Support for each other Form Tutors are extremely important in developing positive relationships with their students. Our community is both caring and supportive, and everyone is treated with respect. Our students know that care and support is always available. We foster students’ self-esteem and self-confidence, ensuring that we have absolute equality of opportunity. Students have the best possible chance of a mature, informed and happy adulthood. High-quality pastoral care is an essential part of our ethos. Pastoral care begins before Year 7 children even arrive, with our students and staff providing transitional support. Form Tutors, assisted by Heads of Year, support students’ academic progress and wellbeing. Every student receives individual support and guidance. Excellent attendance, punctuality and effective personal organisation are key ingredients to high levels of success and personal fulfilment. In doing this we lay the foundations for future success.

Our Careers Education and Guidance programme ensures that all students are given the skills, knowledge and information necessary to make informed choices about their future pathways. Through citizenship studies, our young people explore a range of topics, developing the confidence to make decisions that will have a positive impact on their lives.

Our active School Council and Student Voice aims to work for the benefit of the whole school community. This gives students a constructive way to inform school improvement. Opportunities of leadership include raising money for charities and undertaking local community work.

“ There are many reasons why I love Orleans Park. One is the extra-curricular activities available, including almost everything! I also love the way we learn in lessons as its interactive and exciting. Another reason is the sense of community within the school. Sophie, Year 8

“ I have two sons at Orleans Park and both have thrived since joining the school. They have embraced the many opportunities they have been given, not only academic but also artistic and sporting. Opportunity to Succeed All students are expected to work hard and do their very best. Being active learners make lessons a fun and rewarding experience.

At Orleans Park we provide students with the opportunities to succeed in the classroom, on the sports field, as well as in music and the arts.

Parents are kept up to date with their children’s progress, that is frequently monitored, and provided with information that enables them to support their children’s learning.

One of the greatest strengths of Orleans Park is our ability to get the best out of every student. Where appropriate, we will adapt and personalise a student’s programme of study to meet their learning needs. To be successful at school children need to be happy. Children thrive in a secure but challenging setting where they are treated with care and respect. We provide many opportunities for personal development and for students to take responsibility.

Partnership with Parents We work in very close partnership with parents/carers, and appreciate the encouragement and support we receive from them.

Student Planners, our website and the school’s weekly Newsletter are important channels of communication between the school and the home. Parents also receive three reports each year that outline both attainment and progress. There is also a Parents’ Consultation Meeting each year when parents can discuss their child’s progress with individual subject teachers. All parents are automatically members of the Orleans Park School Association. They aim to develop more extended relationships between staff and parents, to encourage activities which support the school and advance the education of our students, and to offer extra financial support to the school.

Beyond the Classroom We offer an extensive range of extra-curricular activities designed to challenge and engage students outside of their academic learning. abilities and interests. We run a wide range of sports clubs at lunch time and after school. We frequently take our thriving sports teams to other London schools for competitive fixtures. Many of our students compete at county-level and beyond, and the school is rightly proud of its long tradition of sporting success and excellence. The Soul Band, Jazz Band, instrumental ensembles and vocal groups all perform at school concerts and in local events. We hold an annual showcase of GCSE Drama performances as well as other small and large scale productions. Orleans Park has a strong sporting tradition. We encourage sporting excellence and active participation with opportunities for a full range of

Many other departments run after school clubs and activities, such as: Art, Chess, Design and Technology, History, Languages (including a course in Mandarin), and Science, all featuring strongly. All students are invited to take part in a residential trip during Years 7, 8, and 9, which take place over three days. Over the course of the three trips students cover survival

tactics on the coast, in the woods, and on the mountains. We also offer a range of subject residential trips with History, Geography and Language trips taking place in this country and abroad. In addition, there are residential sporting trips, including the very popular annual ski trip. Activities, such as The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, help students develop self-confidence, resilience and leadership skills. We offer a programme of ‘Pledges’ to all students in the school. These are a range of enriching experiences (such as a visit to a professional sporting event or a residential trip) that we ‘pledge’ to offer all students in order to broaden their understanding of the world around them. In return the students ‘pledge’ to take part in them.
