STEM FACULTY Our STEM Faculty comprises biology, chemistry, computer science, design and technology, economics, mathematics, physics and psychology. Our outstanding teachers are drawn from a full range of specialisms and have in-depth knowledge of their subjects enabling them to provide the greatest level of challenge and support to our students.
2
During their studies at HAWI6, as well as developing their knowledge in their chosen subjects, students will gain invaluable transferable skills, such as critical thinking and problem-solving, which can be applied to a wide range of university courses and professions. There are exciting opportunities for our STEM students to deepen their knowledge outside the classroom, including trips to CERN in Switzerland, visits to leading medical schools and key scientific institutions including the Royal Society of Chemistry, the National Physical Laboratory and the Royal Society of Biology. These excursions provide opportunities for students to engage with real-life applications of the concepts they are investigating and showcase a wide range of fulfilling careers to aspire to.
HUMANITIES FACULTY Reflecting a full breadth of studies on human society, nature and culture, our Humanities Faculty comprises English literature, politics, classics, geography, history and religious studies. Through exceptional teaching from subject specialists, our sixth formers grapple with the moral and ethical values that underpin society, explore seminal texts and develop knowledge and ideas about the events and ideas that have shaped the world. With a programme of museum visits and seminars with academics, we aim to expand our students’ engagement with their courses. We make the most of our academy’s location and have excellent links with the Royal Geographical Society, the Historical Association, King’s College School, the British Library and our local Russell Group universities.
3
LANGUAGES FACULTY The ability to forge deep and meaningful connections, understand world views and communicate with intention is rooted in language. Our Languages Faculty aims to develop articulate and accurate linguists. We offer A level Spanish led by expert teachers, including native speakers who can offer a personal insight into their country’s culture. Through our partnership with King’s College School, Wimbledon, students have the opportunity to study other languages such as French, German, Classical Greek and Latin. We promote students’ curiosity and understanding of different countries and their culture, people, history and beliefs. To support this, we have established links with the British Council, the British Film Institute and leading universities and offer a range of talks, visits and workshops. We also offer international trips to support our students to develop into conscientious and confident communicators.
4
ARTS FACULTY Within our Arts Faculty, courses in art and design, drama and theatre studies and music are delivered within industry-standard specialist facilities.
Our curriculum seeks to broaden and deepen students’ understanding of the powerful and humanising influence of the arts, whilst embedding hands-on practical expertise within their specialist craft. Students share the teaching team’s passion for the arts and benefit from frequent visits to the world-class galleries, theatres, and music halls on our doorstep in London. Our teachers inspire a deep knowledge of seminal artists, practitioners and composers, which students can use as a springboard for their own practice.
5
SPORTS FACULTY At HAWI6, we believe that encouraging participation in sporting opportunities is crucial to the development of resilience, confidence, competence and leadership. Our Sports Faculty encompasses not only A Level Physical Education but also a host of sports teams, athletic clubs and recreational games to inspire and support our students to succeed.
6
Along with outstanding teaching and coaching, students have access to state-of-the-art facilities including our sports hall, dance studio and multi-use games area. Our Sports Faculty has close links with AFC Wimbledon, Merton Cricket Club, the Royal Academy of Dance and Herne Hill Harriers Athletics Club. We also offer professional coaching in athletics, football, netball, cricket and dance to ensure that HAWI6 students can compete at the highest level.
