PRINCIPAL
We offer an exciting and ambitious seven year journey that sets our students up for life.
I am delighted to welcome you to the Sir Robert Woodard Academy, a popular and vibrant learning community serving the families of Lancing, Sompting and Shoreham.
We offer an exciting and ambitious seven year journey that sets our students up for life. Alongside great teaching, our students benefit from an outstanding enrichment programme complete with world class international trips and visits. Whether it’s skiing in the Alps or debating global issues at the UN in New York our students are encouraged to think big and Aspire to Achieve.
This spirit of ambition has seen our recent graduates go on to a range of impressive destinations including Oxbridge and Russell Group universities, The Central School of Speech and Drama, apprenticeships at top companies including Apple and top accountancy firms. Careers advice is a core tenet of what we do. Every student receives personalized careers advice.
We host annual careers fairs and there are multiple opportunities over the seven years to meet and engage with employers. Our teachers take every opportunity to make the curriculum relevant to the world of work.
We make full use of our excellent facilities and are committed to offering an extended day. Whether it’s before school basketball or after school drama, this is where students make friends and develop hobbies and interests for life.

AN INSPIRING CURRICULUM
We seek to motivate and inspire our students, so that they face the world head on, with confidence and curiosity.
Driven by our motto, ‘Aspire to Achieve’, The Sir Robert Woodard Academy is committed to providing a broad and ambitious curriculum for all students.
We frame our curriculum with thinking about the ‘SRWA student at 25’, and the experiences, opportunities and entitlement to learning that we want for our community.
Our rich curriculum is designed and implemented, by subject experts, who ensure that content and concepts are applied progressively across sequential stages of learning.
Whilst confirming our commitment to the broad and balanced principles of the national curriculum, we seek to motivate and inspire our students, so that they face the world head up, with confidence and curiosity.
We want students to develop new knowledge and skills across a wide range of subject disciplines, by providing them with opportunities to know more, see more and do more.
At Key Stage 3 all students are offered a breadth of subjects to allow them to explore their academic strengths, experience a range of learning and build up increasingly robust, interconnected schema.
At Key Stage 4 all students have the right to study the EBacc, regardless of prior attainment. They receive bespoke guidance and are advised to study the combination of subjects that will give them the best foundation for their next stage.
Many students stay with us for the 7 year curriculum journey, with leavers moving off to top Universities across the country.
BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
Curriculum reaches far outside the classroom at the Sir Robert Woodard Academy. We are committed to educating ‘the whole child’, supporting each individual to explore their interests and expand their horizons.
Personal development and enrichment are integral to academy life. We encourage all students to participate in our extended curriculum, which includes a rich after-school offer of clubs and extracurricular activities such as the Super Curriculum and various student leadership opportunities. With options ranging from Chess Club to Book Club, Martial Arts to Yoga, Cookery Club to Creative Writing, and Greenpower Car to Duke of Edinburgh, there is something for everyone.
The Performing Arts are a celebrated aspect of life at the Academy, with a variety of high-quality productions each year. These opportunities allow students to showcase their talents in drama, music, and dance, as well as develop skills behind the scenes.
Sports are another strength of the Academy, offering a wide range of clubs and teams. Students are encouraged to participate in their chosen sports and many proudly represent the Academy in competitions.
Our overseas trips create unique memories and provide a global perspective.
Further beyond the classroom, we encourage students to participate in the numerous trips and educational visits we run. Recent international destinations have included Berlin, New York, Barcelona, Iceland, and Italy- experiences that create lasting memories and help build a global perspective.
We seek to equip our students with critical thinking abilities, a global outlook, and the necessary skills to adapt and thrive in the modern world.
W6 AND THE SEVEN-YEAR
JOURNEY
We look forward to guiding your child through their seven-year journey at SRWA, from year 7 to our sixth form, then onwards to university or the world of work.
At W6 Sixth Form, students enjoy a more independent setting in their dedicated W6 building, separate yet connected to the main school. Our collaborative approach promotes strong relationships between students and teachers, enabling them to achieve their goals while fostering autonomy and responsibility.
The work we do at W6 is all about helping young people to find their passion, develop that into an ambitious destination. We are immensely proud of what our students achieve, regularly gaining entry to Oxford and other Russell Group universities.
Students at W6 flourish as individuals, build lasting friendships, and have the opportunity to experience incredible trips such as to New York. They benefit from a mature college atmosphere while enjoying the resources and support of SRWA. The dynamic with teachers evolves, allowing students to explore subjects of their choice with guidance from their tutors.
By the end of their ‘seven-year journey,’ our students emerge as confident, wellrounded individuals ready to make a positive impact on society and access elitelevel destinations, equipped with critical thinking abilities, a global outlook, and the skills to thrive in the modern world.
At SRWA we work hard to ensure that our Academy is well connected to the real world. We enjoy fantastic support from the local business community and host successful careers events where our students get to interview industry experts and learn about different career paths and choices from the horse’s mouth.
LINKS AND PARTNERSHIPS
It is important to us that we bring learning to life wherever possible so our students take part in real life science research, they build and race their own car through Greenpower and they perform in real theatres, learning from working professionals thanks to our association with Chichester Festival Theatre and the National Theatre. In sports we are proud to be the home of the Sussex Bears basketball team and have many other sport partnerships that run external extracurricular clubs in areas such as table tennis, martial arts and skateboarding.
As part of the Woodard Academies Trust and the wider Woodard Corporation family, we are fortunate to benefit from close working links with Lancing and Hurstpierpoint Colleges, both among the best independent schools in the country. We share expertise and curriculum knowledge, broadening the range of opportunities available to both our students and staff.
