APPLICATION PROCESS AND COURSE OFFER The application process Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School has a mixed Sixth Form and we accept a maximum of 200 students in Year 12. Once you have applied to Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School via UCAS Progress, we make sure that you choose the course that is right for you. You will:
Have a consultation with a senior member of staff
Attend an Induction Programme
Have the opportunity to talk to students and staff about your preferred options

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Entry into Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar Sixth Form You will need at least five subjects at grade A* - B at GCSE and English and Mathematics at grade 9 - 6
Entry on to your chosen courses
Students usually achieve an A or A* grade or a grade 8 or 9 in the subject that they decide to study at A Level
The minimum entry criteria varies depending on the subject that students wish to study

POSITIONS OF RESPONSIBILITY The Sixth Form Student Leadership Team Students’ personal development is greatly enhanced by the cultivation of interests beyond the academic. The Sixth Form Student Leadership Team help to lead and manage events, develop the community and act as a mouthpiece for the school at large. Students in Year 12 can take on the role of ‘’Senior Prefect’’ and ‘’Form Guardian’’ and students in Year 13 can apply for the role of Sports Captain, Dance Captain, Music Captain, House Captain and Head Girl and Head Boy.
Head Girl and Head Boy These students help to lead and manage the students in Years 7 – 11 and act as the school’s ambassadors at key events.
House Captains These students help to lead and manage whole school house events and oversee the school’s charity work.
Sports, Dance, Music Captains Students lead and manage whole school events in these fields.
Senior Prefects These students help to oversee the day to day running of the school and act as the front of house team at whole school events.
Form Guardians These students support and nurture students in Year 7. Assisting departments, mentoring younger students and engaging in voluntary work are all activities that are important in the Sixth Form.

SPECIALISED CAREERS ADVICE Planning for your Future The Careers Department has held the prestigious Investors in Careers quality award for many years. Led by a full time, highly experienced careers professional, a comprehensive programme of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) is provided to all students throughout their time at Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar Sixth Form and beyond. Just a few of the events that take place every year include:

TOP FLIGHT PROGRAMME Top Flight Top Flight is our very successful specialist support programme for students who wish to apply for highly competitive courses including Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry and Law and highly competitive universities including Oxford and Cambridge. We provide:

CLUBS AND SOCIETIES Clubs and societies flourish at Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar. The Orchard project, now in its third year, has received significant funding from the Royal Society and has completed highly praised research into biodiversity. The majority of our societies are student led, attracting leading specialists in their field. Biosciences for example have welcomed experts ranging from pharmaceutical to neurosurgery. The following clubs and societies (although by no means an exhaustive list) represent the breadth of opportunities available within and beyond the curriculum.

ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES
Our Enrichment Programme provides our students with the opportunity to: Choose from a wide variety of courses from which to construct their own bespoke programme Organise their own work experience or volunteering as part of a personal Enrichment option Take the initiative and undertake activities which are of direct value to them and their future
Outcomes Our Enrichment programme ensures that our students can: Secure a recognised qualification in anything from First Aid to an Arts Award Work with a variety of outside agencies, such as Canterbury City Council or Age UK Support the wider community on projects such as the Westgate Parks Physic Garden Project
Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award All Year 12 students have the opportunity to travel to Plas Y Brenin, in Wales, for a practice expedition, completing their D of E Gold Award the following summer. Upon completion, students attend a presentation held at a Royal Palace to receive their Award from Prince Phillip or Prince Andrew.
Trips There are a number of trips that are offered to Year 12 students, to destinations including Greece, Italy and Amsterdam to name a few.
