Welcome
to Enfield County School
I am delighted to welcome you to Enfield County School which opened in 1967 following the amalgamation of two well-established girls’ schools, each with a long tradition of high achievement and academic excellence. We are now an inclusive, multi-cultural comprehensive school with specialist Language College status where we offer an exciting and vibrant education for our students. Through a combination of high expectations, inspirational learning experiences and a safe and inclusive ethos, our ultimate aim is to prepare all of our students for life and work in the global community. Our teaching and support staff are of the highest calibre and work hard to provide all students with the qualifications, values and skills they need to become confident, independent learners able to cope with life both now and in the future. Our high expectations include the excellent standards of behaviour crucial to academic success. Learning is at the heart of everything we do and, for effective learning to take place, there has to be high standards of behaviour. This is something on which we insist, both in and out of school, whilst working within the kind, supportive and respectful ethos that is the Enfield County of today.
Enfield County School is a lively and stimulating community with a strong sense of shared purpose. Our Learning
Community Two sites, one school. Enfield County School has two main sites. Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9) is based in Rosemary Avenue; our second site is located a mile away at Holly Walk in Enfield’s conservation area and is home to Key Stage 4 (Years 10–11) and Post-16. Attractive, spacious grounds and a blend of Edwardian, post-war and newer buildings combine to create a positive environment for all who study and work with us. We are extremely proud of our success as an inclusive, multi-cultural, non-selective girls’ comprehensive that uniquely offers exciting educational opportunities for students from more than 60 primary schools right across the London Borough of Enfield. Our status as a specialist Language College opens up even more exciting possibilities, with dedicated Modern Foreign Language facilities on both sites.

Learning
Through Challenge, Support & Encouragement We believe that it’s essential to offer a broad and balanced curriculum that keeps open as many options as possible for our students to continue their education at Key Stage 4 and Post 16. Throughout all subject areas we interest and motivate students by using innovative teaching and learning techniques including exciting technology and mobile technology to which everyone has access. With the exception of setting in Mathematics from Year 8 onwards, we teach balanced groups. It is an inclusive approach that fosters effective, personalised learning and has led to excellent examination results. Our Able, Gifted and Talented Policy ensures challenge and extension for all of our students. At Enfield County we also place special emphasis on maintaining and developing an excellent pastoral support system. Our teaching and non teaching Heads of Year work closely with other pastoral staff that include Learning Mentors, Educational Support Staff, Personal Social Health and Citizenship Education and Able, Gifted and Talented Co-ordinators, as well as a qualified Art Therapist. Our commitment to the Every Child Achieves agenda extends right across our community. We also make it a priority to encourage and celebrate achievement in all its forms – whether it’s through our popular merit marks and badges, postcards home and achievement certificates as well as annual celebrations and prizegivings. Learning
Through High Quality Lessons We believe that the curriculum offered to students should be taught by subject specialists in dedicated teaching areas. Our commitment to learning extends to staff as well as students; we want everyone in our school to enjoy and value learning. We believe that the acquisition of language skills opens doors to new cultures, educational and career opportunities in an increasingly globalised world. Our specialist Language College status was initially awarded in 2005, with re-designation in 2009. All of our students enjoy access to ‘state of the art’ resources to study at least two languages in Key Stage 3 and at least one in Key Stage 4. Taught in dedicated language teaching areas, modern languages are brought to life using a wide range of ICT equipment, as well as through visits both in the UK and overseas.

Learning
Beyond the Curriculum Offering a first class education involves far more than the effective delivery of the academic curriculum. It’s also about enabling students to make the most of their time at school to develop new skills and confidence through out-of-class activities. Our highly acclaimed Virtual Learning Environment enables our students to access learning opportunities from home. In addition, our students have access to a wide range of music, drama and sport through lunchtime and after-school workshops, as well as The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, World Challenge and participation in charity work. A programme of residential visits and activities at home and abroad enables students to benefit from new experiences in stimulating environments.

Learning
At Post 16 Our purpose-built Post 16 accommodation at Holly Walk is comfortable and well-equipped for A Level and other level 3 study. The vast majority of our Post 16 students continue into Higher Education. We collaborate closely with several local schools to offer wide curriculum choice for our Post 16 students. We welcome students from our partner schools wishing to take advantage of our specialist foreign language courses as well as other subjects. There are also opportunities for our students to access a range of A Level and vocational courses at our partner schools. In order to broaden the Post 16 experience, we encourage all our students to take part in a creative and motivating enrichment programme. We also expect them to play an active role within the wider school community.

Learning
In Partnership The Enfield County School community naturally extends well beyond our sister Lower and Upper School sites. We work closely with all parents and carers to build positive relationships between home and school. Our vibrant and successful Parent Teacher Association the ‘Friends of Enfield County’ offers invaluable financial and practical support through its calendar of fundraising and other events. Students at both sites benefit from the extensive and harmonious relationship the school has with our local community. Work experience placements, specialist business inputs to the curriculum and visits are some examples of how the local community and the school work together.
