ZANTE PIZZA

EMMY’S SPAGHETTI SHACK

An unconventional but irresistable fusion of pizza and Indian food, Zante has been serving their unique pizza since the late 1980s. In a neighborhood subject to a huge amount of change, Zante has stayed remarkably consistent, a testament to the popularity and quality of their tikka masala-infused pizzas.

A neighborhood favorite since 2001, they recently occupied the space that held pupuseria El Zocalo. A subtly hip take on the Italian restaurant formula, Emmy’s features large portions of staples like spaghetti and meatballs, Caesar salad, and linguine with clams. It tends to get busy on most nights, but the well-stocked bar makes waiting for a table much easier.

THE LUCKY HORSESHOE

Holly Park is the primary dog park in Bernal Heights, being much easier to reach than the lofty peaks of Bernal Hill. The ideal neighborhood park, it features a modern playground, several barbecues, and, of course, a wonderful view south and east.

This dive-bar-slash-venue was once a popular blues club called Skip, but it saw a change of ownership and name in 2011. A local favorite, the dark exterior belies a welcoming, jolly atmosphere. Despite being on a steep slope, the strong drinks and live music attract a wide range of guests.

CLIMB LOVES

Here are a few of our favorite things that we know you would enjoy.

SLEEP

ESCAPE

E AT

PAPALOTE is famous for their incredible home-made salsas, but their brick and mortar locations are well worth a visit. Lighter than what you might expect from a San Francisco taqueria, they serve excellent burritos and tacos with consistently fresh, straightforward ingredients. They are also famous for their breakfast burrito, which we consider the best way to start a sleepy Sunday.

CAVALLO POINT LODGE is ideal for anyone visting the Bay Area. Situated close to the Golden Gate, the gorgeous Marin Headlands, and Sausalito, this converted Army post includes a spa, a restaurant, and numerous event spaces. It affords visitors equal opportunity to enjoy both the gorgeous nature and the many attractions offered by nearby San Francisco.

VANTAGE MAGAZINE / 18

GUERNEVILLE is one of the Bay Area’s most popular local vacation spots, this riverside town has plenty of housing, amenities, and other nearby natural attractions, including the famous Russian River. When you’re tired of all the swimming, boating, fishing, and tubing, you can pull up a stool at the Russian River Brewery in nearby Santa Rosa, recognized as one of the world’s best.

WATCH

READ COVET

COMMONWEALTH is an account of the complex relationship between two families, joined together by the marriage of two previously-divorced parents. Like many of Ann Patchett’s other novels, the directness and simplicity of the prose gives you a clear and direct window into the many personalities that make up the eight-member family.

JESSICA JONES is not for the faint of heart—this Netflixproduced show has plenty of gritty, real-life themes to counterbalance its more fantastical elements. The eponymous protagonist posesses super powers, but they aren’t enough to extricate her from her traumatic past, making this show feel wholly distinct from blockbusters like Iron Man.

VANTAGE MAGAZINE / 19

SNAPCHAT SPECTACLES are the next attempt to breathe some life into the once-hyped wearable technolgy sector. Snapchat’s app seems uniquely suited to wearables, and we are really excited to see whether these stylish glasses prove as popular as the app itself.
