Algebra - The Basics
Exploring Fractions
Linear Functions: An Introduction
This program explains the basic concepts of algebra, including number patterns, pronumerals, algebraic expressions, order of operations, and expanding and simplifying. Asia’s natural landscapes and cityscapes are used to bring these abstract concepts to life.
In this program, students learn about the parts of a fraction (numerator and denominator), types of fractions (equivalent, proper, improper and mixed numerals), and adding and subtracting fractions.
This Australian made, curriculum-fit program is an excellent introduction to linear functions. Students, with the aid of “Sharpy the Pencil”, learn to plot and sketch graphs from linear equations, as well as deriving linear equations from existing graphs.

Numbers and Algebra Series
The program covers similar triangles; tangent, sine and cosine of an angle; scientific calculator use; and equation manipulation in real-life applications.
This program introduces the key concepts in exponents and factors. It examines defining exponents as multiples of the base number; expressing negative exponents in positive form using the base’s reciprocal; multiplying and dividing exponential numbers; and expressing large and small numbers in scientific notation.

Metric Units - Length, Mass and Capacity
This program explains the metric units used to measure length, mass and capacity. We start at the beach and measure the length of its features. Next, we move to the kitchen to learn to use a centimetre ruler, before weighing household items. We measure capacity to make a date-and-walnut loaf.
