OUR SCHOOL’S AIMS Pastoral Structure
Our school values Resilience, Creativity, Teamwork.
Aims for our children: That each child • Develops an enduring love of learning • Has opportunities to shine and experience success • Finds their own voice as a confident, independent creative-thinker and problem-solver • Learns to be a team player and a team leader • Grows into a well-rounded, tolerant citizen of an ever-changing world • Leaves us as a highly articulate, numerate, inquisitive and knowledgeable young person
Lady Barn House School has a maximum capacity of 506 pupils, which equates to a maximum of 22 children in each of our 23 classes. In the Nursery we have 2 classes; from Reception onwards, we have 3 classes in each year group. Each class has an allocated form teacher, supported by a dedicated teaching assistant/s up to Year 5. Our classes are of mixed ability and gender. We choose to reconfigure classes annually from Nursery to the start of Year 5 because it allows the children to get to know the whole year group better and broaden friendship groups, thereby helping with the social cohesion and mutual respect which we value so highly at Lady Barn.
PTA The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at Lady Barn House School works in a solely fundraising capacity, providing money for the School through the organisation of a variety of social events involving parents, children and staff. The money raised is a valuable supplement to existing school funds, and helps to ensure that our children benefit from excellent facilities and resources. Please contact: pta@ladybarnhouse.org for more information.

JOINING LADY BARN Nursery (3+ years)
Years 1 to 6
How to Apply
The first opportunity to join Lady Barn House School is in our pre-school Nursery. Pupils may enter the Nursery in the September following their third birthday. Registrations for a potential place are accepted from birth. Places are offered a year in advance of the start date and in order of date of registration, however, siblings of current pupils take priority.
Waiting lists are in operation for all year groups where there is not currently space available. Should a vacancy arise, then the next child on the waiting list will be invited for an assessment visit. These visits are run throughout the school year on an ‘as needed’ basis. The aim of the day is to establish whether Lady Barn is the kind of school where your child would flourish, and for your child to feel excited about the possibility of joining us.Your child will spend the day with a class in their chronological year group and undergo a variety of age-appropriate assessments and some classroom activities. No specific preparation for the assessments is needed. We are able to arrange remote assessments where a visit to the school is not possible (e.g. if a family are based overseas); in this instance, the assessment should be carried out independently by the child and we request that a current school report or reference is provided in support of the application.
Please refer to the tear-out page at the back of this booklet for guidance on ‘How to Apply’.
Reception (4+ years) Reception is our next point of entry, when we accept an additional 22 children, to reflect the number of classes expanding from two to three at that point. All children registered for the intake will be invited to join a pre-arranged two-hour observational nursery session during the autumn term prior to entry and places will be offered following these visits.
In the spring term, there are days set aside for entry the following academic year into Year 3,Year 4 and Year 5. Following a successful assessment day, we may be able to offer a place immediately, or a reserve place, pending notice from a current pupil. Lady Barn House School welcomes applications for admission from all sections of society and is non-discriminatory in line with the Equality Act (2010) and the School’s Equality Opportunities Policy. This applies to all pupils (including those in our EYFS setting) and rejects inappropriate discrimination on the grounds of gender, age, religion or belief, physical ability or disability (including HIV status), race (including colour, nationality, ethnicity, family, cultural or linguistic background). The school does not operate within a catchment or priority area.

MOVING ON TO SENIOR SCHOOL
SAFEGUARDING
Secondary School Destinations 2021 Our Year 6 pupils have again excelled in some of the most demanding entrance examinations for senior school entry in the country and we are particularly proud of their successes under such challenging circumstances during the pandemic. We are delighted that Lady Barn continues to prepare children for such a wide variety of schools. There are so many good schools locally, both state and independent. We think it is a particular strength of ours that we prepare children for any and all of them, because every child is different and they will be happiest and most successful when matched with a school that suits their personality, strengths and interests.
