Children are estranged from the core of Middletown, Ohio. This project attracts all demographics and complements neighboring establishments with a rec center, workshops, apartments, and daycare services. If the adult world can safely coexist with the world of children all in one place, downtown will be a more attractive place to all residents.

This five-day charrette was a team project for students from three levels of graduate studio. The program calls for the former trolley level of the Detroit-Superior bridge to be redesigned for pedestrians. This design uses the existing arch structure to support a suspended walkway away from the enclosed bridge high above the river.

The center provides support for the success of local families, youth, and seniors, along with a defining landmark for the neighborhood. The south gymnasium roof projects forcefully towards the high-traffic parkway. while the north end is closer to the scale of surrounding homes. Connecting the two is the transparant space that promotes mixing of all community members.

this boutique hotel with 25 rooms is a model of sustainability. All rooms are naturally ventilated by a thermal chimney that draws air the circulation space on the south side. The building maintains a minimal site footprint, and preserves the 1880s house.
