For the past few years, I have been a consultant for Opal Orthodontics, a division of Ultradent Products, Inc. Ultradent is a privately owned dental company with a 30-year history of quality products, patient focus, and humanitarian efforts. It was founded by Dr. Dan Fischer, who remains its president and CEO.
It is a pleasure to work with Dr. Fischer, a great innovator and one of the most recognized figures in the dental world. Together, we hope to deepen Opal Orthodontics’ commitment to continuing education and develop quality, innovative orthodontic products that provide the best possible patient care.

The hook’s anatomical bending stop can be bent in the same place numerous times without breaking
Buccal Tubes
The Avex Suite features the industry’s first CNC precisionmachined buccal tubes. Because Avex buccal tubes are made from high-tensile stainless steel bar stock instead of powdered metal (used in MIM buccal tubes), they are the smallest, strongest, and lowest-profile tubes in the industry. Avex buccal tubes offer true torque in base, maximizing torque expression and minimizing occlusal interferences.
Special “cut outs” on the gingival and occlusal sides of the buccal tube simplify initial positioning on the molars
Computer-designed bonding pad shapes provide exceptional anatomical fit with molars.
All buccal tubes feature microetched, 80-gauge mesh pads, which provide optimal bond strength.
Funneled entrances allow insertion of the arch wire
easy
Color identification dots ensure accurate placement
A special “cut out” on the face of the buccal tube assists with final positioning
Low profile design enhances Second molar pads are patient comfort. available in regular and mini. Mini sizes are ideal for bonding on the mesial cusps of partially erupted teeth.

molar bands
Tempered to Perfection Clinically tested for ideal firmness, each Avex BX molar band receives optimum tempering to ensure ease of placement and proper fit. Avex BX molar bands are based on Dr. Richard McLaughlin’s unique in/out prescription and are part of the revolutionary Avex Suite—the industry’s first set of completely interchangeable metal and ceramic brackets.
High-quality mirror finish is more esthetic than the tarnished, dull look of competitive bands
Flat interproximal walls for reduced separation
Etched interior provides more surface area for better bonding and retention
Rounded occlusal and gingival edges decrease tissue irritation, improving patient comfort Optimum temper is not too soft and not too firm, so it improves band seating and fit
Laser etched numerical coding helps provide quick identification of band size and quadrant

molar bands
Avex BX Molar Bands and Buccal Tubes—The Perfect Pair Avex BX molar bands work with our weldable buccal tubes to create precise positioning according to Dr. Richard McLaughlin’s unique prescription. Highly sophisticated CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) milling, unparalleled by competitors, ensures that each band has exactly the same size and dimensions to maximize treatment efficiency and outcomes.
Avex BX buccal tubes feature: Universal in/out dimensions – The buccal tubes work interchangeably with the rest of the Avex Suite appliances, including its molar bands, stainless steel brackets, and ceramic brackets. A low profile – The lowest profile and most anatomically precise buccal tubes available, they minimize occlusal interference, which can cause debonding and discomfort. True torque in the base – A direct result of precision manufacturing, each buccal tube allows the arch wire to be centered in the proper position on the tooth, thereby yielding the most accurate expression of the torque values. 17-4 stainless steel – Made of 17-4 stainless steel, the buccal tubes provide the best possible strength and wear. They also allow the hook to be bent several times without breaking. Funneled entrances – Each buccal tube has a funneled entrance to allow for easy insertion of the arch wire.

Orthodontic arch wires
VIA Wires give you the stability you need for predictable outcomes. Every time. Next-Generation Arch forms Maintaining original intercanine widths in orthodontic treatment is key to long-term stability.* That’s why Dr. Richard McLaughlin spent years studying patients’ natural arches to develop VIA Wires—the next generation of arch forms. Dr. McLaughlin’s philosophy of proper arch form selection is integral to predictable, patient-friendly treatment. VIA Wires are designed for a more anatomical fit and come in three unique shapes to help maintain the patients’ natural arch forms. We know you care about your patients. So choose the wire that will give them the smile they deserve.
Wires you can trust
Appropriate Forces VIA Wires are available in a range of metal types and sizes for appropriate force at each stage of treatment: Heat-Activated NiTi Superelastic NiTi Beta Titanium Stainless Steel Heat-Treated Stainless Steel
Precision Manufacturing VIA Wires are manufactured with precision and care. They are mechanically polished for smoother movement, laser inspected for shape and size accuracy, and each batch is tested for precise force values. The rigorous manufacturing and quality control steps ensure performance and predictability—every wire, every time. *S. P. Burke, A. M. Silveira, L. J. Goldsmith, J. M. Yancey, A. V. Stewart, W. C. Arch Wires
Incredible Esthetics. Matchless Performance. With their attractive, natural-looking epoxy coating and improved anatomical fit, VIA Wires Pearl deliver stunning smiles both during and after treatment.
Esthetic, Epoxy Coating Is Beautiful and Durable Unlike competitors who use plastic or PVS on their esthetic arch wires, VIA Wires Pearl are coated in an attractive, durable epoxy that chips less and lasts multiple appointments. When used in conjunction with Avex CX ceramic brackets, VIA Wires Pearl arch wires blend beautifully with enamel, creating simply stunning smiles.
Next-Generation Arch Forms Deliver Optimal Results Like the traditional VIA Wires, VIA Wires Pearl are designed for a more anatomical fit. Developed by Dr. Richard McLaughlin, they come in three unique shapes—square, ovoid, and tapered—to help maintain your patients’ natural arch forms and promote long-term stability and oral health.
Sleek-looking epoxy blends naturally with enamel and resists chipping.
Esthetic, epoxy coating adds 0.002ʺ to overall dimensions.
VIA Wires Pearl are available in Superelastic NiTi or Stainless Steel.

• Neutralizes acid etchants upon contact • Protects soft tissues and adjacent teeth • Prevents bond strength reduction during porcelain repair2 • Visible against tissues and acid etching agents • Rinses easily
When hydrofluoric acid contacts enamel during porcelain bonding procedures, formation of calcium fluoride occurs and bond strengths to enamel drop significantly. Therefore, it is vital to treat porcelain and tooth structure separately with appropriate acids. EtchArrest isolates hard and soft tissues when rubber dam placement is not practical. After etching is complete, apply EtchArrest over the top of the Porcelain Etch to immediately neutralize prior to rinsing.
• Hydrophilic drying agent chases moisture and draws resin in • Unique, replaceable tip with fibers that fan out and spread a thin layer of material over etched surfaces • Syringe delivery offers precision and accuracy, minimizing waste • Contains proprietary synthesized monomers and nanofillers that improve bond strength • Excellent for porcelain, composite, and metal surfaces 500-016 - Opal Primo Kit 4 - 1.2g Opal Primo syringes 40 - Opal Primo tips Shelf Life: 18 Months.

Tooth whitening treatments today are effective and safe if they are used appropriately and with the correct materials. This includes an initial diagnosis, professional teeth cleaning, briefing on the chosen whitening process, and monitoring of the patient during the treatment phase. Patients who have always been thinking about professional whitening are now doing so; and it is leading to veneers and more esthetic dentistry—which is fun for me!” Dr. Angela Gasser – Wadsworth, OH “Trèswhite has given those who could not normally afford professional bleaching the chance to whiten and brighten their smiles. It is so rewarding to have patients who have tried Trèswhite return to our office to buy kits for their relatives. Thanks to Ultradent for their innovation.” Dr. Diane Falsetti – Upper Saint Clair, PA 1 www.realityesthetics.com 2 Basting RT, et al: The Effects of Seven Carbamide Peroxide Bleaching Agents on Enamel Microhardness Over Time, J Am Dent Assoc. 2003 Oct; 134(10):1335-42. 3 Al-Qunaian TA, The Effect of Whitening Agents on Caries Susceptibility of Human Enamel, Oper Dent. 2005 Mar-Apr;30(2):265-70. 4 Clark LM et al: Influence of Fluoridated Carbamide Peroxide Bleaching Gel on Enamel Demineralization. • Removes superficial white and brown stains • Provides minimally invasive treatment for fluorosis • Comes in a direct, mess-free delivery • Provides one-appointment results • Has been called a “practice building” product • Autoclavable OpalCup minimizes splatter Opalustre is a 6.6% hydrochloric acid slurry that contains silicon carbide microparticles. This combination provides chemical stain removal along with gentle mechanical abrasion. OpalCups latch-type bristle polishing cups are used with the Opalustre microabrasion technique to facilitate a more aggressive action and minimize splatter. OpalCups finishing cups are used with Opalustre for micropolishing the newly treated enamel surface. Both types of OpalCups are autoclavable through a limited number of cycles.

Oral Hygiene Procedure 5% Sodium Fluoride Varnish
Remove luer cap from filled syringe and connect to empty syringe. With syringes connected, push material back and forth from syringe to syringe, at least five times. Push varnish into labeled syringe. Attach SoftEZ tip.
1
Blot teeth dry prior to application. Express a small bead from the tip. Brush a smooth layer onto area being treated. Gently pull the lip over the tooth surface to ensure saliva contact with the varnish. The varnish hardens when it comes in contact with the saliva and will stay in place for several days to weeks.
SoftEZ™ tip 4712 - 50pk - pg 87
• Fast, one-handed application • Simple to ensure an even distribution of fluoride • Mess-free mixing and application
Flor-Opal Varnish White is a flavored, xylitol-sweetened, 5% sodium fluoride in a resin carrier. Its unique syringe-to-syringe mixing system ensures an even distribution of fluoride once applied. The new SoftEZ paintbrush-like tip allows for easy placement and a no-mess, continuous application.
Prime with fluoride-releasing and recharging Opal® Seal during initial bonding and place Flor-Opal Varnish White at subsequent quarterly visits to recharge Opal Seal’s fluoride ions.
Flor-Opal Varnish White’s syringe and tip delivery allows ideal interbracket accessibility. We recommend using the SoftEZ Tip as shown here.
4513 - Bubble Gum Econo Kit 4514 - Mint Econo Kit 40 - 0.5ml Flor-Opal Varnish White syringes 40 - Empty mixing syringes 50 - SoftEZ tips
Uses
Flor-Opal Varnish White produces a mechanical/chemical occlusion of the dentinal tubules in the treatment of tooth hypersensitivity. The AAPD recommends fluoride varnish “for use as a preventative adjunct to reduce enamel demineralization in children identified at risk for early childhood caries.”2 The use of fluoride varnish for caries prevention has also been endorsed by the ADA.3 This treatment can be classified under ADA insurance code 9910: desensitizing medicaments.
