STEP Academy Trust

STEP Academy Trust was established in 2011. The mission of the Trust, to improve the life chances of all children, where we have the capacity to make a difference, we are morally bound to so, is what binds the Trust together as one.

Our unique way of operating as one organisation across multiple sites allows an agreed level of consistency, and support, which enables all children to access the highest level of education.

As part of our commitment to equality, we champion respect and inclusivity in our academies. The well-being of our pupils, staff and stakeholders is paramount to us and we aim to provide a happy, safe and secure environment across our communities.

Because we work as one team across many academies, your child will have the opportunity to enjoy inter-STEP tournaments for Sports and Debating. We also safeguard your child’s health by providing a nutritious meal, freshly prepared by our in-house catering team.

We hope you enjoy finding out more about our academies, though please do look around and ask our team anything further you would like to know. We would love for you to pick one of our amazing academies for your child’s ongoing educational journey.

What Pupils Say About Us:

I love how I represent other children in the academy on the Pupil Parliament. I like the fact that I can act like the Prime Minister. I have learnt about the skills of debating and this has helped me to be patient, be a good listener and know that children have the right to speak.

Our Curriculum Approach

At Turnham Academy communication, collaboration and curiosity are at the centre of all that we do.

We aim to create a nurturing school community where our children’s learning experiences are varied and inclusive; ensuring the highest standards of learning, where all children reach their full potential whilst being inspired to continue learning in the future.

Turnham Academy teaches with inclusion, diversity and equality at the centre of all our curriculum decisions, with the focus on creating a balanced view of the world and reflecting our community.

Our key drivers are communication, collaboration and curiosity, which underpin our curriculum rationale. Children are encouraged to lead their learning; to ponder, to dream, to discover and to ask questions.

At Turnham Academy, our pupils are empowered and know they have a voice worth listening to. Our children will be equipped with the social-skills to enable them to work cooperatively with those around them.

I love my learning at Turnham because it is fun and challenging.

Enrichment and Extra-curricular Activities

Turnham Academy provides an array of enrichment programmes and extracurricular activities, giving pupils the opportunity to be involved in a range of projects, competitive and non-competitive sports, creative and performing arts as well as academic sessions.

We believe that extra-curricular activity is an essential part of our pupils’ development.

Each class at Turnham Academy goes on at least one educational visit per half term. These range from visits to local parks and landmarks, to the world famous museums of London, to adventures even further afield. In Year 6, our pupils get to experience an overnight residential stay.

Turnham Academy has first class facilities, ranging from our dance and drama hall to our brand new 3G football pitch, “The Rocky and Wrighty Arena”, recently opened by our ex-pupil, ex-Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright. Here, we host a range of friendly competitions and tournaments in a variety of sports. We also have strong partnerships with Millwall Football Club, Hillyfielders Football Club, Girls United and Nike.
