Sixth Form Prospectus Realising the Potential in All

Welcome to

The Beaconsfield School

Caroline Legg Headteacher

It is our pleasure to welcome you to The Beaconsfield School. Our Sixth Form provision is smaller than average which means we offer excellent pastoral care, smaller class sizes and the staff really know each student. Everything we do here is underpinned by our five key values of Respect, Hardwork, Responsibility, Community and Empathy. We expect TBS Sixth Form Students to embody these values during their time with us and beyond. Our vibrant Sixth Form offers a range of academic, vocational and enrichment opportunities that enable our students to leave us as well-rounded individuals who have exciting opportunities ahead of them.

Future Leaders “We are really proud to be the Student Leaders and take our responsibilities very seriously.” “As a team, we listen to the student body and liaise with staff to enhance the overall experience. We have excellent communication throughout the school, and this means we can listen to the needs of students as well as receive help and support when we need it. There are numerous opportunities to get involved in student leadership and take an active role in our community.” – Student Head Team

A New Space In September 2022 we opened a brand-new area for our Sixth Form to study in as well as use in their breaks. The space is an excellent environment for our students to self-study and to gain a sense of independence.

A Range

of Courses We offer a variety of Level 3 courses and students are expected to study three of these which can be selected from the A Level, BTEC and Applied qualification options. To study A Levels students must achieve 5 grade 9-5s in their GCSEs and for BTEC courses students are expected to have achieved 5 grade 9-4s in their GCSEs. Each subject has specific entry requirements, details can be found on the school website.

“I chose just to study vocational qualifications. The coursework keeps me really focused on my learning and I prefer having a stronger emphasis on coursework than exams.” TBS Student

Extended Project Qualification Students have the opportunity to opt into this extra qualification which demonstrates research and independent learning skills, and it is looked upon favourably by universities.

Business, Finance and Enterprise Students have the opportunity at the start of Year 12 to put themselves forward for the LIBF qualification in Finance.

“After completing Sixth Form I intend to go to university and complete a degree in Fashion; my A Level courses will facilitate this. I’ve really enjoyed the content of all my courses, and I’m really pleased I selected them.”

The Super

Curriculum We prioritise supercurricular activities to ensure students leave us with both excellent qualifications and the skills to keep learning. In addition to students completing their three Level 3 courses, they also complete sessions on PSHE topics and have enrichment. From learning how to successfully debate, to completing online MOOCS and practicing mindfulness techniques, the super curriculum supports the development of a wellrounded student. We also require Year 12s to complete in school community service and many offer to support teachers in lessons. This develops a multitude of skills.

Careers Related Learning There are numerous opportunities planned into the two years to ensure every student makes good decisions about their next steps. In addition to class-based sessions and external speakers, all students complete mock interviews with a member of industry and complete work experience outside of school.

UCAS

Ofsted 2019

Our UCAS provision enables students to be carefully guided through the process of applying to university. Whilst the vast majority of students apply within the UK, some do opt to study abroad, and we are on hand with expert advice. 98% of students who applied to university from the class of 2022 gained a place at their first or second choice.

Student Support We are fully committed to supporting and enhancing the wellbeing and happiness of our students. The Sixth Form Team make time for our students and make them feel valued.

Realising

Potential We are unashamedly ambitious for our students. The majority of our students chose to apply to university, and we have had some real successes with students being offered places at a range of excellent universities. Many of our students also take up excellent opportunities in industry with students gaining opportunities in the City of London and abroad. Students are also supported to make applications to Degree Apprenticeships.
