Welcome to Tring School

Our School is a Great School! Tring School allows all students to flourish and succeed in an inspiring, academically challenging and nurturing environment.

Our ambition is for every student to maximise their full potential and develop into confident, responsible citizens who can lead successful and fulfilling lives.

We place students at the heart of everything we do and offer a creative and innovative curriculum, with lessons designed to deliver a broad and enriching education, as well as ignite a passion for learning.

We want our students to succeed and we make no apology for having high expectations for all students and setting high standards in behaviour, academic achievement, uniform and attitudes to learning.

As a Church of England school, our blend of Christian values combined with high-quality first teaching and the breadth of curriculum offers a rich environment for progress. This allows students to achieve the very best outcomes in their examinations, as well as acquire the necessary skills to be successful in life.

At Tring School, we expect great things from our young people and firmly believe that education has the power to change lives. With students’ and parents’ full support, working in partnership with our staff and governors, we can ensure each child fulfils our motto ‘Live to Learn and Learn to Live.’

We look forward to welcoming you/your child into our school community and hope that they are inspired and challenged by the unique and exciting opportunities on offer.

Learning Experience

Throughout a student’s journey at Tring School, their academic progress and personal development are woven together. Our curriculums are designed to offer personalised opportunities to allow every student to thrive and be ready for the next stage of learning.

Every subject insists upon all students being readers and within each one, opportunities are provided to explore and promote diversity and inclusion to further fuel students’ curiosity in and passion for those curriculum areas. At the same time, we want our young people to be independent and resilient, both in and outside the classroom and encourage them not to be afraid of making mistakes and taking risks.

Students become autonomous learners through extension work, peer and self-assessment, which helps them to stretch and challenge themselves to aspire to achieve the highest standards. Progress is tracked and monitored closely, ensuring achievements are recognised and celebrated.

Each subject is staffed by highly qualified specialist teams of teachers and support staff. We work together to develop a programme of learning which is appropriate to the needs of the individual, as well as developing in each student a sense of enjoyment in the academic challenge.

We have a relentless drive for excellence both in our teaching standards and our students’ achievements.

After a strong Key Stage 3 foundation, students commence GCSE studies at the end of Year 9. The curriculum is constructed to allow choice and flexibility in a wide range of academic and applied subjects.

The majority of students will follow the English Baccalaureate suite: English, Maths, Science, a chosen Humanity, a Modern Foreign Language, plus two other subjects.

In Years 12 and 13, students tailor their subject choices further, selecting 3 or 4 subjects from an exceptionally wide range of courses. These students take responsibility for and ownership of their learning, preparing themselves for the transition from school into higher/ further education and employment.

Learning In Action

Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning journey at Tring School.

All students have access to their own Chromebook and a range of technologies which provide a challenging and stimulating learning experience.

Highly skilled and committed staff deliver engaging and innovative lessons to inspire awe and wonder among students in their learning.

Learning does not purely happen in the classroom. Our extra-curricular and enrichment activities provide students with exciting opportunities to explore beyond subject curricula and we are proud that students are actively involved in all aspects of school life.

Enriched Learning

We are ambitious for all of our young people and want them to succeed in every aspect of school life.

Our Tring School Charter promotes and encourages students to foster and develop a range of learning skills and experiences both within the school and the wider community. These include leadership, volunteering, taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, our range of House Events, joining internal and external clubs and societies, representing the school in sporting and other events, as well as performing in music, drama and dance activities. Participation is celebrated through achievement points, celebration breakfasts, assemblies, and the annual Pride of Tring School Awards.

We provide an outstanding range of enrichment activities including a dedicated Extended Learning Day each term focussing on futures, diversity and awe and wonder.

Local, national and international visits allow our students to extend their learning outside the school and include residential trips, cultural visits to art galleries, museums, sites of historical interest and team-building activities to help develop friendships and build confidence. Our World Challenge trips have included destinations such as Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Zambia, Belize, Laos, Borneo, Peru, India and Tanzania.

The school enjoys excellent sporting facilities including a new purpose-built sports hall and a recently refurbished swimming pool. The school has an enviable record of sporting success and good links with local sports facilities and clubs.

Our students are encouraged to participate in physical activity both in and out of school. Students represent the school at district, regional and national levels in sports competitions.

A diverse range of clubs and activities are offered to students before school, during lunchtime and after school. These include book club, games club, Christian Union participation, public speaking, creative writing and many more. We also welcome a range of interesting and inspiring visitors into the school, including theatre groups, authors and inspirational speakers. Master classes take place in certain areas and visits to universities and other educational establishments are organised to help students broaden their horizons and prepare for their next steps.

Support and Nurture

Students learn best when they are in a safe, secure and happy environment.

The commitment of our highly professional staff underpins the warmth and vibrancy of our school community. Everyone is recognised and cared for as an individual and this is one of our guiding principles.

This level of care and support is maintained throughout by a dedicated Student Support Team which includes counsellors, the wellbeing team, the School Chaplain and our non-teaching Heads of Houses.

Each student is part of a key-stage vertical tutor group. This is hugely beneficial in helping students develop wider connections beyond their year group. Tutor groups belong to one of four houses: Ascott, Claydon, Halton and Waddesdon. Each house is led by the Head of House who, along with a team of form tutors, is responsible for the welfare and progress of students, as well as overseeing attendance, punctuality and uniform.

Adherence to these high standards helps to create a cohesive, well-functioning and supportive community. Form tutors maintain close contact with parents and play a vital role in reinforcing our behaviour standards and monitoring and supporting academic progress.

We are extremely proud of our robust pastoral team who provide excellent support for all students and their range of individual needs. We work hard to develop strong relationships between staff, parents, carers and students to ensure a safe and secure environment for all students.

Student Leadership

Our students are at the heart of Tring School and there are many opportunities for them to take leadership roles as well as participate in all aspects of representing student voices.

Our student-led council provides a forum for every student’s voice to be heard. In addition, senior students lead whole-school initiatives and community projects. Students actively engage in mentoring and supporting younger students from our Trust schools.
