Dear readers, last Cyril and Methodius Route newsletter was launched in July 2014. This issue contains information and news Secretariat of an Interest Association of Legal Entities “European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius” (ECRCM Association) accumulated since that time.

PRESENTATION IN EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT The European Parliament has got acquainted with the European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Strasbourg, 17th December 2014. (more on Page 2)

Ministry of the Regional Development provide support to the project The new Minister for Regional Development has provided support to project European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius, stating that the project will benefit the development of tourism in the Czech Republic and socioeconomic development of all affected areas.

PRESENTATION OF CYRIL AND METHODIUS CULTURAL ROUTE 3rd International Conference – Development of the Cyril and Methodius Cultural Route Development of cultural tourism is a great opportunity for the development of tourism in Europe and the Zlin Region with its partners intend not to be left behind – this is the main outcome of the conference “Development of the Cyril and Methodius Cultural Route”, which was held in Stare Mesto on 15th October 2014. It was the third international conference on the theme of the European pilgrimage in the footsteps of Cyril and Methodius prepared by the Zlin Region and the East Moravian Tourist Authority as a sample of MICE activity. There were presented main outcomes implemented during the 2014, as web pages, pilgrim guide, implementation plan and Product strategy of the Cyril and Methodius Route.

1st International General Assembly The conference was preceded by the General Assembly of the Cyril and Methodius Cultural Route Association. In October 2014 the four new members joined the Association: South Moravian Region, Self-Government Nitra Region, Cammini d’Europa and City of Ohrid. This step gave to the project international dimension.

Pictures, presentations and program are available here Due to new applications for membership in the Association, it is planned to organize extraordinary meeting of General Assembly in the beginning of February in order to approve them. We will inform you about the results.

Following the footsteps of Saints Cyril and Methodius impressed MEPs in Strasbourg Wandering as a source of knowledge of European history and the present. This is the main purpose of the European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius, which is aimed to promote tourism. The MEPs were getting acquainted with this theme in Strasbourg on 17th December 2014. The presentation of the project was implemented on the initiative of MEP Olga Sehnalova and Martina Dlabajova. This is the first project initiated cultural tourism in the Czech Republic, which was introduced in the European Parliament.

The importance and attractiveness of the project is the fact that during the presentation also performed the Chair of the Committee on Culture and Education EP Silvia Costa and the Chairman of the Committee on Transport and Tourism EP Michael Cramer. The actual vision of the project presented the Director of the East Moravian Tourist Authority Dana Danova.

Two presentations of the project Cyril and Methodius Cultural Route in Milan On 4th November 2014, in the seat of the Honorary Consul Dott Giorgio Franco ALETTI was held presentation of the European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius with a high participation of the tourist association, representatives of Region of Lombardy, city of Milan, church officials and consuls. Director of the European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius Association Ms. Dana Daňová presented the vision to build cultural route focused on a European heritage of Cyril and Methodius with 3 spinal routes connecting Rome-Velehrad-Thessaloniki (Constantinople).

On 24th November 2014, the presentation of the European Cultural Route dedicated to Cyril and Methodius, co-patrons of Europe, promoted by the Province of Milan and the National Federation of Honorary Consuls (FENCO) was held in Milan.

Besides the presentation of the project by the Secretary General of Routes of Europe, Giovanni Pattoneri, there was presented the publication "Le Vie Cirillo-Metodiane alle radici dell'europa” during the event, written by Gianluigi Panzeri, published by Velar. Publication is available in the Secretariat for viewing. Currently, it is written in Italian language but it is preparing to translate to 16 world-wide languages.

Pilgrimage site Velehrad with Honorary Consul Aletti and guests from Lombardy Region Honorary Consul Dott Giorgio Franco ALETTI visited with a group of representatives of the region of Lombardy most important pilgrimage site in the Czech Republic - Velehrad. The delegation was welcomed by Ladislav Kryštof, a member of the Council of the Zlín Region responsible for culture, tourism and relations with churches. Honorary Consul gave Don Panzerim the St. Cyril and Methodius priestly stollen. By the Italian guests was confirmed strong interest in developing projects related to Cyril and Methodius tradition.

Local conference "Development of Cyril and Methodius cultural routes to the Nitra region" In Thursday, December 11, 2014 in the conference room of the Assembly of SelfGovernment Nitra Region held an international conference entitled "Development of Cyril and Methodius cultural routes to the Nitra region". The aim of the conference was to inform the representatives of selected municipalities, as well as academic, religious and cultural institutions in the territory of Nitra region about the international project "European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius "(hereinafter ECRCM), which aims to exploit the potential of Europe's historical and cultural heritage associated with Cyril and Methodius mission to create Cyril and Methodius cultural route, combining historical importance connected with the mission of St. Cyril and Methodius.

Final Conference of the project CERTESS in Luxembourg The partners met for the last time in Luxembourg for the Final Conference of CERTESS project on 22 October 2014.

During that venue, the 11 Route Implementation Plans and the Video were presented together with a presentation of the future INTERREG EUROPE by the JTS representative. Zlin Region presented the Route Implementation Plan of European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius. The Conference was also followed live via the Neumunster Abbey webinar. The video is now available at: http://live.neimenster.lu/ and is available to upload it also on CERTESS website. In the Conference was also presented the video of all 11 cultural route. Production of a video tiling together the mosaic of the Route Implementation Plans under the title “Along the European routes�, was not an activity originally envisaged at the project design stage. The readiness of the Romanian partner to coordinate the shooting of the video in summer 2014 was welcomed by all other partners. This resulted in two students travelling by train, boat and, locally, by bike or hiking, thus visiting all partners regions for a total of 34 days starting from Sibiu and ending in Granada. Plenty of documentary materials was collected during the local trips; a lively follow-up of this adventurous wandering was kept in Facebook and in a dedicated website. Modern webpages built on a content redaction system that provides a simple web content management. Websites are prepared in three languages: Czech, Slovak and English. In the future, we plan expansion into national languages of partners.

Pages are published on www.cyril-methodius.eu.

In parallel with the establishment of website EKSCM was created the Facebook page Cyril and Methodius Cultural Route https://www.facebook.com/sv.cyrilmethodius/timeline, within which is developed on-line communication and presentation prepared and organized events. The texts are published in English.

ACTIVITIES LEADING TO FULFILMENT OF THE ECRCM IDEA Cultural European Routes – Transferring Experiences, Sharing Solutions (CERTESS) CERTESS is an interregional project implemented by 12 regional partners of 10 European Member Countries, co-funded by the ERDF under the INTERREG IVC Programme. The project has aimed at establishing and sharing a common methodological framework on how to develop, manage and enhance Cultural Routes of European interest. Partners, thus combined the use of documented good practices and governance instruments to formulate 11 Route Implementation Plans, all targeted to foster sustainable cultural tourism in their areas and neighboring ones. The project has added new value to Cultural Routes and will contribute the coming year to promoting them as part of a variegated and multicontent network in Europe. Activities performed: Collecting know-how (good practices, government instruments and database & Toolkit); Sharing know-how (site visits, tutoring sessions, mentoring sessions and local stakeholder tables); Applying know-how (Route Implementation Plans).

Implemented CERTESS activities for the further development of the Cyril and Methodius Cultural Route: Product Strategy of the Cyril and Methodius Route The aim of the Product Strategy is, based on current trends and developments of European cultural routes as a pilgrimage, religious tourism, as well as in the context of the development of other tourism, to forms the spinal products of the European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius. Basic design of routes, description, historical connections and links, mapping of strategic sites in spinal routes, but also addressing on issues of management and marketing in connection with the proposal of measures and steps leading to successfully building of Cyril and Methodius Route. Route Implementation Plan of European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius The aim of the Implementation Plan European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius is to set cultural route in terms of the action plan, the draft of the budget, sources of financing, implementation schedule, and also suggests the management structure and promotional activities of the route. ECROCYM Project Aimed at Tourist Itineraries Development submitted again East Moravian Tourist Authority submit a project application to the European Commission's call no. 127G-ENT-PPA-14-7722 "Transnational cultural tourism products and Tourism and accessibility for all" On October 21, 2014. The application specifies international activities that to be implemented in the period of 1,5 year (2015, 2016). The aim of the project ECROCYM is to create local and multinational itinerary "Walking in the footsteps of Saints Cyril and Methodius" and significantly contribute to the expansion of the international network of partners. Project will be implemented with 7 European partners from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Italy and Greece.

Defined activities:  Communication - 3 joint meetings of the steering group (Zlín, Rome, Thessaloniki), 2 public conference (2014 Rome, 2015 Thessaloniki), websites, video conferencing, monitoring reports  Research and documentation activities (acquisition documentation of cultural heritage, points of interest, tourist attractions, incl. Photographic and geographic databases) - creation of detailed documentation trail in 5 European countries  Creation logomanual and certification system for those involved along the trail CR  Development of local and transnational tourism products

Project “Cyril and Methodius, authentic story of our country” East Moravian Tourist Authority ;as well submitted to the Call for project proposals no. 25 within the Integrated Operational Programme the project proposal “Cyril and Methodius, authentic story of our country” with the aim of creating a tourism product, which motives tourists to visit the regions involved, specific tourist destinations and events to the theme of Great Moravia and the story of Cyril and Methodius.

Implementation date is set for the year 2015. The cost of the project "Cyril and Methodius, authentic story of our country" are estimated to 800 thousand EUR. Defined activities:         

Website of the product in two language versions Applications for smart phones in two language versions Promotional brochure including maps attractions - spring and autumn version in four languages Representative of the book "Cyril and Methodius, authentic story of our country" in four languages Set of postcards Roadshow thematically focused on the journey of Cyril and Methodius¨ School roadshow Exhibition of roadshow Marketing campaign to promote the roadshow and the overall promotion of the product

OPENING CALLS FOR PROJECT PROPOSALS Program cooperation Central Europe 2020 announces first call no later than February 15, 2015 Program cooperation CENTRAL EUROPE 2020 will follow the operational program for transnational cooperation Central Europe in programming period 2007-2013. The strategy of the program focuses on the challenges, needs and potentials at the transnational level, i.e. the aim is to address common problems of international significance. Projects will be open to entities in the public and private sectors.

The Association European Cultural Route of the Cyril and Methodius intents to prepare a project proposal for this call for proposals. We are working on the project idea that will be presented our stakeholders in order to find relevant partners for the project. Route Implementation Plan of European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius and Product Strategy of the Cyril and Methodius Route (implemented within the CERTESS project) will be the main documents on which the new project will follow.

PEOPLE REPRESENTING THE ASSOCIATION The representative role of the Chairperson of the Association is performed for the two years period Ladislav Krystof, Councilor of the Zlin Region for culture, heritage preservation, tourism and cooperation with churches.

The head of the team is the interim Director of the Association Dana Danova, who is as well the director of East-Moravian Tourist Authority (EMTA), organization established by Zlin Region aimed at tourism marketing development since 2007.

Secretary General – Martina Janochova as the first secretariat fulltime member, is prepared to coordinate all the communication regarding the Route with Czech as well as foreign partners.

Martin Peterka, who has managed several CM Route projects and is in charge of preparation new projects, as well as communication with European Institutions and the CM Route stakeholders.
