"Always Get Better; Go Beyond Being The Best..."
Brittny Carlton Staff Writer
We all know the success of the band from the November 17 paper via the article “The Perfect Band Season.” Yet, there is still a lot that we do not know: what it is that the band does and what/ how they think. There is a lot that goes into what made the “Perfect Season”. It's only from where the band has been as a whole these past few years, but also from several years before that helped, little by little, to get to where they are today: an undefeated season. It is not just all the work that they put in dayto-day that got them where they are. It's was the years before when the seniors were freshmen and even when the seniors that year were freshmen. The hard work goes back for quite a while, working their way up not each year not only as a person but each year as an entire group.

Parents and boosters did a great job. It was a great whole team accomplishment.” Ty Frederick (Assistant Director): Q: How was your experience different actually being at the high school rather than just helping the high school and working at a middle school? A: “The student successes and failures

Q: Overall where do you plan on going with the percussion section? A: “The goal is to always get better. Take it to another level.” Q: What are your goals for this year's freshmen to be at when they are seniors? A: “Have all freshmen being comfortable with all percussion instruments not just one, making full rounded players to be comfortable with all instruments.” Brooklyn Wickham (Freshman Pit/Percussion): Q: What was your favorite part of this past marching season? A: “Getting close to
year because I know how fast the season go now.”
Q: Is there anything else you would like to add? A: “It felt great, and it still feels great to be a part of this band. We are truly one big family. When you play in band, you get to experience what too few people ever enjoy. You don’t just hear the music coming TO you through ear buds or speakers, you are IN it. You’re PART of it. The music is happening all around you. It’s the ultimate surround sound.” Adilene Rodriguez (Sophomore Bass Clarinet): Q: What was your favorite part of this past
Bill Allred (Head Director): Q: What was your favorite part of this past marching season? A: “Amarillo, due to the weather (freezing cold and rain) the performance was good given the circumstances the students were put under.” Q: What from this past year will you use in the years to come? (Visual, musical, and practice wise) A: “Have a new drill writer, to have stronger drill writing. All the other designers keep the same. Have a lot the same, you don’t fix what’s not broken.” Q: When was the last time, to your knowledge, the band won all of their contests during the season? A: “None.” Q: What do you plan on doing for the show next year? (Contest, show theme/idea) A: “Show theme is not settled it always changes, it already has changed twice. For contest probably going to BOA (Bands

Zia seeing the senior class win their fourth year. Band Camp was fun to see where everyone starts.” Sean Albarran (Percussion Director): Q: How did you like this past season with it being your first year at CHS? A: “I liked it because every other school I’ve worked at was tiny. There is no shortage of players here and there are a lot of good players here.” Q: What are your plans for the future Drumline and Pit? A: “Always get better; go beyond being the best in New Mexico. Go to being the best in this area then na-
and where do you want to be by then? A: “Keep the Zia title, being successful in every competition we go to.”
Q: Is there anything else you would like to add? A: “Marching Band is a great experience and I encourage everyone to “Just do it” –Shia LaBeouf” Sidney McDaniel (Junior Trombone): Q: What was your favorite part of this past marching season? A: “My favorite part is when we would all go out on the field for competition and they would call Clovis and everyone cheers.” Q: What is one of the most things you are looking forward to in this next years’ marching season? A: “To see the new show ideas and how well we can execute them.” Q: Is there anything else you would like to add? A: “I just want to say how proud I am to be a part of the band and the joy music brings to everyone a part of it too.” Morgan Johnson (Senior Flute): Q: What was your favorite part of this past
than all the other years? A: “There was a lot of changes in the band such as new directors, and I think that the new ones stepped up and did a phenomenal job. They were able to connect with all of us better than past years. And all of the section leaders got along better than they have in the past, so we all connected in a way that allowed us to become a better band.” Q: What was it like going undefeated for your last year in marching band? A: “It was incredible. I can’t describe the feeling I got when I heard our name called for the first place at each contest. We worked hard, it was definitely worth all of the early mornings and late nights and countless hours of practice.” Q: Is there any advice you have for next years’ section leaders? Seniors? A: “Patience. It’s hard, and yes, you will get frustrated. But at the end of the day, it’ll all be worth it. Seniors, make your last year count. And win Zia!”
Q: How was your experience different this year being a senior and section leader? A: “Over the past years, I never realized how much I would love band. I took it seriously, but I never knew how much it would end up meaning to me when it came to my senior year. My drive, my determination, and my passion for band became greater, and when it came to the From Left to Right: Morgan Johnson, Sierra Corvin, Adiene Rodriguez, end of the season, I was heartbroken. and Sidney McDanial. Makenzie Credle Layout Editor People are motivated by many things, and for many reasons, toward many goals. You could say that money is the motivator, but that is not true. If money were the motivator in life, we wouldn’t have people in the fields of health services, which pays $20,990 on average per year, teaching, which pays $56,420 on average per year, or protective services, which pays $20,890 on average per year. If money were the motivator in life, we wouldn’t have close relationships to our families, little towns, or people we will still be close to after we graduate and leave Clovis High School. If money were the motivator in life, we wouldn’t be where we are today as a country. Everyone eventually gets a job, whether it’s in high school, or during or after college, or after they graduate. We all eventually work, but some do it for less credit, respect, and money than others. Teaching is no easy feat. People are rude to teachers, get upset at them for doing their jobs and trying to help their students learn, and forget all the outside effort that goes into the task. When a
few teachers were asked what motivated them, they said that wanted to make sure everyone had someone to believe

or work late nights if they weren’t promised income? We live in a world that runs on
in, and that they love to help children see the point or finally get a concept. Police Officers, Firefighters, EMTs, and members of the Military risk their lives every day. They are motivated by their will to help others, and to protect people. No amount of money would be able to deter these people from their passions. I know it doesn’t always feel like it, but Clovis is a small town. You can’t run to the grocery store without seeing someone you know, and I don’t know about you, but I think it’s awesome. I also know that as much as I love small town living, I love living in Clovis because of my
wouldn’t stay friends with people from high school if money was involved. It isn’t easy to have a relationship when you hardly see someone. So, in conclusion, money isn't really the motivation in life. Money won't support you for every problem in life. Sometimes, it takes love from family or a friend to solve the biggest problems. You need to be passionate about what you decide to spend your life doing, and be motivated by your goals to be happy. Money will motivate you, but it will steer you in the wrong direction. money; it’s sad to say but people are even categorized by the amount of income that they make. We are either rich, middle class, or considered poor. Of course, there are things that only money can buy. Let me rephrase that: money does buy everything. Its no wonder that it is one of the only reasons that people do the things that they do. Money pushes people to be great, but it is also the reason why people make poor decisions. If money wasn’t such a desirable object in life, people wouldn’t find such odd ways to make ends meet since getting a job isn’t easy to do in

even may have angelic displays or Santa displays. The Santas on the trailer are well spirited and very rosy and provide candy to the children as well. The children watching the parade, wrapped in blankets or drinking hot chocolate, enjoy seeing these Santa’s in their town parade. They love to see Santa make appearances in the city for everyone to see. Along with
the Santas, Clovis children look forward to the candy and treats the people hand out during the procession of floats.
Money makes the world go around, and can make or break anyone. Personally, I think money is the number one motivator in anything, work, chores, and even in some cases school. People don’t just do something for nothing. People are motivated by their selfish desires and goals. To those who have jobs, or are thinking of getting a job the number one reason is money. Now I know not all people are only thinking about money, but would people wake up their early mornings
this day and age, let alone getting a well-paying job. The desire for money is the reason why people rob banks, the reason why people pawn off their belongings, and the reason why people sell illegal substances .The only thing that pushes people to do such acts is the lack of income and not being able to afford their needs in life. If money weren’t so glorified, and it wasn’t so looked down upon to be living in poverty, I believe that maybe there would be less violence. Possibly peace could be found. However, everyone wants money to be able to buy the extras instead of spending all of their earnings on bills and the things that they absolutely NEED to be taken care of. The scary fact is, that some people would do the unspeakable, just to have a little extra. That is what the world has come to, and to someone like me, that is very terrifying. Money is what people want, and some of us will do anything to get it. Of course, other motivators are success, and to be well known, but money is the number one motivator today. Being kind and humble isn’t enough anymore.
The Christmas Light Parade

vibes with the volume we love. The parade has an awesome drill team who performs a dance while walking in the parade. The drill team adds some spirit to the event. These events provide some groove to the light parade. The Clovis Light Parade is a successful event every year. This parade pulls on the heartstring to the local residents in the
community. They look forward and mark their calendars to when the day arrives. The Clovis Parade has been here for years and years. It’s a tradition I believe, no one wants to miss out on. It’s a thrill and an awesome tradition we aren’t going to replace as long as we have our community and have our holiday spirit. This is, something you don’t want to miss!
Paden Simms Staff writer This month on November 13th, Paris was attacked strategicly by the terrorist group ISIS. The terrorist group attacked in six locations, including the Stade de France, a concert hall, and a couple of resturants, wounding threehundred and fifty-two people and killed one-hundred and twenty-nine people. These attacks were planned in Syria and finalized in Belgium said French President Francois Holand, six of the seven attackers were from Syria as well.
Michael Lynch Co-Editor The year 2015 has been something else; so much has literally happened this year, and the year is not over yet! Great, bad, and maybe even sad moments have happened during the year, and I am here to review this whole year. (Well just some highlights.) The first highlight is going to be a bit of sad one that happened in the beginning of the year; that is Bobbi Kristina Brown (daughter of Whitney Houston) was found unconscious in a hotel room. From there, Brown went into an induced coma, and later
Will Terrorism Last?
The search is still continuing for the seventh. France responded to this attack on Sunday by bombing the ISIS capital Raqqa in Syria. France sent twelve planes and dropped twenty bombs on the capital, however, there are few casulties, the capital is almost abandoned and there is no sign of ISIS there. Many think they fled in the expectation of Frances retaliation attack. Also no civilian casulties have been reported in Raqqa. The U.S. has been a big help
in supporting the French by giving information on some targeted spots the U.S. has been investigating since September. France also takes ISIS’s attacks as an act of war and has made an example of what happens when you mess with a country and kill or wound its beloved people. Terrorism had been around for a long time. Can we stop it? Honestly I do not know, there will always be an extremist group that wants to strike fear in the hearts of the world, they crave power and use fear to
get it. However, does that mean we should just sit there and wait for the attacks? No, France showed the world that they are not scared of ISIS, the attack happened Friday and two days later they retaliated. America is sitting at a standstill, it pleases me that we have given help to France and confidential information in order to help them retaliate. But, ISIS has been killing American reporters and civilians all the time and makes threats to America saying they have people inside ready for orders, and that we are next on the hit list. Does
ISIS really want to do this? Is terrorism really that important? Apparently it is, but when you poke the raging bull, you get the horns. Many Americans are afraid of ISIS and many more are not, fear will never triumph the heart of hope. Hope is stronger than fear and will change the rules of the game ISIS is playing. They will lose. It may cost us a war but they will not win this, there are to many Americans that will fight and not give up till the last one is killed. I am one of them, and if it comes to that point

passed away on July 26th. As we jump a little forward from January to March 2nd, where The New York Times reports that, during her time as Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton was using her personal email for official business. House Republicans were aware of the email account in 2014, which is causing big issues for Clinton for candidacy for President. On the 24th of April, during an interview with ABC, former Olympian and reality star Bruce Jenner told Diane Sawyer, "Yes, for all intents and purposes, I am a woman." Bruce later stated that he would later reveal his new
identity on the cover of Vanity Fair. Later in the month, a peaceful protest got violent as rioting in Baltimore after Freddy Gray's funeral. Gray had been arrested earlier in month and died from a spinal injury while in custody. When we got into the month of June, Rachel Dolezal, resigned as the head of the local NAACP in Spokane, Washington, after an interview on the Today show that she identifies as black. On the 26th of June The Supreme Court rules 5-4 in favor of same sex marriage making it legal in all 50 states. On July 14th, NASA's “New Horizon”,
completes its flyby of Pluto, which gave scientist a great opportunity to look close at the planet. This was a great milestone for science and will help improve our technology incredibly! We go into August with former president Jimmy Carter announced that he has cancer and that it has spread to other areas of his body. Later on releasing that it has spread to his brain and he is receiving treatment! On the 26th, Ex-reporter Vester Lee Flanagan II, also known by his on-air name Bryce Williams, shoots and kills WDBJ reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam
Ward during a live broadcast. Flanagan later on killed himself after being tracked down by police. Going into the end of August we were shocked with Kanye West, after he had released at the VMA awards that he will be running for President in 2020. In the month of November so much happened, but the most important even was the terror attack in Paris on the 13th, this had opened many minds on what the world could be coming to. Many civilians were posting their experience and what they felt during this event, many were affected, either physically or/and emotionally.

I will fight and hope you would as well. So have hope instead of fear, our country may be messed up but it will always protect us people and fight back for what is right. Breaking News: Paris did get the final attacker, after a seven hour raid, they have found and killed the main leader of the group. This news was updated after I had written this article, but they have killed him after a seven-hour raid. Terror will not overcome our world.
With many other events happening in the month of November such as the Victoria Secret Fashion Show, which featured two of the worlds top Models, Kendall Jenner & Gigi Hadid. With Kendall being named Model Of The Year of 2015, as well as Gigi being named Model Of The Year of 2014. This article was mostly highlights of many different topics throughout the year of 2015, many being pop culture, politics, or even just little fun facts. Hope you all enjoy the rest of the year, and what do you predict will happen next year?
The Music Of Musicians Alex Thompson Austin Hodges Staff Writers Music is always evolving throughout different decades. The music industry has seen many different talented singers and musicians, from Louis Armstrong and Justin Timberlake. Music is one of the only things left where people are able to express themselves or even relate to. Society is heavily influenced by the music we listen to. Our first stop is the 60s. This era is known for mostly rock and roll. This era was impacted by many artists, which include The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Yardbirds. These Musicians Inspired the fashion of this era, meaning
if they wore it, the people wanted to wear it. Music changed in the 1960s, coming from rock and roll to a hippie type of music. Artists and musicians, such as The Beatles and The Who, mainly ruled music during this part of the decade. Their music was more a peaceful approach, focusing mainly on the fact of Peace. The 70s was a impactful year for music. A few of the most important musicians and artists that emerged from this decade were The Eagles, Sir Elton John, and the dance
phenomena called Disco.
Michael Jackson, Madonna, and
The 80s music was very loud and Popping. Fashion of this Era was extremely affected by their Music. Clothes were very Eye catching and loud, with a lot of bright colors. This era of music was the beginning of Pop music, such as
Prince. One of the biggest trends was their hairstyles. Musicians started this trend by having very big and extravagant hairstyles. The 1980s was a very exciting era. In the 90s, society changed. Society was influenced deeply
by the artists of that time. For example the artists that were popular at the time were Ice Cube, Tupac, Nirvana, LL Cool J, Moriah Carey, and Boys to Men. The style in the 90’s was based off of gangsters, the baggy pants, the bandanas, spandex. This was a era of mostly partying and having a good time. Next came the 2000s. The 2000s are full of many talents, but this era was mostly know for its rap music. This era was a time where many artist like 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, and Eminem stood
out. Most of these artist were not liked by many people because of their explicit language. Their music made kids want to dress and act like them. These artists didn’t realize the impact they had on society. Most of these artists got themselves into major troubles, which made teens and younger people think it was all right to act the wrong way. Time proves that people love music. Society has changed, as music has changed, throughout the decades. Each decade made its own impact on society through there music. Peoples styles and actions were heavily effected by the music and musicians of their time.
