This year Cardigan is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Auction with a BAM! and a POW! at the: “A Night of Heroes” Auction! This event is so much fun for our entire community and is also an integral component of our fundraising program. The funds raised through the Auction support every element of the Cardigan experience. The boys are at the heart of all that happens here on The Point and being able to provide them with a compelling educational experience is what we strive for each and every day. This evening would not be possible without the superhuman efforts of so many of the Cardigan heroes both on and off campus. The donations from parents, trustees, alumni, faculty and staff, and local businesses show just how generous the Cardigan family is. A special thank you to everyone who sponsored the Auction or donated an item. I would also like to thank my colleagues for all of their hard work in organizing this special event—the Development Office and especially Auction Director Kathryn Holland for her daring efforts leading this event and the Auction Team. I would be remiss not to also recognize the mighty work of my colleagues in Dining Services, Housekeeping, Buildings and Grounds, and Communications. A giant-sized thank you goes out to our parent volunteers who helped to transform the Cardigan Commons into a venue worthy of this five-star review. Furthermore, my thanks go out to your sons’ teachers who support the Auction in creative and meaningful ways, through their donations of personalized items and experiences. Cardigan is fortunate to have so many incredible heroes championing all that we do. Thank you one and all for joining us. By Odin’s beard, I thank you in advance for your support. The good will, new friendships, and overall commitment to Cardigan that our Auction has fostered is priceless. I hope you enjoy your weekend and have a great time at the Auction. Remember, every bid supports our boys! Auction Supporters, Assemble!

Fund-a-Need Proceeds from this year’s Fund-a-Need segment will support the following aspects of school life: Living Laboratory Supplies The Science Department is home to the Living Laboratory (located in the hallway of Bronfman) and students are responsible for the care of the animals that live there. The laboratory is home to over 20 creatures including a bearded dragon, a corn snake, a ball python, a Cuban knight anole, two crested geckos, three frogs, two leopard geckos, three turtles, a variety of saltwater fish, and two freshwater oscars. Keeping these creatures fed and properly cared for, from crickets to cacti to filters and fish food, is a superhero effort. Mimio Teach System Upgrades Mimio Teach Systems allow more flexibility and portability for teachers wanting to utilize interactive whiteboards, while still using their whiteboard in a more traditional way. The goal is to install and/or replace five of the aging systems within the School. Enhanced Student Life Experiences Help Cardigan support our Residential Life Program and student experiences. Funds will support off-campus outings with advisors, presentations, dorm gatherings, and fun on-campus activities. Guest Speakers As part of the Residential Life Program, we are striving to bring in wellknown, appealing, and captivating speakers to present and facilitate age-appropriate discussions to our student body about relevant issues including leadership, healthy relationships, and self-confidence. Sports Trails Upgrade The goal this year is to improve Cardigan’s mountain biking and Nordic trails throughout campus. Planned improvements include grooming and widening existing trails, adding appropriate features, and the newest addition this year, the “pump track,” which is meant for mountain biking beginners and requires the boys to always be “pumping their pedals.” Activity Vehicles (AVs) We hope to add a new AV to Cardigan’s fleet of student transportation vehicles. The AVs allow faculty members to take the boys off campus for athletic competitions, field trips, weekend activities, and special events, and increasing our AV count will allow us to retire our aging “big bus”. Faculty Professional Development Teachers seek to be their best while guiding students in all aspects of school life. Your contribution to faculty professional development will help to support individual opportunities for conferences and workshops, as well as allowing the School to design and offer opportunities that support the entire faculty as a professional learning community. By learning and growing, both individually and as a group, our faculty members become powerful resources for each other and our boys.
