A WARM WELCOME TO HIGHBURY FIELDS SCHOOL

Highbury Fields School is a small 11-18 Girls’ School which is unique. At Highbury Fields every child is truly known and recognised as an individual. Ours is a culturally rich environment within which every girl succeeds. Highbury Fields’ students are highly aspirational and have positive attitudes to their learning and attainment. These qualities, in combination with the school’s strong emphasis on academic progress, have led to impressive examination results at GCSE and A level. Students also excel in Sports, Music and the Arts and develop as well rounded and confident young women. We recognise that making the transition between primary and secondary school can be an anxious time for students and their parents. At Highbury Fields we invest in this process and, as a result, build good relationships with families. Your daughter’s education is a precious thing which is enhanced by good partnerships between school and home. I look forward to meeting you and beginning the first stages of that partnership.

“It’s the kind of buzz you get every time you come in here. It’s the dynamic atmosphere you get every day. That is my favourite thing about coming to school.” HIGHBURY FIELDS’ STUDENT

HIGH EXPECTATIONS, INSPIRED TEACHING AND MOTIVATED STUDENTS

“The high levels of tolerance and respect that students show each other and staff are an exemplary feature of the school.” OFSTED REPORT 2012

At Highbury Fields School every student is challenged and supported to achieve her very best. We aim high, with the highest aspirations for students. Students work hard and are exceptionally well focused in their learning. The school’s highly supportive environment enables students to flourish and make excellent progress. Examination results have improved rapidly and are set to continue to improve even further because students and staff strive for excellence. Our climate of high expectations and aspirations complements the nurturing and respectful ethos of the school. Strong relationships between students and staff are valued features of the school.

UNDERSTOOD, KNOWN, NURTURED, SAFE AND HAPPY

Students regularly tell us that they feel safe in school and that there is little bullying. Just as importantly, parents tell us that their daughters are very happy in school. Behaviour is excellent and visitors always comment on the calm and purposeful atmosphere that pervades the school. There are rules, but these alone have not created our culture. Our girls are supportive of each other and have positive relationships across different year groups. They share with staff a drive to ensure that every student realises her potential, whatever that might be. Care, guidance and support are great strengths of the school so that when a student does meet a problem she knows that there is always someone to help. Within this safe climate girls feel able to take risks with their learning, be ambitious and reach out to exceed their potential.

“From year 11 to year 7 we are all one big family. Obviously education is the glue that holds us together. I would say be excited and be prepared to work hard.” HIGHBURY FIELDS’ STUDENT

Highbury Fields has a long history of preparing young women to step out onto the national and international stage. The school builds character and spirit through the unique combination of challenge and support. Girls are expected to take the lead in their learning and develop excellent skills in collaboration and team work. Our purposeful and academic school climate supports the high levels of focus common to lessons at Highbury Fields School.

EDUCATING GIRLS AND YOUNG WOMEN

The Highbury Fields School Community believes in the education of girls within a girls only school environment. Within our single gender environment girls grow and develop with significant levels of independence. Girls take the centre of the stage in all things and expect that this will be their natural place in the future. We are committed to providing a high quality education for girls.

DIVERSE CULTURES FORMING ONE AMBITIOUS COMMUNITY

All staff and students value and celebrate the richness of our cultural diversity. Every student has a part to play in creating and maintaining the vibrant life of the school. We see this in the curriculum enrichment programme where students have opportunities to shine and have fun learning outside the classroom. Good examples of this are the year 7 outdoor activities trip, the year 8 sustainable fashion show and the numerous concerts and performances through the year. As students move through the school the formal curriculum is increasingly tailored to the needs of individual students. This contributes to the high levels of engagement within lessons. Teachers plan to differentiate activities so that every student makes progress to her next level of learning.

“A strong commitment to promoting equality and tackling discrimination is at the heart of the school’s work. As a result, the school is a harmonious environment where students from a very wide range of religious, ethnic and cultural backgrounds work together and respect each other.” OFSTED REPORT 2012

www.highburyfields.islington.sch.uk

The academic emphasis of the school continues into the sixth form curriculum with pass rates well above national averages for AS and A2 courses. Because teachers have experience of teaching A level they know what lies beyond A* at GCSE and this contributes to the high academic standards across the school. Highbury Fields School is part of the Outstanding IC6 Consortium partnership with Highbury Grove School, Central Foundation School and St Aloysius’ College. Just as we take great care over the transition at age 11 so do we work hard to prepare students for transition into the sixth form and beyond. The school’s values of challenge and support underpin the way students are prepared for sixth form studies and then on to Higher Education.

“Students value the high quality support they receive from teachers and the additional study and revision clubs provided for them.” OFSTED REPORT 2012
