He's Large And In Charge
Donovan Hackett Alex Thompson Staff Writers
Mr. Jay Brady has recently become our principal here at Clovis High School, and we thought we would give the student body a chance to learn more about him and who he is. So, we decided to interview him and get exclusive insight into his life and decisions that he has made and plans to make here at CHS. We found that he was open to our questions, and his responses should be read carefully to clear up any misconceptions that people have had about school policies that he knows and understands quite well. Donovan: First things first, How long have you been an educator? Brady: I have been an educator for twenty-two years, and I love the experience that comes with it. Donovan: Twenty-two years. So where did you start, if you don’t mind me asking? Brady: Sandia Elementary, well I actually started as a teacher from Highland Elementary, and then became principal at Lindsey Middle School in Portales for a year. From there I went to Sandia for 7 years… Donovan: I should know, I was there. Brady: Yes you were; then I was a principal at Marshall for eight years, and you were there, but now I’m at the High School. Donovan: Sweet. Do you have any plans to go higher than CHS? Brady: I am plan to retire from here. Donovan: Alright, as you know, some students are unhappy with the cell phone rules. I mean, I can understand not being able to use them in class. Brady: Right. Donovan: However, some
students are a bit unhappy that we don’t have an explanation as to why we can’t have them before or after school on campus. Could we get an explanation as to why? Brady: So why at Marshall and at other schools it is not okay, and it’s okay for the High School to have phones?

grief. It swayed me into becoming an educator because I love working with kids, but I also see how important it is to have good people around young people, helping them grow and develop and finding what the next step is. Donovan: I have questions about the dress code, specifically about the leggings. Brady: Personally, I have no problem with girls wearing tights, spandex, or leggings; however, the Clovis School Board Policy says that tights, leggings, and spandex alone are completely inappropriate for school dress. That, notwithstanding, students may wear tights, leggings and spandex with an appropriate accessory such as a dress. Donovan: Fair enough. The student body has been looking for answers, and we are all glad to have a reason. Brady: There’s policy, there’s law, and there are rules; these all help create an enviroment for order. Donovan: Fair enough. Brady: Well, in the past the Mr. Brady during his Sophmore and Junior Year at CHS rules weren't followed, and just weren’t enforced. Brady: That is what I originally thought, but after I saw what happened today at our school pep rally, our school spirit showed, the kids were happy, engaged, and participating. Now I think we have great school spirit. Donovan: Yeah, that's just what I heard. Brady: What I was told was that students would not go to pep rallies and that it wasn’t a lot of fun and kids weren’t engaging, but after today I
would have to disagree with that, wouldn’t you? Donovan: Yeah, big time. Do you feel like you’re making a difference here? Brady: Too early to tell, but I’m here every day trying my hardest. Donovan: Ask a little later into the year, gotcha. Any hidden talents? Brady: None, I am what you see right here. Donovan: What I see is what you are? Brady: Yeah. Donovan: *Makes a face of fear.* Brady: *Starts Laughing* Donovan: Any words of wisdom?
Brady: Dream Big, Go Big, and Believe in yourself. Donovan: If you wanted us to ask you a question what would it be? Brady: I'm not sure. That’s probably the hardest question you have asked me. I think you’ve done a good job of putting some things out there that are on people’s minds and getting that information. To be honest, I don’t think that you’ve asked a question I wouldn’t want to ask. After getting to know more about Mr. Brady through this interview. We hope you realize that he is really a cool guy, we personally enjoy having Mr. Brady here at Clovis
High School, and we thank him for his time in giving us this interview. We also believe that by his enforcement of these rules, it might help improve GPAs for the better and influence better test scores. It is common knowledge that Mr. Brady is unjustly criticized for enforcing establiched rules. If we could give any advice to the students who are upset with the choice of Mr. Brady as our new principal, I would say to just open your heart and give him a chance. He’s a great guy and has a huge heart and is glad to help us with anything we need.
An Opinion:
Opposite Sides Of The Spectrum
President Candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton
A Big Maybe for Hillary
Austin Hodges Co-Editor-In-Chief
This year is the 2016 Presidential election, and it has come down to one of the most difficult choices of any presidential election: Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton. I know that people have mixed feeling about both candidates, and there has been much debate
over who would make the best president. Personally, I’m leaning toward voting for Hillary Clinton, at this moment, because of her qualifications and previous experience holding a position in office on more than one occasion. She has also been involved in Presidential affairs due to her position as First Lady of the United
States, and should know the steps necessary to becoming a successful and accomplished President. As I said previously, Hillary has experience, and a lot of it. She was a former Secretary of State, was a U.S. Senator, and is a lifelong advocate for women and family issues. Her international affairs experience is impressive.
She continues to work in the fight to get better healthcare for our veterans. She was also a U.S. Senator, showing she has had a big impact in the making of some of our laws, which include the bill S.3145 (the legislation designed to designate a portion of United States Route 20A as the “Timothy J. Russert Highway”) and the bill

S.1241, the Kate Mullany National Historic Site Act. Alan Blinder, who was a White House economist, has even mentioned, “She’s much more politically astute now than she was in early 1993. I think she learned. She’s really smart. She learns, and she knows she made mistakes.” He explained that she has learned how to become more politically inclined to make decisions as the
possible president. Alice M. Rivlin explains even further that what Bill lacked in discipline, she rescued him. These people have worked with her and Bill Clinton, and said that she has the potential to become a good president. Another one of the big reasons I think she could be a good president is the fact that she will be the first woman elected as president. We have never
had a President that was a woman. If you look back to President Obama’s presidential election, one of the biggest reasons he was put into office was because he was AfricanAmerican. People decided to vote for him because they thought he would help his race. This might be one of the biggest reasons she will be president. I believe a lot of women will vote for her because they think she
will protect their rights. Not unlike Obama, she would be uniquely different from all of her predecessors. To conclude, I believe Hillary Clinton has a chance to become president, but that's a big maybe. I don’t believe she will be a bad president, and I certainly am not trying to step on anyone’s toes. Currently I am undecided, but if I have to choose, it would be Hillary Clinton, at this time.

here. I highly recommend that people reading this article go to Trump’s website before passing judgement on his plan. I don’t think a huge wall in between Mexico and the US is necessary, but I do think that something should be done about the immigration policy in America. All of the other policies that Donald Trump has on his website are about child care, economic, healthcare, trade, veteran affairs, tax, and immigration reform. He also has a strong opinion on gun control, stating that “The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed upon. Period.” He also thinks that new parents should get six weeks of paid maternity leave, that working parents should be able to deduct childcare expenses from their income tax, and that they should be able to open Child Care Savings Accounts to help set aside money for their child’s future. I think all of his policies on child care reform are much needed, and a good investment in the future of America. I agree with Donald Trump that the Obamacare policy is ridiculous. I mean, why should you have to purchase insurance if you do not want it? healthcare policy, so I am eager to see what changes will be implemented if Mr. Trump is elected. I do not have a huge opinion on economic policy, but I do see the side effects of the US economy, from states that have not recovered from the 2009 Recession, and a housing market that is still unsure to this day. I think that our economy needs some serious change to be positively effected, and, from what Donald Trump says about all of his other issues, I feel like he would do what needs to be done in order to shock our economy back to the way that it is supposed to be. I like what he stands for when it comes to tax reform. Simplified taxes are easier for everyone to decipher, and, if we stop over taxing businesses, they will have more monetary assets to put towards employee benefits and creating more positions to be filled, thus lowering the employment rate. All in all, I think that Donald Trump will make a great President if elected. He has the people skills and the leadership capabilities to be a good leader. He does, however, need to learn how to control what he says. Every thought that comes to mind is not meant to be spoken out loud for everyone to hear; however, with his running mate Mike Pence, he is sure to be elected, and he surely has my vote!
Pokemon Is A Go!

haunting the night for those who are brave enough to go after them.
Pokemon GO is a freeto-play app that was released July 6th 2016 and has recently grown quite a bit. This app was made to encourage people to go outside to catch Pokemon and have the Pokemon grow stronger. Pokemon was created in 1993 with the release of Pokemon Red and Green in Japan. When it was released in America changes were made and the games were released as Pokemon red and Blue. With only the 1st generation, Pokemon GO plans on extending the Pokedex to more recent Pokemon, giving Pokemon fans and people who have yet to get into it more reasons to do so.
Pokemon GO is also faction based. At level 5, you have the ability to challenge a gym and choose 1 of 3 possible teams. These teams are Valor, Mystic, and Instinct; although, in many cases, fights have broken out due to disagreements as to which team is better. Gyms are areas owned by teams to show their supremacy in a town. When you choose a team, if the gym belongs to another team, then you may have your Pokemon fight the strongest Pokemon from the enemy team. If you win then the gym will come under the control of your faction. You can then place Pokemon at the gym to protect it from other teams.
The Pokedex
The Pokedex is the database where all Pokemon are recorded. At the moment, Pokemon GO has 141 Pokemon in its Pokedex though the national Pokedex has 766 entries counting what we can currently see coming in Pokemon Sun and Moon.
Kinds of Pokemon
Since Pokemon come in many different types some Pokemon are more common in certain areas. Water type Pokemon are found near water, for example. Around my house, there is supposedly a lot of rock type Pokemon, and I have also heard rumors about ghost types

Business Capabilities
This app has also been used by business to bring in customers that use the app. With the use of pokestops in order to bring people closer to the restaurants or shops people can stop to aqquire pokeballs, eggs, and potions along with a small bite to eat. Also, more common areas are home to gyms. Gyms are places where trains can train Pokemon or take control of it from another team.
Methods of Getting Ahead As with all apps, some things are available through purchase with in-game cur-
rency called Pokecoins. There are many ways to get the coins. One method is going to a conquered gym after 21 hours and collecting coins for each Pokemon in the gym. Another method of course is through micro transactions. Keeping Hold of Your Pokemon You would think that you start off with infinite storage for your Pokemon, right? Wrong! You have to level up in order to gain space. You can either do that or spend a little “moolah” if you’re impatient and want space. This is called the “Pokemon Storage Upgrade”, which does exactly as its name implies.
Pokemon Hunting
You will encounter Pokemon. That won’t be your problem. The main problem will be getting Pokemon stronger. It helps to know your environment before going after certain Pokemon. For example, I will use Geodude, a ground type, and Magikarp, a water type Pokemon. Don’t be expecting to find Geodude in Green Acres Lake. The lake isn’t made of the ground. However, if you look in the lake, you will definitely have an easier time finding a Magikarp. You do not fight other Pokemon using your own, but there are still uses for it. One is having a nine-tails to brag about and another one is making Pokemon stronger. When you catch a Pokemon, you gain its specific candy. This candy

will be used to make Pokemon stronger and, if you have enough candies for that Pokemon, evolve them.
From Sushi to Sea Monster
Evolving your Pokemon can also be a problem. You require finding more of the same Pokemon in order to get the candies required to make them stronger. Once you have enough they will gain strength in their stats making them better for battle. For this example we shall once again use the ever so wimpy Magikarp. Once you have 400 Magikarp candies you can turn your Pokemon into the ever so frightening, Sea Serpent Pokemon, Gyrados.
Shopping Spree
The point of coins is purchasing items. Of course your bag of groceries can’t have too many items. You can have a limit of 500 items. You are able to purchase healing items such potions and Revives to bring your Pokemon to your current location. You also have the ability to purchase better Pokeballs to increase your catch rate and lures to attract Pokemon back to full power if they lose in a battle.
Gym Battles
What can you do with a large Pokemon you happen to have been training? There are a few possibilities. You can show them off to your friends and boast about it. There is, however, a more enjoyable method involving these Poke-

mon. You can pit them against other Pokemon in gyms belonging to another faction. If your Pokemon is the strongest, then you become the gym leader. Then if someone else can see the gym there is a good chance they can see your Pokemon and that it is the top dog.
Tracking Those Tricky Pokemon
find Pokemon that belong in the area. In the bottom right corner, you can see small images of these Pokemon. By selecting them you can see all Pokemon in the area. Time is also important when tracking Pokemon. So Pokemon such as ghost types can only be found during nighttime.

All in all, this is a good app. This game is an incentive to get out of the house. The program is also quite useful in the case of business. Some people catch sight of a rare Pokemon, and people get together and work as a team in order to find these Pokemon.

In an effort to turn from the ‘cliche’ the producers turn this whole hearted show into a comedic release from all the true true sadness of the disabled young boy. Nobody in the show has the overall high ground, certainly not J.J., who, Maya is also not presented as either a saint or a scold, but as a flawed, fierce mother who is always braced for some kind of conflict because getting her son what he needs has often been a struggle. available. They have to stop a crazy terrorist who allegedly killed his wife and daughters. They succeed of course -sort of- but I won’t tell you how, you’ll see. The writers try to be as spectacular as they can, hoping they will be granted a substantial budget so it doesn’t look too fake. They don’t really bother with explanations, they bet on short-cuts, quick moves so we don’t get enough time to think. Except, when you read, you can stop whenever you like. That’s what I did a few times and it gave me a headache. Time travel stories always do. It’s so complex. It’s not a feeling I particularly like, to be honest. But it’s inevitable. Pitch, “This was a "Show the whole pilot in three minutes" cutdown and I normally don't like those, but I liked the authenticity that comes from MLB's involvement, I appreciated the explanation for the main character's pitching excellence — It should be a knuckleball and not a screwball, but whatever — and Kylie Bunbury really looks like a star. The potential to slide into sports clichés and absurdity is always there, but things in this trailer didn't rub me the wrong way and I remember already being irked by CBS' Clubhouse after its sizzle reel and neither the pilot nor the short-lived series ever got better. This had me ready for the pilot.” “The Pitch focuses assiduously on the real work of advertising, which is both a good and a bad thing. Good because who needs another show where people scream at each other? Bad because it's just not that exciting to show people sitting in meetings, and there are a
6 Purple Press, Sept. 28. 2016 heck of a lot of them in The Pitch, which will probably turn off teens who need a little more oomph in their programming. Still, the look into the kitchen where the sausage is made is instructive. A young person who learns how advertising works, understands who ads are trying to appeal to, and what method they're using to do so, is a young person who's no longer easily swayed by ads. For that reason alone, wholefamily viewing with discussions afterward is a fine idea.” Notorious, “But the “Notorious” pilot fails to sell its version of “Larry King Live” — “Louise Herrick Live,” anchored by Kate Jennings Grant’s
character — as culturally significant or particularly well-regarded. Similarly, Sunjata’s Jake does not get the appropriate treatment to transform him into a smarmy, savvy lawyer to the stars. As a result, every convoluted plot twist of the pilot feels like an unnecessary embellishment on top of an already nonsensical premise — because the show also fails to explain why this producer and this lawyer being friends with each other is unusual or interesting. And while “Conviction” at least draws together a cheerful ensemble who are already halfway settled into their series-long personae, very few
characters in “Notorious” fail to make an impression. Jennings Grant stands out as a scenestealing diva in the midst of a pilot desperately throwing everything it has at the screen. It’s interesting that ABC is so keen to sell a show in this mold that it’s offered viewers two choices of varying quality. Watching both back-to-back is to observe several types of press conferences, interrogations, alleged murderers, and sexy encounters with coworkers — when those same coworkers aren’t trying to sell each other out. It’s a specific fantasy of work, romance, and crime; a specific meditation on celebrity,
scandal, and the media’s relationship to both. Above all, it’s interesting just how much of both shows takes place on screens watching screens; just as in “Notorious,” Perabo’s character Julia watches her own show and other broadcasts, in “Conviction” Atwell’s Hayes watches the coverage of her own public appearances and press conferences with a jaundiced eye. The sexiness of both shows isn’t just the actors getting action; it’s the attention paid to watching, the scrutiny of scrutiny. And, of course, the peppy pop music accompanying each montage.”

Falling Back Into The Season
There are numerous T.V. shows returning for fall 2016. For some they can patiently wait, but for others the anticipation for their favorite shows is killing them. Although everybody is waiting their favorite tv shows for the fall, one show has been teasing us since July 2016 after confirming a season six last November. Ryan Murphy had released twenty-eight teasers for his show, American Horror Story, but only one teaser (Wind Chimes) that contributed to the actual season. Murphy was determined to keep the season a secret with no theme name in any of the teasers until last night. With the theme still a secret according to Ryan Murphy although the popular belief it is not My Roanoke Nightmares it contains true stories, graphic images, and really makes your skin crawl all throughout the episode, as there are ghost drowners, horrifying home videos, and terrifying retellings of a couple’s nightmares in a house built in the late 1700’s. American Horror Story has had us live in the “Murder House”, escape the “Asylum”, protect the “Coven”, attend the “Freak Show”, check into the “Hotel” and we are still waiting for season 6 to be revealed. As for the other shows returning for another season there is plenty of fan favorites, such as The Big Bang Theory which is returning for season ten, includes an “awkward family reunion” between Penny and her mother and brother, a
