Difficulty event (Bouldering + Top-rope climbing) General rules
You must be born on or after 1 Jan 2000 to participate in the competition. There are no restrictions to the gender mix for each team. There are no restrictions to the number of teams that each school/organisation can send Participants can only join one team competing in the Difficulty event Participants can join more than one event in the Rockids Challenge i.e. both Difficulty & Speed categories. Prizes will be awarded to the best 3 teams.
Conduct and Scoring The Difficulty event comprises of 2 segments: Bouldering and Top-rope Climbing. The team will start on the Bouldering segment first, rest for a specified duration, then proceed to the Toprope Climbing segment. The time allocated for each segment will be announced on the competition day. Bouldering segment 1. There will be boulder problems which the team will attempt to finish. Each team member have unlimited tries for the boulder problems. 2. On each boulder problem, there will be climbing holds demarcated as the START hold, the BONUS hold and the END hold. 3. To start the boulder problem, the climber needs to have both hands on the START hold and have both legs off the ground before moving for the next hold. Failure to do so will result in the climber having to dismount the problem and start again. 4. The BONUS is awarded if the climber holds the BONUS hold securely. 5. The TOP is secured if the climber manages to hold the END hold with 2 hands for at least 2 seconds. 6. Each hold is allocated a point. The number of points for each boulder problem awarded for each member is determined by the progress of the climber on the boulder problem. The teams will be ranked according to the following order for the bouldering segment: the total number of TOPS, total number of attempts to TOP, total number of BONUSES and total number of attempts to BONUS by all team members. In the event of a tie, the total number of points awarded for the Bouldering segment will be used to differentiate the teams. The team with the higher number of points will have a higher ranking. Top-rope climbing 1. There will be climbing routes set up on a top-rope system on the top-rope climbing wall.

2. The last climbing hold of the route(s) will be labelled as the END hold. A TOP is awarded to the climber if he/she completes the route i.e. holds the END hold securely with both hands. 3. Each team member will attempt to complete the climbing route within the allocated duration. 4. The climber will be lowered immediately if he/she falls before completing the route. 5. Each climbing hold of the route will be allocated a point. The climber is awarded a point if he/she holds the climbing hold securely. 6. The total number of points awarded to the climber is based on the number of climbing holds secured during the climb. The teams will be ranked according to the following order for the Top-Rope segment: the total number of TOPs awarded to the team followed by the total number of points awarded for all team members. In the event of a tie, the teams will share the same ranking.
Results tabulation Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 teams. The final result for the Difficulty event will be calculated based on the following score: Ranking points for Bouldering segment + ranking points for Top-rope Climbing segment Ranking points are determined as such:

Example: Team A is ranked 4th in the Bouldering segment and 20th in the Top-rope segment. Team A’s final score is 134 points (91 + 43). In the event of a tie for either first, second or third place, the ranking for the Boulder segment, followed by the Top-rope segment, will be used to differentiate the teams. The team with the higher ranking wins.

Appeal In the event of any dispute in the conduct of the competition or judging of the climbs that may have affected the outcome of the competition, a written appeal of no more than 100 words and an appeal fee of SGD50 must be submitted to the Chief Judge no more than 15 minutes after the participant has completed both the bouldering and top-rope climbing segments. The Chief Judge will conduct an investigation to verify the validity of the appeal. If the appeal is valid, the appeal fee will be refunded.
Award ceremony All team members of the best 3 teams must be present at the award ceremony.
The organiser reserves the right to amend the rules and regulations without prior notice.
