CAFE VAN CLEEF

Uptown’s resident cocktail bar and bocce ball court, Make Westing serves up great drinks in a well-designed but undeniably warm and friendly atmosphere. They also offer snacks like local Dungeness crab dip, roasted bone marrow, and an awesome braised oxtail sandwich.

This beloved local venue and bar has some of the strangest decor you will ever see, with every inch of wall space crowded with art, knicknacks, and plants. They have a well-stocked bar with plenty of options, but they are best known for their greyhound with freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice.

CLIMB LOVES

Here are a few of our favorite things that we know you would enjoy.

SLEEP

ESCAPE

E AT

BOOT AND SHOE SERVICE always seems to be packed with people, which is a testament to the quality of their consistently delicious thin-crust pizzas. Most ingredients are seasonal, and they are complemented nicely by a surprisingly substantial cocktail menu.

HOTEL ZELOS is right in the thick of San Francisco’s bustling shopping district, and offers a calm, stylized respite from the crowds outside. The decor is subdued but hip, and the in-house bar, Dirty Habit, is one of the best in the neighborhood. The hotel even boasts rooftop firepits with a fantastic view of downtown.

MONTREAL has an incredible range of activities to offer visitors, from its eclectic food to the gorgeous homes in Plateau Mont-Royal. You can catch a nice view of the city from the top of Mont-Royal, or go restaurant hopping in the Mile End district, but our favorite activity is paying a visit to the breathtaking Basilique Notre-Dame in Old Montreal.

WATCH

READ COVET

HILLBILLY ELEGY is a fascinating look at what the writer calls “Appalachian values” and the poverty and struggle that characterize rust belt America. Vance uses his upbringing to analyze the underlying value systems and issues that dominate the white working-class, questioning the roots of misfortune and poverty.

WESTWORLD is based on a novel by Michael Crichton, and it depicts a futuristic “amusement park” populated by androids which wealthy humans visit for their amusement. Westworld deals with the complex morality around artificial intelligence and the role of technology in our lives, playing out these conflicts in the Western backdrop of Westworld and the sterile confines of the park’s operations center.
