This activity is inspired by the book ‘Busy Beaks’ by Sarah Allen.

1. Use tacky glue to glue your papier mache egg together. You may like to glue multiple to create different eggs! Allow to dry.

4. For a Magpie egg, paint a wooden egg white. Allow to dry.

7. Cassowaries have shiny eggs, so use CleverPatch™ Gloss Finish to give your egg a shiny top coat. Allow to dry. 2. Research native Australian bird eggs and look at images of the colours and patterns found on the eggs. Follow our steps or paint your eggs similar colours to the ones you have researched.

5. Use a small fine tip brush to create small brown spots around the bottom and middle of the egg. Allow to dry.

8. For an Emu egg, mix equal parts of light blue and dark green paint together and paint a papier mache egg. Allow to dry. 3. For a Willie Wagtail egg, mix equal parts white and brown paint and paint a wooden egg. Once dry, create the pattern found on a Willie Wagtail’s egg using a small bristled brush and brown paint. Allow to dry.

6. For a Cassowary egg, paint a papier mache egg from step 1 dark green. Allow to dry.

9. To create the speckles, mix equal parts of white and light blue paint together. Use a fan brush to gently tap the paint onto the egg to create a speckled effect. Research other native Australian Birds to create more eggs!
