Even in these times of Covid-19! In fact, if ever the character and durability of our community has been tested and proved, NOW is that time. The hustle and bustle of Downtown Santa Monica, including the Third Street Promenade and Santa Monica Place, are temporarily subdued as we follow a recommended abundance of caution. The twinkling lights of Santa Monica Pier and the palm trees along Ocean Avenue may seem a little muted. Mid-City’s and the Bergamot Area’s boutiques and pubs may be selling more “curbside,” but each of our world-renowned attractions are on the rebound.
The spirit of our community and our residents—the resilience of our profound business environment—these elements have sustained us through the opening quarters of 2020. Our families, our entrepreneurs, our civic leaders and care givers continue to grow, learn and evolve. As we each move forward with one eye on adaptability to new demands, our other eye is fixed on consistency and the unwavering work ethic that has made Santa Monica the perfect mix of world-class urban living and laid-back California beach town.
RECOVERING OUR ECONOMY
It’s no surprise the lockdown resulted in some forfeited economy. One strategy for recovering that revenue is through the Buy Local Santa Monica campaign. Currently there are more than 1,000 businesses participating, each hiring local and employing approximately 3,750 Santa Monica residents, and more than 45% of those businesses are locally owned.
