Memorie Urbane quinta edizione!
Quest’anno il festival ha anticipato i tempi e cambia pelle trasformandosi da street art festival in urban festival. Un cambio non solo di nome, ma di concept dell’intera rassegna che si evolve in linea con le mutazioni dei linguaggi urbani che andrà ad affrontare. Siamo felici di accogliervi all’inaugurazione del nuovo spazio espositivo di Memorie Urbane. Abbiamo tagliato un traguardo importante raggiunto dopo cinque anni di duro lavoro e impegno; l’apertura ufficiale di Street Art Place - Urban Gallery in piazza Traniello a Gaeta Vecchia, la nuova galleria che, dopo un anno e mezzo di vita virtuale, diventa uno spazio reale dedicato all’arte, ai linguaggi urbani, al confronto e alla crescita culturale del nostro territorio. Street Art Place è un progetto in cui abbiamo creduto tantissimo noi di Memorie Urbane insieme alle tante città coinvolte nella nostra idea di riqualificazione attraverso l’arte ed ora è finalmente realtà. In questi anni la galleria online ci ha permesso di sostenere le tante attività del festival, adesso diventa luogo fisico dove poter ampliare le potenzialità espressive. Street Art Place apre con il vernissage della mostra ‘Welcome’ di Isaac Cordal, un modo per darvi il benvenuto e per invitarvi a partecipare, a condividere con noi l’inizio di un nuovo capitolo della storia di Memorie Urbane. Siamo fermamente convinti che Welcome non sia solo una bella scritta su uno zerbino, ma un invito ad entrare, a partecipare, a sentirsi accolti con piacere. E’ questa la nostra idea di benvenuto e questo è il nostro invito ufficiale a prendere parte alla nostra iniziativa. La mostra Welcome dell’artista spagnolo, residente in Belgio, vi proietterà in una dimensione artistica internazionale, aprendo connessioni e riflessioni sul rapporto fra uomo e società moderna. Con le sue statue di resina, realizzate nel suo atelier per Welcome, Isaac Cordal ci spingerà a riflettere su di noi, sulle nostre abitudini, fobie, sulle nostre battaglie personali, economiche, politiche. Un umanità meschina, amara, ma assolutamente vera, prodotto di effetti collaterali di un progresso reale solo in parte. Una società, quella rappresentata da Cordal, che si muove in uno spazio sfruttato, abbandonato, per certi versi consumato che ci spinge a riflettere su cosa stiamo effettivamente lasciando in eredità a chi verrà dopo. Con il suo progetto Cement Eclipses Isaac Cordal si è imposto nel panorama dell’arte come uno dei più promettenti artisti della scena contemporanea e Welcome è la sua prima personale italiana. Isaac Cordal // SPAGNA // Lo spagnolo Isaac Cordal (Pontevedra, 1974), è fra gli artisti contemporanei più promettenti della scena internazionale. Scultore straordinario, ha concentrato la sua ricerca sulla figura umana e sul rapporto fra essa e paesaggio circostante. La varietà di situazioni, sentimenti e condizioni umane sono al centro del progetto Cement Eclipses; una serie di installazioni in cui, attraverso il posizionamento di piccole statuette di esseri umani in contesti urbani e non, l’artista ricrea un piccolo mondo che porta l’osservatore a riflettere sui vari aspetti della società. Ironia, decadenza, abbandono sono solo alcune delle possibili chiavi di lettura dell’originale lavoro di Isaac Cordal.
Isaac Cordal // SPAGNA // With the simple act of miniaturization and thoughtful placement, Isaac Cordal magically expands the imagination of pedestrians finding his sculptures on the street. Cement Eclipses is a critical definition of our behavior as a social mass. The art work intends to catch the attention on our devalued relation with the nature through a critical look to the collateral effects of our evolution. With the master touch of a stage director, the figures are placed in locations that quickly open doors to other worlds. The scenes zoom in the routine tasks of the contemporary human being. Men and women are suspended and isolated in a motion or pose that can take on multiple meanings. The sympathetic figures are easy to relate to and to laugh with. They present fragments in which the nature, still present, maintains encouraging symptoms of survival. The precariousness of these anonymous statuettes, at the height of the sole of the passers, represents the nomadic remainders of an imperfect construction of our society. These small sculptures contemplate the demolition and reconstruction of everything around us. They catch the attention of the absurdity of our existence.
