Nature role
painting and collage by Edite Coelho March 8 to 30, 2013 Manuel Giraldes da Silva Municipal Library
“I have no philosophy: I have senses... if I speak about nature it is not because I know what nature is, but because I love it, and I love by that; he who loves, never know what it loves, nor why it loves, not even what love is... Alberto Caeiro
Nature role The paintings included in this “nature role” exhibition, express a link to the Universe and question our daily routine, in a subtle and simple manner. The paintings language set their foundation on the nature image, using reuse and recycling in a metaphoric way. In the creation process, I’ve used a collage and mixed technique putting together two ways of communication: raw materials as newspapers and magazines, which, per si, are a visual communication tool interconnected with a plastic expression through defragmentation and reinvention that originate new stories... the newspaper news built up by the reporter hand, the black and white photo or the pages of any publication, fulfilled with text and colours, gain life beyond those imbibed in their original role; this is my role and daily work as a press adviser and then as an plastic artist. The first messages, in which I analyse the journalistic and technical sense, allow me, after, the esthetical observation driven by colours sense of seduction. My eyes are lost in the immense paper sheet and are driven by instinct. Brushes are natural allies of scissors, urging the forms exploitation. Written language is replaced by a graphic narrative with a composition often unusual with multiple senses backed by colour selection that allow movement, light and shadows. I consider “Nature role” virtuous, plural and profoundly motivational! Edite Coelho https://www.facebook.com/edite.coelho.fine.arts editecoelho.artes@gmail.com
Free to “paint” (...) “Painting with scissors, cut out living colours, remind me the direct work of sculptors... a scissor is a marvellous tool and the paper I use for my cut out works is magnificent... work with scissors upon this paper is an occupation in which I might lost myself... my pleasure cutting out paper increases every day! I wonder why I didn’t think about this before. More and more I believe that a simple piece of paper may express same ideas as with painting and drawing.” Henry Matisse in “Escritos e Pensamentos sobre a Arte”
