Head into space like Una with your very own Astronaut Jet Pack and Helmet!

1. Find two clean recycled bottles that are the same size. Ours measure 31cm tall. Paint the bottles using Silver CleverPatch™ Acrylic Paint. Allow to dry. 2. Take a piece each of red, orange and yellow tissue paper. Cut a zig-zag edge along each sheet. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. Make the yellow tissue paper the shortest and the orange tissue paper the tallest. Repeat a second time so you have 2 of each colour. These will be used to make the flames on your Jet Pack.

3. Wrap the orange tissue paper at the end of your recycled bottle and use sticky tape to hold in place. Wrap the red on top of the orange and then the yellow last. Use sticky tape to hold it all in place. Repeat this step on the second bottle with the remaining tissue paper. 4. Use duct tape over the end of each bottle to cover where the tissue paper joins. Tape the two bottles together to assemble the Jet Pack as shown above. 5. Cut 2 pieces of ribbon that measure at least 1m long each. Attach 1 piece of ribbon to each of the bottles using duct tape as shown. Place the Jet Pack against your back and wrap the ribbon around your arms and tie at the front to secure.

3...2...1...BLAST OFF!

6. To create your helmet, blow up a balloon 10% bigger than the size you want your helmet to be. Use a marker to sketch out an opening and also where the bottom of your helmet will be. These lines will be used as a guide when applying the Mod-Rock.

7. Cut a variety of pieces of Mod-Rock for your helmet. The amount of Mod-Rock you will use will depend on how big, small or thick you make your helmet. You will need a bowl of warm water as well. 8. Place the balloon from step 6 into a bowl or something that will help it stay upright. Wet your pieces of Mod-Rock in a bowl of warm water. Squeeze out any excess water and then drape over the balloon. The aim is to join the plaster sheets over and around the balloon to create your helmet. Be sure to not place Mod-Rock over your face and neck openings. Add a couple of layers until you are happy with the shape. Allow the Mod-Rock to dry completely, for at least 24 hours.

9. Pop the balloon whilst it is still inside the helmet and carefully peel it out. Decorate your Astronaut Helmet using CleverPatch™ Acrylic paints. Allow to dry. 10. Use the template from page 12 to create a microphone for inside your helmet. Trace the template onto a piece of black cardboard and cut out using scissors. Glue or tape the microphone to the inside of your helmet where your mouth will be. Your Astronaut Helmet and Jet Pack are now ready for take off! Clever Tip: if you find it difficult to place the helmet onto your head, use scissors to cut a 5cm slit up the back of the helmet.
