Welcome to Clinique La Prairie!

At Clinique La Prairie, we are aware that you entrust us with your most precious asset, your health. From that moment on, you have the right to expect our full attention in every area of our work.

Our state-of-the-art Medical Centre offers a comprehensive range of specialist consultations and surgical services.

In order to prepare for your stay in our establishment, we recommend that you read this brochure carefully. Our staff will only be too happy to provide you with any further information you may require.

TYPES OF STAY

Clinique La Prairie offers several types of stay.

OUTPATIENT STAY (ONE DAY) WITH HEALTH OR ACCIDENT INSURANCE

The costs of the outpatient procedure and stay, with the exception of extras, are covered by your basic insurance. Your insurance company will send you a statement of the legal contributions (excess and share).

HOSPITAL STAY (ONE OR SEVERAL NIGHTS) WITH HEALTH OR ACCIDENT INSURANCE

For hospitalisation in a private or semi-private ward, additional insurance is required. Clinique La Prairie is recognised by most Swiss private and semi-private complementary insurances.

All the steps for the coverage of the intervention and your stay are carried out beforehand with your insurances (basic and complementary) which must guarantee us in writing the coverage of the costs before you’re admission.

STAY WITHOUT INSURANCE COVERAGE

An estimate including the intervention and the stay is established. This must be paid no later than 28 days before your admission into the Clinic.

ADMINISTRATIVE RECOMMENDATIONS

Please kindly:

– make an appointment with your family doctor for a pre-operative check-up (medical report, blood tests and electrocardiogram required)

– the admissions office will call you for an anaesthesia consultation

The anaesthesia questionnaire will be sent to you by us or by your surgeon. Please fill it in and return it to the anaesthesia department as soon as possible.

In order to facilitate the administrative formalities for admission, we recommend that you send us the copy (front/back) of:

– your identity document

– your blood group card (if you have one)

– your insurance card/copy of your accident report

– your allergy card

The informed consent for anaesthesia received by mail with your appointment details must be submitted during the pre-anaesthetic consultation or, at the latest, 3 days before your admission with the aforementioned documents.

PREOPERATIVE RECOMMENDATIONS

The following recommendations have been established in agreement with the surgeons and our anaesthesiologists. It is important that you respect them:

10 days before the procedure, we recommend stopping the following medications:

– anti-inflammatories (such as Brufen®, Voltarene®, Irfen®, Ponstan®, Mefenacide®, etc.)

– Aspirin® (except for patients with arterial stents: coronary or other types).

and before the intervention:

– do not eat, drink or smoke for at least 8 hours before the anaesthesia

– take your medication only on medical order with a little water

– take a shower as instructed by your doctor (disinfectant soap, evening and/or morning)

– please do not wear make-up or body cream

– please remove all your jewellery, piercings and watch.

If you notice a change in your state of health (fever, flu, cough) before your intervention, please report it immediately to your doctor, surgeon or anaesthesiologist.

5 RECOMMENDATIONS

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR YOUR STAY

We recommend the following personal effects: – your personal belongings (toiletry bag, practical clothes and comfortable shoes) – your usual medications in their original packaging with the dosage – your CPAP-type breathing apparatus (for patients suffering from sleep apnoea) – your electronic device charger.

Our establishment is a non-smoking area and animals are not allowed on the premises of the Clinic.

YOUR ADMISSION TO THE MEDICAL CENTRE

On your arrival, the staff of the admissions office will carry out the administrative formalities. In order to facilitate the admission procedure, we recommend that you bring the following documents: – your identity document – your blood group card – your insurance card/copy of the accident report – your informed consent for anaesthesia if you have not yet submitted it.

If you enter the clinic on a Sunday, we would like to inform you that the admissions office, as well as the medical reception, is closed.

When you arrive, please ring the intercom at the entrance to the Clinic or contact +41 21 989 31 85 or +41 21 989 34 95. The nursing service will come to welcome you. We draw your attention that depending on the care in progress, the nursing service may take a few minutes to welcome you.

The staff of Clinique La Prairie is committed to welcoming you and your loved ones with professionalism. They make sure to listen to you and to inform you in a precise and appropriate way. Throughout your stay, you will receive quality and personalised care. However, if you have a specific wish, our team remains at your disposal to discuss it.

GASTRONOMY

In order to perfect your stay, our chef offers you gastronomic meals which take into account your medical requirements.

Every day, our dieticians will visit you to take your requests. The first post-operative meal is the only meal for which medical restrictions take precedence over your wishes. We thank you for informing us of any intolerances/allergies you may have.

OUR SERVICES

GREEN AREA

The Clinic has a garden where you can walk and relax. Before going there, be sure to notify the healthcare team. In summer, you can take advantage of this area as part of your rehabilitation.

INTERPRETER

Our team of interpreters is available upon prior request. Whatever your language, we call on people specially trained in medical vocabulary. Rates are communicated on request.

CAR PARK

The Clinic has a car park (refer to page 15).

CATERING

Lobby Bar: located in the lobby at the main entrance. A wide range of beverages and snacks await you.

SALON DU PORT

On the 2nd floor of the Medical Centre is the Salon du Port where you can relax. Newspapers, magazines, a television and a coffee machine are at your disposal.

LOUNDRY SERVICE

You can benefit from an external laundry service at the Clinic (normal or express service). This service is subject to a charge.

Clinique La Prairie provides quality and personalised care. Treatments are provided by staff who ensure your comfort and safety while respecting your privacy.

As soon as you arrive, the medical team will talk to you to find out about your state of health. Take advantage of this moment to give as much information as possible about yourself, so that the care you receive can be adapted.

Before your visit to the operating theatre, the nursing staff ensures that you remove your contact lenses, dental and/or hearing aids as well as your jewellery, watch and piercings. They then take you to the operating theatre.

In an operating theatre equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, our FMH anaesthesiologist, assisted by an anaesthetist nurse, performs your anaesthesia.

At the end of your intervention, you will be taken care of in the recovery room before returning to your room.

Pain is at the centre of our concerns, which is why we pay particular attention to post-operative pain relief.

Back in your room, a member of the medical team will assist you to get up and about. Our staff will also help you with daily activities while respecting your level of autonomy. They will also see to the application of medical prescriptions and monitor information relating to your stay.

MEDICAL VISITS

Your surgeon will visit you regularly. During the post-operative visit, they will explain to you how your procedure went. During your stay, you surgeon will plan post-operative treatment with the nursing service and/or physiotherapists. They remain reachable through the nursing staff.

PHYSIOTHERAPY

On your surgeon’s prescription, physiotherapy treatment will be provided in your room, in a cabin or in a therapeutic pool.

RIGHTS AND DUTIES

PATIENT’S RIGHTS

The questions/answers relating to your rights are detailed in the brochure “The essentials on patients’ rights” published by the Public Health Service of the Canton of Vaud. This brochure is available in your room or accessible on the website www. sanimedia.ch.

Your cooperation in making decisions concerning you is important. In this regard, advance directives allow us to know your wishes and to ensure that they are respected. If you have not written an advance directive and you wish to do so, we invite you to consult the standard form in your room.

Your comments allow us to improve the quality of our services every day. You have the possibility of filling out satisfaction or complaint forms which are available in your room.

DUTIES OF THE ESTABLISHMENT

The staff at Clinique La Prairie respects your beliefs, your culture and your privacy.

All information that you entrust to doctors and other health professionals is protected by professional secrecy. Your carers cannot provide information to third parties (including your relatives and your attending physician) or allow them to consult your file without your consent.

Pursuant to legal obligations, Clinique La Prairie is required to process and transmit patient-specific data (statistics, coding, etc.). This is carried out on a completely anonymous basis

INFORMATIONS FOR VISITORS

USEFUL INFORMATION

For hygienic reasons, potted plants are prohibited. Only cut flowers are allowed. Please be aware that some flowers with a strong fragrance may cause you some discomfort.

VISITING HOURS

Having your family and friends by your side can be a great comfort. They will be welcome between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. It is important that your visitors respect the time devoted to care and the tranquillity of other patients. On medical advice and if your state of health requires it, visits may be limited.

Visits are not authorised in the operating theatre and in the recovery room. The nursing staff is available to inform your relatives of the medical care in progress.

ACCOMODATION

If you wish to be accompanied by someone during your hospitalisation, please let us know in advance in order to better organise their arrival. Depending on our availability, we can offer them a room or add an extra bed in yours. The current rates are available on request from the admissions office.

MEALS

All visitors have the opportunity to have a meal with you (12 midday and/or 7:00 p.m.). From snacks to à la carte meals.

THE DAY OF YOUR DEPARTURE

The time of your departure is chosen in agreement with your surgeon. Depending on your intervention, the surgeon will address the following points:

– Prescription (medical treatment, adequate equipment, orthopaedic vest, splint, post-surgery underwear, varicose stockings, etc.)

– Post-operative control (change of dressing, etc.)

– Specific rehabilitation movements, physiotherapy

– Special diet.

Make sure you don’t forget anything in your room (personal belongings, chargers for electronic devices, valuables, etc.).

Before leaving your room, please call the nursing staff so that they can give you, if necessary, the documents you require (prescriptions, X-rays, etc.).

During the 24 hours following your procedure, it is forbidden to consume alcohol or drive. Try to organise your return with a relative, if this is not possible, our staff will call a taxi for you.

HOME CARE

On medical prescription, the home care network offers many services such as meals on wheels, household help, assistance with daily activities, etc.

OUTPATIENT STAY (ONE DAY) WITH HEALTH OR ACCIDENT INSURANCE

For a stay covered by your insurance, the hospital bill is sent directly to your insurance. Your insurance will send you a statement of the legal contributions (excess and share).

Additional costs are your responsibility (telephone, minibar, visitor meals, snacks, etc.). They will be billed later.

HOSPITAL STAY (ONE OR SEVERAL NIGHTS) WITH HEALTH OR ACCIDENT INSURANCE

For information, the number of days is counted per calendar day, including the day of your admission and that of your departure.

In the case of a stay covered by your insurance(s), the hospitalisation invoice is sent directly to your insurance company(ies).

With regards to compulsory healthcare insurance, it will send you a statement of the costs to be borne by you, minus your annual excess and the 10% share.

If you have additional insurance, this will cover the private or semi-private part.

Additional costs are your responsibility (telephone, minibar, visitor meals, snacks, etc.). They will be billed later.

As a rule, invoices for your surgeon’s and anaesthesiologist’s fees are sent to you separately.

STAY WITHOUT INSURANCE COVERAGE

The estimate (intervention and stay) must be paid no later than 28 days before your admission into the Clinic. Any additional costs, including extras, are to be paid before your departure.

For all questions relating to your invoice, our invoicing department remains at your disposal.

HOW TO GET TO CLINIQUE LA PRAIRIE

Located near major motorways, Clinique La Prairie is easily accessible by car. By train, we advise you to leave the train at Montreux station. From there, Clinique La Prairie can be reached in less than 10 minutes by taxi or by public transport.

Our limousine service is available, prices are available on request.

From Martigny: 40 minutes
