Innovation in Advanced Manufacturing One example of an innovative advanced manufacturing operation in the Charlotte area is the Design Foundry in Hickory, NC. It announced a $3.1 million dollar investment and 202 jobs over five years in early 2019. It will create a unique furniture operation which emphasizes the rich history of furniture making which is plentiful in Hickory, with advanced laser cutting technology, along with iPads at every station, moving furniture-making into the 21st century.
