Inspire, challenge and achieve together

Our Mission Danetree is a caring school where learning is creative, challenging and inspiring; enabling all to achieve their potential.

A new beginning Welcome Thank you for expressing an interest in Danetree Junior School; the first Primary Academy in Epsom & Ewell and judged by Ofsted in June 2014 to be a ‘good’ school. Our school is set in fantastic grounds and our forward thinking approach and dedicated staff aim to provide the best education for our children, bringing learning to life through our innovative thematic curriculum. When combined with our varied menu of clubs and activities, Danetree is an exciting prospect for your son or daughter. As an Academy within GLF Schools, we benefit from sharing outstanding resources, facilities and support with Glyn School, Cuddington Croft Primary School and other GLF Schools.

We welcome you to view Danetree and see our children in action. Our Year 6 ambassadors are keen to show you around their school and you will have the opportunity to ask them about their experience of school life. We look forward to meeting you. James Broad Headteacher

Expectations We are committed to an ethos of high expectations and endeavour to treat our children as individuals, inspired with confidence to reach their full potential as twenty-first century citizens. In a stimulating learning environment, children are expected to be respectful, polite, honest and contribute to our school community. As parents you will expect us to care for your children; we achieve this through determined academic focus, extra-curricular opportunities and nurturing our children’s social development. Our ‘Behaviour for Learning’ strategies and reward systems reflect our excellent pastoral care whilst celebrating children’s achievements. We recognise that we are a large school and we have established a system that supports the children throughout their time at the school on an individual basis.

“ Pupils typically say ‘adults put us first’.” Ofsted 2014

“ Leaders at all levels are passionate about the school and want the best for the pupils. Ofsted 2014

An inspiring curriculum “Pupils enjoy school and are especially enthusiastic about practical activities and work that has a clear relevance to everyday life.” Ofsted 2014

At Danetree we believe that learning should be enjoyable and motivational, and must provide a variety of opportunities for all. We are proud of our ‘Creative Curriculum’, which is adapted from the Cornerstones Curriculum to capture our children’s interest and imagination. This curriculum has been nominated for national awards and is built on years of experience and a four-stage teaching and learning philosophy: Engage, Develop, Innovate, Express. Our curriculum allows the children to develop and apply the skills they need to make an effective transition to secondary school and to contribute positively to society. In order to deliver a tailored approach to children’s learning, every child is taught in personalised groups for mathematics across the school. This ensures that children are taught at a pace that is appropriate to them and conducive to effective learning. The children in every year group benefit from specialist teaching in French and PE as well and learning support is provided for individual children or classes as required.

Extensive facilities

Our impressive facilities include extensive playing fields, a gymnasium and a dedicated music room. Our hall, with stage and sound system, plays host to regular performances by the children; some of which you are welcome to attend. The ‘Danetree Diner’, our purpose-built dining hall which opened in 2010, offers nutritious meals, freshly cooked on-site, and a bright, welcoming environment for the children to enjoy their lunchtimes. We are passionate about providing children with state of the art resources, from our well-equipped ICT suite, furnished with 32 PCs to banks of Apple iPads and our newly refurbished Learning Resource Centre. Each classroom enjoys the benefit of an Interactive Whiteboard and other digital equipment such as visualisers, web-cams and digital microscopes to enhance learning. We receive positive feedback that an attraction to prospective Year 2 families is our self-contained Year 3 block which boasts large classrooms, designed on combining the best elements of both infant and junior learning environments. Our parents often comment on how seamless this makes the transition from our neighbouring infant schools.

“ My child settled remarkably quickly, in an environment where everyone knew his name, whilst still benefiting from being part of a larger junior school.” Year 3 Parent

A collaborative approach to learning We place emphasis on the vital role that parents play in the education of their children and welcome parental involvement in all aspects of school life. We encourage parents, carers and other volunteers from the local community to become ‘Reading Rangers’ or ‘Parent Helpers.’

We have an informed and supportive Governing Body who work closely with our passionate and committed staff. Our enthusiastic and active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) provide social and fund-raising activities and we would welcome your contribution.

Over the years, we have forged strong links with a number of local groups and services that allow us to offer our children a unique blend of varied activities, ranging from church-led activities, to sporting, musical and craft clubs. In addition we provide parents with the flexibility of having an extended day; our dining facility hosts a breakfast club and after school care.

We value our relationship with our feeder infant and local secondary schools, to ensure that transition at both key stages is seamless and effective with parents being informed every step of the way.
