GARAJE

SEXTANT COFFEE ROASTERS

An almost annoyingly popular Mexican bar, Garaje serves up delicious tacos, burgers, and beer to long lines of thirsty SOMA professionals, Giants fans, and anyone else tempted by the smell of perfectly grilled meats and french fries.

SOMA is full of great coffee, but Sextant has a unique approach that focuses on highlighting sweetness. Their roasting process brings out the unique flavor profiles of each bean. They import beans from around the world in a constantly-changing roatation, making this place worth multiple visits.

THE WILLOWS

At once a gallery, coffee bar, and lounge, 111 Minna is a major part of the revitalization of Second Street. The space is a hive of activity, hosting startup meetings by day and artsty parties by night. The large gallery space constantly features work from local photographers, painters, and sculptors.

The Willows is one of the more straightforward bars in an area that is primarily made up of clubs and mixology labratories. It has a long beer list and a reliably tasty menu of fried and grilled bar food. It is also very large, making it one of the few establishments in SOMA where space is not at a premium.

CLIMB LOVES

Here are a few of our favorite things that we know you would enjoy.

SLEEP

ESCAPE

QUIRK HOTEL is Richmond’s first boutique hotel. It is housed in a 1916 department store on West Broad Street, a recently revitalized area close to downtown and VCU. The lobby and rooms feature art from Richmond’s vibrant art scene, and much of the furniture is handcrafted from reclaimed wood and materials. The in-house restaurant, Maple + Pine, features food made from scratch, and the rooftop bar offers excellent views of the city.

RICHMOND has an incredible range of activities to offer visitors, from its eclectic food to the gorgeous homes in Plateau Mont-Royal. You can catch a nice view of the city from the top of Mont-Royal, or go restaurant hopping in the Mile End district, but our favorite activity is paying a visit to the breathtaking Basilique Notre-Dame in Old Montreal.

E AT

TOSCA is one of North Beach’s iconic establishments, famous for their brandy hot chocolates and opera-laden jukebox. It was recently restored by April Bloomfield, who reopened their disued kitchen and crafted a menu of classic San Francisco Italian food. The new ownership did a wonderful job keeping the interior and overall vibe of the place intact, making this a one of a kind dining experience.

UNDOING PROJECT is an account of the birth of behavioral economics, which upended the thenstandard assumption made by economists that humans will act rationally. Two psychologists took it upon themselves to trace the signs, thought-patterns, and attributes that lead or mislead humans into seeing a weakness as a strength, and vice versa.

ROGUE ONE prefaces the events of the original Star Wars trilogy, depicting the daring raid that exposed the Death Star’s weaknesses to the Rebel Alliance. Following in the footsteps of The Force Awakens, Rogue One fuses new characters and worlds with heavy-handed references to the original movies, which is a delight for any fan of the Star Wars series.

CORKCICLE WHISKEY WEDGE is a boon to all who enjoy their spirits chilled: a slow-melting cube that fits perfectly in a rocks glass and keeps your drink at prime sipping temperature. The obvious use-case is whiskey, but the wedge works just as well with a nice mescal, gin, or vodka.
