LMFAO, Flaming Lips headline UWM’s PANTHERFEST 2012 This Friday, Sept. 7 at the Marcus Amphitheater, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will be hosting it’s largest event of the year: PANTHERFEST. LMFAO and The Flaming Lips headline the show beginning at 9 p.m. At the end of the 2011 spring semester, UWM contacted their 30,000 students with a survey concerning PANTHERFEST 2012. The votes resulted in the University booking the two artists for PANTHERFEST, the end-all celebration of the University’s ‘Campus Kick-Off,’ which takes place from Aug. 28-Sept.7. “The 1,200 responses sent a clear message: alternative and hip-hop music were students’ preferences for PANTHERFEST 2008,” says UWM Union Director Scott Gore, who booked the talent in collaboration with Summerfest Vice President of Entertainment and UWM alum Bob Babisch. “We’re excited to announce that the two bands performing this year were among the five artists most requested by UWM students in the two selected genres.” The Flaming Lips take the stage at 9 p.m. Beginning their band in the mid-80s, The Flaming Lips are known for their unique brand of acid-tinged punk rock, famous for songs like, “Do You Realize?” and “She Don’t Use Jelly”. Following The Flaming Lips there will be a performance by the up and coming LMFAO. The uncle-nephew, hip-hop duo has become famous for their hit song, “Party Rock Anthem.” The pair explained their mission to surpass the level of one-hit wonders and to turn the world into a party rock planet. “The music scene is definitely playing to our strengths, and it’s nice to see so many acts turning to dance. It’s a new tempo, and new vibe, and I think it was needed to turn our society around,” Redfu of LMFAO explained. PANTHERFEST 2012 will offers tickets to UWM faculty, alumni and staff as well as students in order to strengthen the connection between members of the community. UWM, a vibrant, diverse and relevant university, connects students to the cultural and economic heart of the state – preparing their minds and resumés for the global economy.
