core school values – PRAISE. These are explicitly taught and contribute to the development of our positive school ethos and culture for teaching. The six values are:
Perseverance Respect Aspiration Independence Sensitivity Enthusiasm 02
“ The values help to make our school extra special.”
These school values then underpin our ethos by: •
creating a calm and purposeful environment in which everyone feels valued;
•
creating a culture which is open, honest and harmonious;
•
supporting the development of good quality relationships between all members of the school community;
•
helping pupils to understand themselves, through an awareness of their inner selves;
•
encouraging pupils to develop their positive dispositions and to choose their attitudes;
•
developing emotional intelligence.
“ They help me to tackle problems and accomplish things I may have found difficult.” “ They help me to not give up. To do things I thought I couldn’t do or to do them better.” “ They give me an extra something to work towards.”

Health & Well-being
at Scargill As a school we believe first and foremost that your child must feel safe and be happy in order to succeed. All staff take a personal interest in the pastoral care of the children. Everyone makes it their priority to get to
know the children as quickly as possible so they are able to respond to their social and welfare needs. Any problems which cannot be resolved in the classroom are brought to the notice of the Deputy Head or Head of School. We are very fortunate to have a fantastic pastoral support team in the school and trust. We are able to offer support to both the pupils and parents. Should there be any cause for concern we would always contact you before starting any support and we hope that these arrangements will work in reverse and you will come to us to discuss any problems or worries you may have, no matter how unimportant they may seem. In addition to this, the school nursing team visit regularly to do routine medical checks and give general advice. Their support can be requested through school. We are an inclusive school and pupils with special educational needs are well catered for within our provision. Pupils will be given extra help and support on an individual basis or within a small group. Equality of opportunity is built into the curriculum and every step is taken to take account of pupil’s needs.
