SUCCULENCE
HOLY WATER
I’d like to think I have a green thumb. I’d like to think I do. Either way, when I walk into Succulence I am overcome with an insane desire to buy every plant, planter, and cool specialty item they have in stock! Doesn’t everyone want an oxygen-producing organism in their home? Every neighborhood needs a great plant store or nursery, and this one is certainly tops in my book.
The most exciting addition to the neighborhood has got to be Holy Water. Wait, there’s a hip bar in Bernal? The folks behind Churchill and Bloodhound have revamped Stray Bar into a cool, local watering hole. You know what they say...follow the mixology, follow the increasing real estate values!

SANDBOX BAKERY
HILLSIDE SUPPER CLUB
Sandbox Bakery is my favorite weakness in Bernal Heights. Stop by for organic, artisanal baked goods a la France with an Asian influence. Think flaky, buttery croissants and tofu or chicken rice burgers. Be warned. They sell out quickly, but that may be a good thing!
Bernal has not historically been known as a go-to brunch destination, but now that the Hillside Supper Club has emerged on the scene, I hereby declare their brunch to be destination-worthy. Located at Precita and Folsom at the corner of the beautiful Precita Park, it’s a short walk for folks on the North Slope, which is perfect since they offer bottomless mimosas and a full bar.
