COFFEE SHOP ETIQUETTE As college students, most of us have lived the stereotype of studying at a coffee shop. At Union, we have the delicious luxury of enjoying EMILY The Mill right across the SYVERTSON street. It’s a great place to study, have a date, or meet with friends and procrastinate. But did you ever think that your coffee shop study sessions might continue past graduation? Many jobs today have more flexible work locations, and
some don’t even require you to have an office. Your local coffee shop could become your future “coffice.” So here are a few tips to make sure your welcome stays warm as a student and beyond: Buy something. If you bring your own to-go mug to The Mill, it’s only $1.30 to fill it to the brim with your favorite brew. Throw in some spare change as a tip, and you’ve used up your nickels and dimes that can’t go toward laundry anyway. At this rate, coffee doesn’t have to be that expensive. But, let’s be honest, sometimes we
just need to get away from the bustle of the Student Center or the confines of our rooms, even when our wallets are a bit dry. As a general rule of thumb, I try to buy something at least two out of every three days I study at a coffee shop. You can get away with this if you’re a regular and the baristas have seen you pay for your espresso on more than one occasion. Don’t dominate the space. You only have one butt, so you only need one chair. Especially during crowded hours, choose (continued on page 2)
