Dubrovnik Riviera When we think Croatia, Dubrovnik immediately springs to mind. That iconic image of the magnificent Old Town with its russet red roofs, ochre coloured fortified walls and jumble of ancient stone houses tumbling into the Adriatic is enough to send us packing – our travel bags! Dubrovnik is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Old Town is so perfectly preserved that it deserves its status and more. Cocooned within thick stone walls, built to protect the city from marauders, the Old Town has cobble stoned streets, narrow alleys, meandering streets and traditional houses which are steeped in history. The harbour area is bustling with open air cafes and restaurants and you can take a boat trip from here to the little resort of Cavtat. Outside the Old Town in the Babin Kuk area, the resort of Lapad is more like a suburb of Dubrovnik where many hotels are built on the water’s edge. This entire little peninsula is clothed in a gentle green carpet of pine forest and towering cypress trees, so nature is never far away. Cleaner than clean translucent waters of the Adriatic lick the pebbled shoreline, casting turquoise shadows. The resort of Cavtat is very pretty and picturesque. Built around a sheltered cove with a dramatic backdrop of pine scented woods, the waterfront in Cavtat is lined with open air cafes and restaurants serving delicious local specialities. Without a heavy tourist footfall, Mlini remains a bastion of tradition and tranquillity. A Greek island that is a sight for sore eyes! Corfu is pretty, picturesque and very green.
