Cheap Chocolate Roulette

The Vulture Game

Everyone knows the best part of Valentine’s Day is buying all the cheap chocolate that goes on sale the day after, but why not go beyond that? And why not make a game out of it? In “The Vulture Game” (patent pending), a group of friends all split up around town to see who can scavenge the greatest amount of usable Valentine’s Day items for the cheapest cost. Bargain bin hunting is the most effective way to get those weird pink fluff treats for cheap, but the daring player might try dumpster diving. This is your chance to get nearly pristine bouquets of flowers and pink teddies that have been thrown away after rejections. As they say, one man’s cause for heartbreak and financial loss is another man’s treasure. This game can be spiced up with a reward at the end for the highest-scoring player or a punishment for the lowest-scoring.

What to do after the rose petals have been cleaned up Now that Valentine‘s Day is over and all the heart-shaped antacids have gone on sale, people are already looking forward to celebrating the next holiday. But why wait? There are plenty of things people can do after Valentine’s Day by simply using the tools already at their disposal. Here is a short list of just a few ideas for the single and the frugal.

Anyone who has ever bought cheap boxes of stuffed chocolate hearts finds themselves a victim of this game. The goal is simple: eat one chocolate at a time and hope that whatever the filling may be is edible and good. According to Dr. Andrea Robinson of the American Psychological Association, Imposter Syndrome is a “pervasive feeling of self-doubt, insecurity and competence despite evidence that you are skilled and successful.” Basically, it is the continual feeling that you are a fraud. It is the belief that you have been faking all your knowledge and achievements until now and are afraid that someday, someone will find out and you will ultimately fail. Along with that comes the belief that all past achievements were simply “luck” and the continual pressure to keep up the facade. Sound familiar? It probably does. The Galaxy S22 looks almost identical to last year’s S21, with only the dual tone color palette being removed in favor of one color. The chassis’s only majorly visible change is that the screen is now slightly smaller, coming in at 6.1” versus 6.2” on the previous model. Because of this, it is now slimmer than the Apple iPhone 13 and lighter than the S21. The only major exception is that the new S22 Ultra has a built-in S-Pen, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Note line, which after these releases appears to have been retired.

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics have been set in motion, and we already have plenty of firsts. For example, in the figure skating team event, Russian teen, Kamila Valieva, was the first skater to hit the double quad jump in her performance at the Olympics. This extremely difficult feat was first performed by Canadian Kurt Browning at the 1988 World Championship in Budapest.

At the current rate, Russia’s Kamila seems to be on the chopping block as she failed her drug test. As a coincidence, the Russian figure skating team has not yet received their gold medals, though they have gotten their promised award ceremony. This leaves the Hannah Olin is a junior history education major from Princeton, Ill. what you need to do. Sometimes, the best way to prove that you have the abilities and skills to succeed is by pushing through and proving that you can, even if you are scared.

Though Browning was the first to perform this trick, Valieva was the first to attempt the quadruple toe loop at the Olympics. This in itself takes courage and bravery that comes from years of training and confidence. While this upcoming 15-year-old Russian did perform exceptionally well enough to get a gold medal, she didn’t pass the postperformance drug test. The drug she tested positive for was Trimetazidine. 4 imposter syndrome. Additionally, a 2020 study said that 82 percent of individuals will deal with it at some point in their life. So, why don’t we hear about it? Why aren’t colleges and counselors talking about this more? Mainly because nobody wants to talk about it. Most students or individuals who experience these feelings of inadequacy, fear, self-doubt and more don’t share them with others. I know that was my experience. I was constantly terrified that my skills and knowledge were inadequate and that someday, someone would find out and I would let everyone down. All of my achievements were simply based on “luck” and my ability to pretend I knew what I was doing. When I went home over the holiday, I chatted with my mom. She was receiving a promotion at her job, and she started talking about her feelings, all of which were very similar to mine. In fact, she said she has been fighting these types of feelings since she was in high school. After this conversation, I talked to several of my friends back on campus. They all expressed that they, too, had been struggling with these thoughts and fears. In both cases, my mom and friends seemed so relieved to know that they were not the only ones. It helped to talk about and share our experiences, feelings and fears. Dr. Robinson says this is one of the best ways to fight these thoughts, by talking to others and realizing that you are not alone. She also suggests taking some time to reflect on your hard work and achievements and celebrate your successes. Finally, the famous saying “fake it till you make it” might actually be ©Envato

The current situation between Russia and Ukraine is one that has been brewing for a while. To completely understand what is going on, we have to go back to when Ukraine won its independence from the USSR back in 1991, when it was dissolved. While they held close ties for a good while after that, things eventually went downhill. This led to a small war between Russia and Ukraine, which led to the annexation of Crimea. Later in December of 2021, Russia made two draft treaties with Ukraine that it would not join NATO, and they would have to lessen the

This is less about the physical land, though, and more about the Russian relationship with NATO. Russia has stated that NATO is aggressive and a threat to Russia, when NATO policy states that “the Alliance does not seek confrontation.” They have constantly had a very poor relationship. But why does America care about Russia and the Ukraine? President Biden has gone on to say that the invasion of Ukraine would be, “the most consequential thing that’s happened in the world, in terms of war and peace, since World War II.” These comments come as the U.S. has been strengthening Ukraine, sending more than $400 million in military aid last year, and around $2.5 billion in assistance since 2014. While Biden said the United States will not send troops to help until Russia invades, he has sent troops to neighboring countries such as Poland.

The United States was in tight competition with Japan for the silver medal until the last day when they sealed the deal. The silver medal win is credited to Evan Bates, Madison Cock and Karen Chen who put on a breathtaking performance. Bates and Cock are distinguished amongst other pairs because of their chemistry on and off the ice. Chen not only uplifted the U.S. to get their first silver medal in 12 years, but she also took home her very first Olympic medal.

NATO presence in Eastern Europe, which obviously NATO did not like at all. Now, there are as many as 130,000 Russian troops in Belarus, while United States troops are beginning to arrive. But why does Russia want Ukraine? Russia has always considered Ukraine part of Russia. Back in 2014 when they annexed Crimea, Russia said they had a historical claim to it. Russian President Vladmir Putin also put out an article talking about how “Russians and Ukrainians were one people.”

On Feb. 8, ten acres in Hastings, Neb. were affected by a grass fire that had gotten out of hand. Adams County Emergency Manager, Ron Pughes, was the first to make the call. Pughes would later say that it could have been much worse. When he made the call, it was not originally for a fire but for a car on the side of the road. The fire ended up closing the railroad there between Marian and 26th. “Uncharted.”

The 14-year-long journey comes to a finale ©UnchartedSony is finally releasing the movie adaptation of the video game franchise

The movie is scheduled to be in theaters on Feb. 18, 2022. This film, now starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan, has been a long process for Sony. I found the Uncharted franchise through a popular youtuber around 2016, just after the “Uncharted: A Thief’s End” was released. The “Indiana Jones” style adventure game follows Nathan Drake through many impressive environments. Traditionally a first person shooter game, Uncharted also relies heavily on solving puzzles, making choices and following a story. The first game, “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune,” was released in 2007 for the Playstation 3. The year after, Sony and “Spider-man” producer Avi Arad started plans for an Uncharted film. With an assigned writing team, the rumored film faded from relevance.In2009, “Uncharted 2: Among Thieves” was released on the Playstation 3. With the rise in the franchise’s popularity, the movie resurfaced with a new, more promising writing team. Rumors about the starring actor were swirling, with Nathan Fillion chosen as the crowd favorite. The producers disagreed with that nomination and cast Mark Wahlberg as Drake. Two years passed, and the film had to replace a director. The team moved forward with their plans after bringing in writer and director Neil Burger who “better fit their needs.” Around this time, the third game was released. “Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception” brought the franchise to a new level of popularity, and the demand for the film grew in strength.2012brought new lows for the project. Neil Burger left the team to make “Divergent” (2014). He was replaced with two people, who were directed to rewrite the film. The first release date was scheduled for June 2016. In 2015, Sony was hacked, and the most recent script for Uncharted was leaked. The film was scrapped and was rewritten for a more mature audience, following the style of the games. This choice caused director Seth Gordan to leave, and he went on to direct “Baywatch” (2017) instead. When it couldn’t go worse, Mark Wahlberg dropped the project due to the delays. The star role was offered to Chris Pratt, who turned down the offer for unknown reasons. The role was tossed around until it landed with Tom Holland in 2017. By this time, “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” had become one of the top Playstation 4 games. Now, the film had a star and it had been freshly rewritten and approved. What else could go wrong? Surprise surprise, the film went through THREE more directors before director Ruben Fleischer joined the team after he completed “Venom” (2018). In an ironic twist, Mark Wahlberg returned to play the older mentor of his original character, a subtle reminder of the timespan of this production.Youknow the rest. The pandemic pushed the release date another year. Now the film is coming out on Feb. 18, 2022, 14 years after it all began. This film will definitely be worth the wait. Who knows, maybe positivity could change your life for the better!

Modern studies dealing with the mindbody connection have shown that endorphins produced in the brain depend on thoughts, feelings and expectations. If an individual is sick but is hopeful and has a positive attitude, the brain is likely to produce chemicals that will boost the body’s natural healing power.

In contrast, negative thoughts and emotions can prevent the brain from producing some of the chemicals that aid in recovery. Of course, some illnesses are beyond mental control, but thoughts and state of mind are still resources that could be useful in preventing illness. In addition to benefiting recovery, positive thoughts have been correlated with a better life expectancy. A researcher at Harvard School of Public Health recently studied over 70,000 nurses in the U.S. It was discovered that those who were the most optimistic had roughly 15 percent longer lifespans than those who were the least optimistic. The results were partially attributed to the fact that happier individuals smoked less, exercised more and were generally less stressed out. Long-term stress can increase the “allostatic load” on the body, meaning that there would be more wear and tear on internal organs. The

In the meantime, it’s worth evaluating our own attitudes and how it could be impacting our health. It’s undeniably difficult to completely shift your mindset, but it may be helpful to slowly incorporate small lifestyle alterations. Taking time to express gratitude, performing an act of kindness or pursuing engaging activities are all ways that are statistically proven to reduce unhappiness.

researchers mentioned that even these results painted only a small percentage of a much larger picture. It is likely that in future years, more will be discovered that further illustrates the relationship between positive thinking and biochemical processes within cells.

W hen illness strikes, negativity usually follows. More often than not, a fever or cough seems to be accompanied by feelings of irritation and exhaustion. We reach for Ibuprofen and NyQuil in hopes of curing the frustrating symptoms. Understandably, it’s rarely enjoyable to be coughing up mucus or being bound to a bed, but what if our negative attitude is part of the problem? The mind is exceptionally complicated and even modern science cannot fully explain many of the phenomena associated with it. Despite this, there is fascinating research present that explores the effects that emotions and mental states have on physical health.

First, Postman focuses on different types of communication methods and provides a short history on how they have changed society. “Today, we must look to the city of Las Vegas, Nevada, as a metaphor of our national character and aspiration, its symbol a thirty-foot-high cardboard picture of a slot machine and a chorus girl.” America is the land of entertainment, but it wasn’t always thisPostmanway. explains that a “new medium changes the structure of discourse; it does so by encouraging certain uses of the intellect, by favoring certain definitions of intelligence and wisdom, and by demanding a certain kind of content.” The changes in communication have altered the way we think about knowledge. half of the book, Postman focuses on the impact of television. This book was published in 1985, so it is dated, but it still has relevance. Our society has moved even deeper into entertainment with cell phones and social media. The digital medium does not lend itself to serious discourse.

I have seen this at work in my own education. Lectures and articles have been replaced with Crash Courses and kahoots.

n the introduction of “Amusing Ourselves to Death,” Postman discusses two dystopian predictions of the future from the books “1984” by George Orwell and “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley. Postman explains, “Orwell warns that we will be overcome by externally imposed oppression.” He goes on to explain how Huxley differs. “As he (Huxley) saw it, people will come to love their oppression, to adore the technologies that undo their capacities to think.” Postman sets up his thesis at the end of the introduction, writing that Huxley was right.

Teachers seem to believe that entertainment and education can work hand in hand, but all too often learning just turns into amusement.

My experience driving between Lincoln and Omaha I think it’s safe to say we all know what Nebraska looks like outside of Lincoln and Omaha. Cornfields. Open spaces. Desolation. Yet you can make going from one cluster of civilization to another entertaining as long as you’re with the right people and you know how to have fun. One freezing cold day in December my friend and I decided to drive to the mall in Omaha. We got in the truck and took off. At first we decided to take the backroads to Omaha. This turned out to be a mistake, because for the first 15 minutes of our drive we were stuck behind a slow moving farming trailer. Once we were finally free from that we continued our drive and finally made it to Omaha. After our mall trip, we decided to take the interstate back to Lincoln. In the words of Hayden Christensen, “this is where the fun begins.” Little did we know, we would be heading back to Lincoln right in the middle of a windstorm. This was also the day I learned that people in Nebraska drive fast. Very fast. So here we are in a windstorm, going 90+ miles per hour on the freeway just to keep up with traffic (for legal reasons, that’s a joke). While we were in the left lane of the three lane road, what we believed to be an intoxicated driver swerved into our lane and would’ve hit us if we hadn’t slowed down. We got past them and continued on, and I decided to make the ride less stressful by playing some music. So for most of the ride we were just jamming out to artists we both liked such as The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, Olivia Rodrigo, FINNEAS, Post Malone and many others, making the journey much more enjoyable. As we closed in on Lincoln, the laughable irony of this trip came full circle. On the other side of the highway, we saw the infamous blue flashing police lights. As we got closer we saw that the police had pulled over the exact same farming trailer that held us up for all that time! My friend and I laughed for a good 20 minutes after that. We finally arrived back in Lincoln and we both agreed that the ride back was the most fun we’d had in a while. So just remember, especially in such an open and spaced out place like Nebraska, it isn’t always about the destination, sometimes it’s about the journey.
