energy efficiency comes first
SMALL STEPS LEADING YOU TO
Optimize Orient your building to take advantage of natural heating, shading, wind patterns and air flow.
SITE
Climate Consider whether your project is located in a mostly heating or cooling zone and how that affects your building materials and energy measures.
Reduce Decrease heating and cooling loads to meet or exceed a minimum standard and save costs over the life of your project.
Exceed Use higher efficiency equipment or system designs to help your project exceed standards.
MATERIALS
INFORM
Combine Take advantage of systems that work synergistically like space heating and domestic hot water systems.
Educate Train tenants, occupants and maintenance staff on how to use the energy measures and systems they can control to further reduce costs over the life of the project.
SYSTEMS
DESIGN
Integrate Incorporate passive features and efficient building methods to ensure a tight envelope and reduce unnecessary energy loss.
Low Impact Use materials that harness or deflect natural energy like shade trees, landscaping or low VOC finishes. Harness Generate renewable energy onsite through the use of photovoltaics, wind and other sustainable sources.
