Speed climbing event General rules
You must be born on or after 1 Jan 2000 to participate in the competition. There are no restrictions to the gender mix for each team. There are no restrictions to the number of teams that each school/organisation can send. Each team must have 3 climbers. Each participant can only join one team competing in the Speed event. Participants can join more than one event in the Rockids Challenge i.e. both Difficulty & Speed categories. Prizes will be awarded to the best 3 teams.
Conduct and Scoring There will be a demonstration of the speed climbing route before the first team climbs. Once the first team has climbed, there will be no subsequent demonstrations. There will be no isolation for the event.
Conduct 1. The speed climbing route will be set up on a top-rope system. 2. The team must be ready at the call zone when they are called. 3. The team must have worn their own or Climb Asia’s harnesses when they are called to the wall to start their climb. 4. The climber will assume a starting position with at least one hand on the demarcated starting hold and at least one foot on the ground. At the command “Ready, attention, go”, the climber will start the route. The timing device will be initiated on the word “go”. 5. If the climber commits a false start, he/she will have to restart the route. A false start is defined as when both the climber’s feet are lifted off the ground before the word “go”. 6. At the top of the route, the climber will stop the timing device by striking the button with his/her hand(s). A TOP is awarded to the team if the climber manages to stop the timing device. 7. If the climber commits 3 false starts, he/she will not be allowed to proceed on the climb. 8. If the climber falls on the route or commits 3 false starts, the time taken for that climber to complete the route will be fixed at 90.00 seconds. 9. The score for the team is the time taken for all 3 team members to complete the route. E.g. Climber 1 took 20.94 seconds, Climber 2 committed 3 false starts, Climber 3 fell during his attempt. The score for the team is 200.94 seconds (20.94 seconds + 90.00 seconds + 90.00 seconds). The team is awarded one TOP. 10. The changeover time, i.e. the time taken to switch climbers on the top-rope climbing system, will not be taken into account for the total score for the team.

11. The top, bottom and sides of the climbing wall(s) are out of bounds unless otherwise indicated. Tnut holes on the walls are also out of bounds i.e. they cannot be used to assist the climber in any manner during the climb. The shorter the total time taken, the higher the ranking. In the event of a tie, the number of TOPs, followed by the time of the fastest climber, will be used to differentiate the teams. The best 4 teams will proceed to the semi-finals.
Semi-finals The competition format will be identical to that of the qualifying round. The 3rd best team will compete against the 2nd best team. The 4th best team will compete against the best team. The winners of their respective semi-finals round will move on to the finals round. In each semifinals, both teams will start the climb at the same time on 2 separate lanes. The conduct of the semi-finals will be identical to that of the qualifying round.
3rd & 4th Playoff The losing teams in the semi-finals will compete for 3rd place in the 3rd & 4th playoff. The competition format will be identical to that of the qualifying round. If the results for both teams are identical, the qualifying results will be used to break the tie. The team with the shorter time wins. The conduct of this playoff is the same as that of the semi-finals.
Finals The competition format will be identical to that of the qualifying round. The team with the fastest time wins. If the results for both teams are identical, the qualifying results will be used to break the tie. The team with the shorter time wins. The conduct of the finals is the same as that of the semi-finals.
