WELCOME

Thank you for your interest in Murray Park School. On behalf of all our staff, pupils and governors, I would like to offer you a warm welcome.

We trust that this prospectus provides an insight into our values – which permeate through everything we do. Our Ofsted judgement of Good, in September 2022, solidified our belief that we have a fantastic school, where pupils thrive and move on to become confident young adults.

At Murray Park School, our curriculum vision is to provide an ambitious and inspirational education for all our pupils. Our strong set of values: Perseverance, Respect, Independence, Dreams and Excellence (PRIDE) underpin our ethos, developing cultural capital in all we do. Through our curriculum, our pupils develop the confidence to embrace the responsibilities that life has to offer and to become valued members of the community, both now and in the future.

Please contact the school should you have any questions or would like a tour.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

For

Murray

Park pupils, learning extends far

beyond the classroom with a diverse range of opportunities designed to enrich pupils’ experiences and develop their character.

From exciting extra-curricular clubs to international trips, we provide a wealth of avenues for personal growth and development. Whether it’s participating in sports teams, engaging in community service projects, or embarking on educational trips and exchanges, our pupils have ample opportunities to explore their passions, build meaningful connections and discover their full potential outside of the classroom.

• Careers: Our careers advisor works in our dedicated careers centre with all pupils to provide them with the advice they require. Pupils are given individual help at each stage, from choosing their subjects in Year 9 to post-school destinations. We have been awarded the Career Mark in recognition of our work in this area.

• Trips: Each year, pupils have numerous trip opportunities. This includes recent international visits to Spain, Greece, Kenya and China.

• Clubs: Clubs run each day after-school and during lunchtimes which foster a wide-range of interests for our pupils. We expect all pupils to attend at least one club.

• Communication: We have a dedicated app on the Apple and Android app store which allows parents to be kept up to date with all opportunities in school.

• Pupil Leadership: The Murray Park Parliament includes all year groups and meets regularly to obtain the views of our pupils on all areas of the school. In Year 11, pupils can become Prefects and Senior Pupils.

• The Charter for Success: An initiative aimed to cultivate confidence, resilience and independence by encouraging pupils to engage in diverse opportunities. As pupils complete more charter activities, they are given badges and certificates.

• Duke of Edinburgh: The Duke of Edinburgh programme offers the opportunity to develop essential life skills, including leadership, teamwork, and resilience, through a series of challenging and rewarding activities.

SETTLING AT SECONDARY

“Summer school is a fantastic way of helping the Year 7s settle into school, make new friends and reduce the nerves associated with starting a new school – thank you!”

At

Murray Park, we understand the significance of the transition from primary to secondary education, and our commitment to ensuring a seamless journey is evident through our strong partnerships with primary schools and our proven transition programme.

Prior to a pupil’s arrival, extensive liaison occurs to familiarise ourselves with their academic abilities and friendship groups, facilitating a smooth transition. Through personalised support and a welcoming environment, we strive to make this transition period as comfortable and enriching as possible, setting the stage for continued success at Murray Park.

• Transition days: These allow pupils while in Year 6 to spend time at Murray Park for a taste of what school life is like by experiencing lessons and meeting staff.

• Form tutor: Each pupil has a form tutor who they see each morning to provide support and routine.

• Summer school: We host a summer school in August for all Year 7s. It’s an action-packed week with enrichment sessions, sports activities and a further opportunity to get to know staff and pupils.

• Transition team: We have a dedicated transition co-ordinator who works to settle in the new Year 7s and visits Year 6s to get to know them individually.

• Information evenings: We host several information evenings. These take place before pupils start and over the course of a pupil’s time with us.
