Individual Practice With my individual practice briefs, I wanted to create projects that challenged myself to create something new and with new methods. Due to this, I intentionally went for projects that I wasn’t particularly interested in, in order to throw myself into the deep end with it.
Another one of my aims was to produce work I could use in my portfolio. To do this, I would have to undertake briefs that forced me to use different styles in order to demonstrate that I can adapt to the problem at hand, and I don’t pigeon hole myself into a single style of working.

Landbay | YCN Landbay was the project I put the most time into and I’m definitely most proud of this project. I was able to create a unique concept that I was sure would not be similar to the other entries and I was able to create an engaging presentation to go along with it.
I interpreted the brief as creating a new element to the brand Landbay to attract an audience they had not reached in the past. In order to do this, I researched the target audience that I was designing for and the barriers that stop them engaging from brands like Landbay in the first place.
My end goal with this brief was to create a platform for Landbay to communicate with its’ audience in a way that it hadn’t previously, and to create a new level of depth to their relationship with their consumers.

Landbay | YCN My response to this brief was a professional platform for university leavers to engage with that addressed the jargon and concepts to do with financial trading that other companies would only simplify for the audience. This gave way to a new product Landbay could offer its’ clients; knowledge.

Landbay | YCN As Landbay is an onlineonly platform, I felt it was appropriate to create most of my elements digitally and to focus on the online aspect in terms of advertising. This was the correct move to make as my target audience of university leavers are one of the key markets in the digital age.
I created an app and website to work in tandem with eachother, and to offer different ways to engage with the platform. I had to keep in mind to put as much effort into both the website and the app, as they were both as important as eachother in targeting the widest audience available.

Landbay | YCN My final thoughts on this project is that it was extremely successful and I was able to create a concept unique to me, and design it to a professional standard in order to adhere to the conventions of financial companies, but add a friendliness with the personal aspect of Platform.
I worked well within my timescale even though I created a huge amount of elements, spanning over three different mediums and I was able to create a whole campaign in a relatively short timeframe in the context of the competition.
One thing I could improve on in the future is making my own mock-ups to stand out to the judges, as it is always refreshing to see real photos as opposed to mock-ups that have been downloaded from the internet.

Goat Collective: Disposable Society The goat collective brief was done in two days from start to finish, and I wanted to create something that was created for good. Instead of simply designing something that was effective, I wanted to create something that impacted people to think differently.

Goat Collective: Disposable Society My piece challenged the process of deforestation and compared it to that of cutting information on a piece of computer. The comparison to something done so easily conveys my thought process of “this is being done far too quickly and easily for such an important resource.

Goat Collective: Disposable Society I really enjoyed the Goat Collective brief as I was selected for the exhibition and was able to network with other students that had been picked and even professionals from different studios that had come down to look at the work.

Secret 7 My Secret 7 brief was done over the course of 8 hours from start to finish. This was unusual as last year I put more hours into my work but I was less proud of it, which has taught me a valuable lesson on when to let go of a project and finish it. My aims with this project were to create something abstract and to create something personal to me.

Secret 7 I was happy with my final piece as I had finally ventured into proper film photography and created a piece of work without any external factors motivating me such as inspiration. The feedback I received from this project was overall positive and many of my peers said they could see this being a winner.

Secret 7 On final evaluation I think this brief was successful and I achieved the aims I had set out before undertaking the competition. I feel I am becoming more confident with my work and this allows me to take more and more risks which make me grow as a designer and an individual.

Individual Practice Evaluation The individual practice portion of this brief was very useful to me as it gave me an insight into how professional designers would work and took some of the framework out of the course which I was using to help me, and giving me more independence granted me confidence I didn’t have prior to the brief.

FeverTree - Collaborative The collaborative brief was very interesting for me as I had not previously worked with other courses ever before. I really enjoyed this brief as I had a great partner and we managed to work together in a succinct and timely manner.
Something that really challenged me was the target audience that we were designing for. Instead of the usual young target audience I find myself creating products for I was designing for 60-65 year olds, which is a vastly different target audience than I’m used to.

FeverTree - Collaborative Our final pieces met the brief successfully, encapsulating the handcrafted feel of South America while still retaining the feel of modernity with FeverTree products. We also went further than the crowd by producing our bottles ourselves to take proper product photography (although our photography didn’t come out as well as I had hoped.)

FeverTree Evaluation Overall, I really enjoyed working with an illustrator to make work I would never have originally thought of. I think fusing our two styles really helped create a unique mix of authenticity and modernity, albeit there were some communication problems near the end of the project when we had to take product photos, and they definitely don’t do the bottles justice.
