OUTSTANDING TEACHING Leads to Outstanding Learning
Our students learn in a culture of high academic expectation, both theirs and ours. Students are regularly expected to go beyond the limits of their curriculum to explore areas of personal interest and challenge with outstanding teaching being the norm, and subject specialists given the freedom to deliver and inspire their students.
“ Teachers have superb subject knowledge and often use this to make lessons intellectually challenging and stimulating.” Ofsted 2014

Our Curriculum
and Beyond “ The curriculum includes outstanding enrichment activities which broaden students’ horizons, giving them useful skills for their future lives and encourage volunteering.” Ofsted 2014
A core curriculum, rigorous in its academic emphasis and broad in its focus, is provided for all girls. In Years 7, 8 and 9, in addition to the ‘traditional’ subjects, all girls receive lessons in Computing and STEM, providing them with practical opportunities to explore the links between science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and through this promoting STEM careers.

Extending
learning opportunities In Years 10 – 13 we offer a range of GCSE, A levels and Cambridge Pre-U courses. At A level all students are expected to study four courses in Year 12, and students are encouraged to undertake an Extended Project Qualification wherever possible. All students in each year group follow an enrichment programme consisting of a broad range of activities to prepare them to be successful citizens, for their higher education and for successful lives beyond.

“ Students mature into thoughtful young adults with the confidence to face whatever challenges they meet in their futures.” Ofsted 2014
We have a strong tradition of engagement with the arts recognising the importance of art to the personal wellbeing and cultural enfranchisement of all. Building on ten years’ recognition through the Artsmark Gold Award, supported by our specialism in music, we promote expressions of creativity in all areas of the curriculum and encourage extra-curricular participation in the arts for all students, with a particular focus on fostering selfconfidence and stimulating imagination and integrative thinking. After-school clubs, adventure holidays, educational visits, drama and dance clubs, musical tuition and groups, learning outside the classroom, the school’s own radio station… the list of extra-curricular opportunities is endless.

We work within the Kent and Medway Teaching Schools Network, promoting the best learning experiences for staff and students in the whole community with the aim of raising the aspirations of all children and ensuring successful transition.

At Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School, we aim to light the fire of imagination and creativity. Our school motto “Meliora Sequamur” (let’s aim for the best) underlines the school’s continued commitment to excellence. We aim to continue our tradition of our students achieving high academic distinction, while at the same time learning civilized and humane values and developing the personality and character to go on to play a leading role in the wider world. We are immensely proud of all the young people in our care and all they achieve in our school and throughout their lives.
