DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE CONRADO B. MORGAN
Dear Brothers, Family, and Friends of the Third District,
With extreme enthusiasm, I greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The district continues to grow and exercise the Fraternity’s cardinal principles (Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift). I remain highly enthused to represent the Third District, “The Birthplace of Omega,” as the Brothers unselfishly continue to “live their creed,” providing support to our commu-nities.
We had quite a few achievements and events during the Summer and Fall. Numerous chapters hosted their mandated Scholarship events. Collectively, the chapters presented over $125,000 in scholarships to deserving students across Washington, DC, and Virginia. We celebrated Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.’s 83rd Grand Conclave in true Omega fashion. A few District Brothers were recognized and elevated for their work in Omega. Brother Mark Jackson was elected as First Vice Grand. Brothers, Former District Representative Gary C. Clark, International Protocol Chairman, Norm Senior, International Editor of the Oracle, and Daniel Dunn were recipients of the 2022 Grand Basileus Award. The Third District and Pi Lambda Lambda (Third District) were blessed to win the International St. Jude fundraising award.
Additionally, Brother Dunn received the International Superior Service Award. In addition, Brothers participated in the STEM program to uplift the youth. Notably, the Fraternity recognized the Honorable Brigadier General Charles Young for his deserving long overdue promotion by providing a tribute and celebrating with his family.
Regarding our Fatherhood Initiatives and Mentoring Program, during the Congressional Black Caucus, we supported the “MOVING FATHERS AND YOUNG MEN FORWARD: Against a Climate of Racism, White Supremacy and Policies that are Attacking the Black and Brown Community” event. Additionally, the Third District hosted the “Truth & Trauma” program.
Brothers, it is through your unwavering commitment to Faith, Family, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and the community that we continue to allow the light of Omega to shine bright for all to see. Undoubtedly, the Third District will continue to excel to greater heights.
May God continue to bless you, your families, the Third District, and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. Our prayer is for all to be comforted and remain safe and healthy.

Brother Dr. Ronald Taylor, a native of Detroit and the current superintendent of schools for the School District of South Orange and Maplewood, New Jersey, served as the keynote speaker for the program. “I’m always charged up to speak to our young people and their families,” Brother Taylor said. “You were selected to receive scholarships because of your responses to the topic, ‘What does your community need, and what contributions can your community expect from you to address [those needs]?’
“Your answers were deemed thoughtful, insightful, and motivational enough to be recognized,” Brother Taylor said. He added that he found the essays revealed “phenomenal plans to support communities” in the scholarship essays submitted by the students. Those plans included ideas for youth programs, affordable housing, youth employment, alleviating health-care disparities based on demographics, [and] international clean water projects. Khilil Biles currently attends North Carolina A&T University and is majoring in civil engineering. Masai Jenkins attends More-
house College and is majoring in business finance. Ian Teal attends Kent State University. David Warmington attends the University of Oklahoma and is majoring in electrical engineering.

Brother Milligan challenged the students to make a mark on society “so significant that it changes the foundation of our community, our country, and our world and creates new opportunities for all our people.”
Brother Dalton quoted Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and Brother Langston Hughes encouraged scholarship participants to pursue their dreams.
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die Life is a broken-winged bird That cannot fly.

ership development mandate. TGF mentors and develops leadership skills of young men, ages 12 to 18, and designates them as “Young Leaders.” The program is supplemented by volunteers from the community “Bridge Builders,” who provide mentoring and training in a wide variety of subjects and skills. The “Crossing the Bar” ceremony is TGF’s rites of passage ceremony recognizing Young Leaders heading off to college. As Alfred Tennyson’s poem, “Crossing the Bar,” is recited aloud, parents stand with their respective sons and are led in a modified “blessing of the head” ritual. This year, the Young Leaders who “crost the bar” were Jordan Simmons, Duane McGill, Bryon Brown, and Keith Rainy. Brown and Rainy were unable to attend. Each received a trunk filled with items to assist in kicking off their first year of college.
The VUF also presented three James Dixon & Calvin Sears Memorial Scholarships during this event. Named after two late members of the Gamma Xi Chapter, scholarships of $1000 each were awarded to two of the Golden Fold graduating seniors and one other non-member senior. Recipients this year were Young Leaders Jordan Simmons and Duane McGill, as well as Jeremiah Lauderdale. Simmons is graduating from Green Run Collegiate High School in Va. Beach and will be attending Norfolk State University to major in Mechanical Engineering. McGill, also from Green Run, will attend Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, NC. He plans to major in Mass Communications. Lauderdale is graduating from Kempsville High School in Va. Young Leaders Simmons and McGill were joined in the ritual Crossing the Bar ceremony by Lauderdale and their respective parents/stand-ins. At the conclusion of the Blessing the Head ritual, the “I Dare You Challenge” was issued to the new graduates by TGF alumnus and recent NSU graduate Baldwin A.Varner. Individual TGF awards were presented. The awards represented the program’s Four Pillars: Scholarship—Jordan Simmons and Duane McGill.; Sound Adulthood—Duane McGill; and
Uplift—Ralph Parker. The Bridge Builder Award was presented to community volunteer, Alex Hightower. Tiana McGill received the Parent of the Year Award. This year’s Rising Star Award went to Young Leader Eliza Webb. Rev. Dr. Luther Allen, III, pastor of First Lynnhaven Baptist Church in Va. Beach, was presented with a $500 donation from the VUF. PRAYER
EVERYONE IS WELCOME!
Rev. Courtenay Miller
The Third District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated instituted the weekly Third District Worship & Prayer services on Sunday nights at 1911, starting in April 2020. Initially, the prayer services were designed as a prayer service for COVID-19 pandemic relief. The prayer service mission developed into opportunities for fellowship and celebration across the District and beyond.
Over the past year, the Third District Worship and Prayer service has combined powerful words of uplift, great music, fervent prayers, and fellowship in True Omega fashion. This event is open to Brothers of Omega, family, and friends alike. We have enjoyed special services that celebrated Omega Legacy on Father’s Day, Service Members on Veterans Day, and couples married for more than 50 years on Valentine’s Day, with two of our celebrants sharing 68 year partnerships. We have showcased the future leadership of the Fraternity, and nation, with student led services commemorating HBCU Homecoming, College Graduation, and Mother’s Day. Both local, regional, and national representatives of the National Pan-Hellenic Council have participated along with every member of our Supreme Council.
The Third District Worship & Prayer Service facilitated by Third District Chaplain Rev. Courtenay L. Miller, under the leadership of District Representative Brother Conrado B.Morgan. This service has provided a forum for uplift in an uncertain and unsteady time. while also providing a vehicle for reconnection and connection to participants across the county and indeed around the globe. The Third District acknowledges the contributions of the many worship leaders, musicians, and the automation team for their contribution to this great worship and friendship experience.

Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter and the Bernie L. Bates Foundation awarded $30,900 to 16 scholars for the 2022 Scholarship and Community Recognition programs. The awards were presented in two groups of honorees and community recognitions: Students who applied to the Bernie L. This year’s scholarship honorees included twelve Bernie L. Bates Memorial Scholarship Awardees ($30,000) and six Community Recognition Awardees ($900). ALPHA IOTA MEETS BROTHER JIM CLYBURN
AND OTHER POLITICAL OFFICIALS
On Sunday, July 9, 2022, the Alpha Iota Chapter, Third District of the Omega Psi Phi, Inc., met with special guests House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, Congresswoman Elaine Luria, Delegate Cliff Hayes, and Delegate Clinton Jenkins. This event was held at Brother Delegate Cliff Hayes’ office in downtown Suffolk, Virginia. The brothers of Alpha Iota engaged in thought-provoking dialogue with their distinguished guests about the issues facing the community and the country, specifically around voting.
Brother Clyburn addressed raising public consciousness surrounding voting rights. “Every vote counts and our elections must be safe and accessible so everyone’s voice is heard,” said Cly-
burn. A discussion ensued about the restoration of voting rights for ex-offenders who have paid their debt to society. Citizens believe that state and federal policies should uniformly protect the right to vote, promote trust in our elections, and boost voter participation across the United States. Through litigation, policy analysis, state-based advocacy, and public education, the Alpha Iota Chapter seeks to protect the freedom to vote and build confidence in our election system with support from our Commonwealth and federal officials.
Citizens from surrounding cities in the Hampton Roads area attended this event, and the Alpha Iota Chapter Brothers look forward to hosting additional voting events in the near future.

HISTORIC PERSEVERANCE COURSE OF BRIG. GEN. CHARLES YOUNG
Brothers of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., led by Alpha Omega (Third District) Chapter’s Billy Mathis (93-Alpha Chapter), personified the Cardinal Principle of Perseverance to the utmost by completing a rigorous and grueling “re-trace” of Brigadier General Charles Young’s nearly 500-miles trek from Wilberforce Ohio to Washington, D.C., Sept. 1st – 5th.
Brothers who participated in the ride with Mathis included Brothers Herbert Anthony, Brother Carlton Fairley, Carl Alleyne, and Jason Leecost.
Brother Charles Young, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.’s second honorary member, completed the 497-mile ride on horseback in 1918 over 16 days to prove his physical fitness following his forced retirement from active duty in the U.S. Army. Brothers Mathis, Anthony, Fairley, and Alleyne completed the same ride on bicycles over four days.
Although it was a long and arduous trip, the team somehow got used to the daily grind with little to no sleep, waking up early to tackle LONG, STEEP hills by bike, then repeating the cycle again and again. We woke up to rainy weather, big decisions about riding, and contingency plans. Before pushing off, the group said a prayer, thankful for a safe journey this far, and they were off.
“Words can’t express how gratifying it was to have folks take the time to not only come out and show support but also brave the weather and actually ride with us...super DOPE! “ stated Mathis on his Facebook posts.
“There was NO better place to end our journey than at Arlington National Cemetery, at the gravesite of the man who inspired us and countless others. Brother General Kip Ward, U.S. Army retired, shared some inspiring words. I cannot thank him enough for his guidance and presence!! I would be remiss in not thanking my fraternity brothers, who came from near and far to be present... THANK YOU, BRUHS!,” Mathis added.
Brother Mathis proposed the idea to ride for honorary Brother Young about two years ago, dubbed the effort “The Perseverance Cycling Tour, Celebrating the Life and Achievement of Brigadier General Charles Young.”
Brothers Mathis also presented a check for $1,500 to the Brigadier General Charles Young Foundation prior to the start of the ride by the Brothers.

BROTHERS, PANELISTS DISCUSS RESHAPING, REVIVAL OF THE MOVEMENT
The Washington, D.C. Chapters of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., along with the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Washington, D.C., NAACP Washington, D.C. Bureau, and the Washington, D.C. Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (WDCACDST), hosted the panel discussion, “America’s Open Wound, The Reshaping and Revival of the Movement,” June 11th at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in D.C.
Panelists included Basileus of Alpha Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Brother Xavier Manning; D.C. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton; President of the NAACP D.C. Bureau Akousa Ali; Director of Religion and Education for the National Action Network Dr. Marquez Ball; and President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Washington, D.C., Valerie Robinson. Valerie Robinson is also a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Derickson Lawrence served as moderator for the program.
Discussion during the event focused on issues impacting communities of color, particularly the Black community, across the nation, including gun violence, voting, and closing the wealth gap.
Panelists stressed the importance of people voting in all elections (local, state, and national) and not just during those elections held in presidential years.
“Voting rights are systematically under attack right now,” said Ali, one of the youngest presidents of an NAACP branch nationwide and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.’s WDCACDST. She said voting rights attacks appear to primarily target African American voters who played a critical role in winning the White House and U.S. Senate during the past election. These attacks are taking the form of “racist, Jim Crow-era policies reinstituting oppressive tactics suppressing the Black vote. We must wake up and cannot sleep while these voter suppression tactics are taking place,” Ali said.
Robinson stressed the importance of people and organizations going into African American communities, listening to their residents, and hearing their concerns and needs.
“We need to hold those officials accountable once they are elected,” Brother Manning added.
In discussing closing the wealth gap, speakers explained America is one of the world’s most inequitable societies, with the wealthiest 10 percent of Americans owning more than 75 percent of the country’s wealth and the top 1 percent owning well over a third.
“Generational wealth goes beyond money,” said Robinson. “It is physical health, mental health, and spiritual health. If we lose that, we can never have financial health,” she added.
“Building generational wealth, economic empowerment, and sustainability are key to addressing systemic equities that have targeted our communities for centuries,” Ali said. “It’s all interconnected [and includes] access to resources, quality health care, employment, housing, criminal justice, legal representation, and politics,” she furthered.
She added that in the District, the lack of generational wealth had been exhibited in gentrification and the inability of many D.C. natives to own the homes they have lived in for years. “That is key to generational wealth,” she said.
“We got to make sure we educate our people that once they have something, they keep it,” Ball said. “Ownership and entrepreneurship matter,” he added.

WOODLAWN CEMETARY
CLEAN-UP EFFORT
The Brothers of Alpha Omega Chapter, Third District of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. joined other members of the Divine Nine and community volunteers for a collaborative clean-up effort at the historic Woodlawn Cemetery in Washington, D.C. on Aug. 20th and 27th, 2022.
The cemetery was added to the National Register of Historic Places on Dec. 20, 1996, and is the resting place of several Divine Nine founders and noted members, in addition to other notable African Americans. It was established in 1895, primarily because many cemeteries refused to bury African Americans, while others separated whites from people of color. Among the notable interments in the cemetery are Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Brother and Alpha Omega Charter Member Dr. E.B. Henderson, an educator and NAACP pioneer known as the “Father of Black Basketball”
for introducing the game to numerous African Americans, especially those in Washington, D.C.; Mary Edna Brown Coleman, one of 22 founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the wife of Brother Frank Coleman, a founder of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; Marjorie Arizona Hill, one of the original nine founders of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Blanche K. Bruce, the first black Senator to serve a full term in Congress; and John Mercer Langston, the first dean of the Howard Univer-
sity School of Law, member of Congress from Virginia’s 4th congressional district, and the first President of what is now Virginia State University.
Brothers of the Alpha Omega Chapter brought their lawn tools. They spent the day alongside other volunteers cleaning up large portions of the 22.5 acres of the cemetery, much of which had been neglected over the years.

The Brothers of Alpha Omega Chapter, Third District of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. participated in the Federal City Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.’s 15th Annual Community Day on July 30, 2022.
The Deltas hosted the event at Ballou High School in Washington, D.C.
“Our event was a success, and you played an integral part,” stated a letter to Brother Wendell Bugg, Social Action and Political Action Committee chairman, from Soror Antoinette Harper, president of the Federal City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Contributions from organizations like the Alpha Omega
Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., help us to provide a wider variety of much needed services to the community,” Soror Harper furthered.
“Your contribution to the Fatherhood Initiative exhibit and volunteer support will undoubtedly bring joy to the families of Washington, D.C. residents,” she added.

VIRGINIA TECH WELCOMES
THE YOUNG MEN OF DISTINCTION (YMOD)
On April 22-23, 2022, twenty Young Men of Distinction (Kappa Iota Iota (KII) Chapter, Third District of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. – mentorship program) from An Achievable Dream Middle/ High School, Woodside, and
Warwick High Schools visited Virginia Tech. YMOD young men ranged from seventh to eleventh graders. The trip consisted of a Meet & Greet with Virginia Tech officials, Barbershop Talk, Step Show, and STEM events at the Helmet and Ware Labs.
Friday afternoon started with an outstanding session between YMOD and students from Virginia Tech with a “Barbershop Talk” theme. Rayquotez Butler, CEO of Relentlessly Better Company, provided the initial scene-setter by laying out his top ten recipes

for success. Many of the young men quoted several of the following thoughts on the trip survey:
1. Create a Vision
2. Prepare for the Unexpected
3. When they say you can’t do it or it’s impossible, do it twice.
4. Failure isn’t the End; Quitting is!
5. Find JOY in the Journey!
6. Chances make champions! Take that risk and leap into your future!
7. Figure out what you love and invest EVERYTHING in it!
8. DARE TO BE DIFFERENT!
9. Cling to those beside you because they are the ones who will propel you forward.
10. 10. NEVER STOP DREAMING!
Ten Virginia Tech (VT) students from the Black Male Excellence Network (BMEN) introduced themselves. They then created a dialogue with the young men over various topics: how to prepare yourself for college, choose a degree, and what your family/neighborhood thinks about you wanting to go to college? After asking each of the YMOD young men their goals in life, many said they did not know. The Virginia Tech students told the young men not to worry because they were in their shoes a few years earlier with the same thoughts. A couple of key points were emphasized during the discussion. The first point was time management and how important it is to put that in place. N.Driver, learned: “Having good time management means you don’t have to rush to figure out what you want to do.” The next topic that drew the most discussion was termed “What is your Why? That theme focused on self-motivation, which intrigued the young men and generated great dialogue.
Later that evening, YMOD attended the Overton R. Johnson Step Show and Memorial Scholarship Announcement. There the young men were exposed to Divine Nine students and had the opportunity to witness a step show competition. Eta Lambda Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc (Virginia Tech) participated in the step show. Unfortunately, they did not walk away with the trophy. After the show, the brothers did take time to speak with the YMOD and welcome them to Virginia Tech. The energy was great between Eta Lambda Brothers and YMOD.
On Saturday morning, the YMOD were introduced to the Helmet and Ware Labs. The Virginia Tech Helmet Lab allows researchers to provide unbiased helmet ratings that allow consumers to make informed decisions when purchasing helmets. The helmet ratings are the culmination of over ten years of research on head impacts in sports and identifying which helmets best reduce concussion risk. B. Buchanan learned “How to measure the impact of a
hit.” K. Jarman said, “I learned that concussions can be easily caused in sports.” J. Perkins said, “I learned that a player can experience a tremendous amount of “Gs” to the head from a head-on collision.”
The Ware Lab removes boundaries that often separate engineering professions. In real-world practice, engineers from different disciplines will work together. Students who work in the lab are highly recruited by top-tier companies who frequent the lab looking for well-rounded, globally minded engineers who have had handson experiences. M. Hayden learned “How they built the go-karts and the different parts and how they are using them in races.” Z. Blackson learned that “electric cars got a faster acceleration than gas cars.” Q. Jackson learned “That VT engineering is all-encompassing.”
The trip was an overall success, as evidenced in the endof-trip survey each of the YMOD young men had to provide. Responses indicated this trip piqued their interest.

OMEGA CLEAN THE BAY DAY
KEEP NORFOLK BEAUTIFUL CAMPAIGN
On June 4, 2022, The Omegas of Norfolk along with Lambda Omega partnered with Keep Norfolk Beautiful campaign’s “Clean the Bay Day” as the official Zone Captains. Bro. Faheem Boyd Spr’17, the chapter’s Social Action Chair, was the facilitator for the day.
As teams of volunteers arrived, Bro. Boyd gave instructions on what areas needed to be covered and where to place items when each team returned. “It’s good day to help our city stay clean,” one team member said, as teams of two and three participants awaited further instruction. About ten or so teams showed up to take part in the event.
The men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, had several teams on that day. Bro. Kevin Heard, Spr’21, said “this is how we give back to the community” as he and the other members of the fraternity worked together along the beautiful
landscape of the park. Several cars honked their horns as they drove passed and witness the men in purple clean the area.
At the end of the day, 497 volunteers help collect 6.4 tons of litter at 30 different location from

OMEGE U YOUTH STEM ADVANCEMENT THROUGH AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING WORKSHOP
Pi Lambda Lambda (PLL) chapter | Third District | Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. | Prince William County, Virginia – PLL is leading the charge to educate students in STEAM for Prince William County, Virginia. On July 11-15, 2022, at Potomac Middle School, Omega U partnered with EduSerc to create an innovative experience for middle and high school youth in the aeronautical engineering field. EduSerc is a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing and advancing youth and the community through its career, professional, and workforce development programs.
Over the course of one week, students learned about the engineering process of developing requirements, designing, building, testing, and flying a model airplane from scratch. Students chose between two types of airplanes: a FT Scout and a Versa Wing. Each airplane had its own set of challenges. Over-
all, the activity helped students understand the basics of ingenuity, servo dynamics for wings, and concepts of lift and drag in aerodynamics. Electrical engineers from EduSerc partnered with Omega U to host parents and guests to witness the students’ hard work on the program’s final day.
Students displayed success through demonstrations of their airplanes at Potomac Middle School and their articulation of what engineers do for a living. The PLL Omega U program is dedicated to developing future leaders with the capabilities to advance future generations for years to come.

RAISE $26,370
Alexandria, VA - Runner’s World magazine states, “Drink and/or eat within 20 minutes of finishing your hard run. For good post-run drinks, you need water, carbohydrates, recovery drinks, protein shakes, or chocolate milk.” Apparently, the favorite post-run drink in Alexandria may not be any of the above.
On Sunday, April 23rd, 2022, the brothers of Psi Nu Chapter, Third District, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, volunteered their services at the 2022 PNC Parkway Classic running event. In partnership with the Alexandria Boys and Girls Club, fifteen brothers joined forces to man the postrace beer truck provided by the Port City Brewing Company. The brothers handled checking IDs, obtaining drink tickets, and handing out beers to race participants. The brothers showed
up with enthusiasm and encouragement. The runners were very gracious for the services of Psi Nu.
The Boys and Girls Club needed to secure a total of 80 volunteers to receive $25,000 from the event host, Pacers Running. Boys and Girls Club Board Member Melissa (Missi) Freimark stated, “We raised $1370 at the event and the $25K from Pacers for securing the volunteers for the event. We definitely could not have done that without the help of Psi Nu volunteers. We wouldn’t have been able to meet the 80-volunteer threshold and would not have gotten the whole $25k.”
The Boys and Girls Club Regional Vice-President, Brother Jim Almond (Theta Rho ‘88), said, “We want to thank the Psi Nu Chapter for coming out and
helping out with the logistics, pouring beer, and everything else that was needed to make this a successful event. It allows us to do what we need to serve these kids and bring some funds in to support programming, so thank you to the Psi Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi.”

“DUECE” P. BRASWELL II 5
K RUN/WALK
Fredericksburg, VA – On Saturday, September 17, 2022, the members of Tau Rho Chapter, Third District of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. supported the Baron “Deuce” P. Braswell II 5K run/walk and a 1-mile fun run for kids 14 & under in Spotsylvania, VA. The Baron “Deuce” P. Braswell Run Against Teen Violence was created to bring awareness to the issue of teen violence and the effects of teen violence on the victim, the families involved, the perpetrator, and the community. This run honors the memory of Baron “Deuce” P. Braswell, who was murdered in 2006 by a senseless act of teen violence. Deuce is the son of Brother Baron Braswell Tau Rho 2020. This event is designed to unite families and the community to take a stand against teen violence in our area. Additionally, the event helped us educate
our youth; while participating in an event that benefits health, heart, and mind. The brothers of Tau Rho came in 2 days before the run/walk to set up as much as possible to avoid last-minute preparations.
There were approximately 600 runners in the 5k race and over 2,000 volunteers and casual observers. Supporting this event provided the chapter with the
opportunity to collaborate with other community organizations to bring awareness to the issue of teen violence. The chapter volunteers were responsible for setting up water stations and handing out water to the racers so they could stay hydrated before, during, and after the race to help prevent heat injuries. After the 5K Run, the brothers of Tau Rho helped with the event breakdown and clean-up.
ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY FREDERICKSBURG, VA
Fredericksburg, VA – On Saturday, June 25, 2022, the members of Tau Rho Chapter Third District of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. met to perform their quarterly Adopt-A-Highway event. Over the past few years, the Tau Rho chapter has cooperated with the city of Fredericksburg, VA, community to help clean up litter on local highways. The chapter was assigned 2403 Airport Ave Fredericksburg, VA 22401. Virginia Department of Transportation established the Adopt-a-Highway program in 1988, and each year, nearly 18,000 Adopt-a-Highway volunteers collect more than 25,000 bags of waste along Virginia’s highways.
The cleanup was extensive, as 18 members of the Tau Rho Chapter volunteered to come out and support this important initiative. The brothers of Tau Rho collected 10 bags of trash and debris. Research has shown that Adopt-a-Highway roadsides are less littered than those maintained by road crews and lead to life-long environmental awareness. The chapter will continue to uplift and support this important community initiative and strive to have a lasting and positive impact on our community.

“BROTHER’S CONNECT INITIATIVE
On July 14, 2022, the Brothers of Upsilon Nu Chapter, Third District of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. held its first “Brother’s Connect” Initiative at Home Team Grill, 1630 W Main St, Richmond, VA 23220. This is a new quarterly initiative started by the Basileus of Upsilon Nu, Brother Roderick Walker.
The initiative’s purpose is to have a quarterly fellowship that focuses on the Senior Chapter Brothers of the Upsilon Nu Chapter. All Brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. are welcome to attend the fellowship. Special efforts are made to reach out to the early “bridge builders” of the Chapter and older Brothers.
This first “Brother’s Connect” event was a big success, with several Brothers coming for the afternoon luncheon. As Brother Rodney Butler, 1966 Nu Chapter, stated. “The outing was an excellent expression of Omega brotherhood and was yet another validation of my decision to participate in the fraternity’s pledge program (now MSP) 57 years ago!”
On June 18, 2022, the Brothers of Upsilon Nu Chapter, Third District of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., helped shape young minds by supporting Brother Jalen Elliott (Epsilon Beta Beta 2018) with his first WE ARE UNO Community Youth Football Camp. Brother Elliott, who attended the University of Notre Dame, is a defensive back with the Detroit Lions.
The youth football camp was held in Chesterfield, VA, at L.C. Bird High School, Brother Elliott’s alma mater. The event was an opportunity for Brother Elliott to give back to the community that helped mold him and the Upsilon Nu brothers were there to help in that endeavor.
Football fundamentals were used to mentor the campers on decision-making, character development, sportsmanship, and the importance of teamwork, all qualities a young student-athlete needs to develop to become a productive athlete and citizen. About 150 youth participated in the camp.
Upsilon Nu is committed to the reclamation and retention of the Brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. The “Brother’s Connect” initiative is another opportunity Upsilon Nu uses to reclaim and maintain Brothers through fellowship and friendship. Friendship is essential to the soul!

OMEGA MEN HELP
TAKE DRUGS BACK IN RICHMOND, VA
On April 30, 2022, the Brothers of Upsilon Nu Chapter, Third District of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., partnered with the Richmond Police Department to support the “Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.” The City of Richmond residents safely dropped off their unused prescription drugs at two locations. One site was 3001 N.Arthur Ashe Blvd, Richmond, VA (Arthur Ashe Center parking lot), and the other was 700 East Belt Blvd, Richmond, VA (St. Paul’s Baptist Church parking lot).
Between the two locations, 124.4 pounds of prescription drugs were safely taken off the streets of Richmond. Some of the discarded medications were expired, unwanted, unused, prescription,
and over the counter (pills, cough syrups, etc.). The Richmond Police Department personnel took possession of drugs for disposal. Additionally, the Brothers passed out brochures, courtesy of Richmond Police.
The Brothers supported this event in response to the article published in early April 2022 by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration that identified the misuse and abuse of prescription drugs by teenagers as “the fastest-growing drug problem in the United States isn’t cocaine, heroin, or methamphetamines.”
(Source: www.samhsa.gov / Article: Rise in Prescription Drug Misuse and Abuse Impacting Teens). Upsilon Nu Chapter is doing its part to help address this growing community concern.

PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA. On Friday, July 1, the men of the Zeta Iota Chapter Third District of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., celebrated the Senior membership (65+) of the chapter by treating them to an evening baseball game between the Norfolk Tides and Gwinnett Braves in Norfolk, Virginia. The Brothers enjoyed a buffet meal during the game at the stadium restaurant “Hits at the Park.” During the fellowship, the Mayor of Portsmouth, Va., read a proclamation in recognition of the 97th Birthday of our chapter Patriarch Brother Horace Savage.
Brother Savage is a native of Portsmouth and a graduate of I.C. Norcom High School and Hampton Institute (University). He went on to serve as a coach at I.C. Norcom and as a principal and Assistant Superintendent in the Portsmouth School System. He was initiated into Omega Psi Phi Fraternity through Zeta Iota Chapter in 1952 and celebrating his 70th year in the fraternity.
On Saturday, July 2, the brothers gathered at the Va. Beach Fishing Center to enjoy a morning of fishing and fellowship off the coast of Virginia Beach. Seventeen brothers pulled in 108 fish in 2 hours, including Croaker, Sea Bass, Trout, and Spanish Mackerel two hours. Later that evening, Brother convened for an evening of music, games, and a fish fry.
