Hello Cardigan families, I am so excited to welcome you to the Winter Parents’ Weekend and the Cardigan Mountain School “Cardiganopoly” Auction! This is such an important weekend and the Auction is a fun and exciting event for all of our parents, students, trustees, and alumni. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of those who participated in the October “Days of Thunder” Auction during the Fall Parents’ Weekend. I am pleased to say that due to our generous sponsors, donors, and patrons, the evening was a complete success, raising over $180,000! With this success, comes the realization that the decision to move our annual auction to the Fall Parents’ Weekend moving forward is the right decision for our community. Next year, Cardigan will only host one auction on October 20, 2017, and we hope you will join us again. I also want to take a moment to thank everyone who has worked so hard to make this year’s auctions happen. My colleagues in the Development Office, including the Auction Team, deserve a huge amount of gratitude for all of their help and support. I also want to thank my colleagues in Communications, Dining Services, Housekeeping, and Buildings and Grounds for their countless efforts and hard work during both of this year’s auctions. A final thank you goes out to the members of the faculty who generously support the Auction in creative and meaningful ways with some amazing personalized experiences for your sons. Without the support of our Cardigan family this event would not be possible—thank you! The support provided for our school through auction donations (of all kinds!), countless volunteer hours, and enthusiastic bids for some wonderful items and experiences is second to none. Most importantly, it is all done in the spirit of providing for Cardigan’s faculty and students, and for that we are all very grateful. Since the first Cardigan Auction 28 years ago, funds raised through this event conservatively total over $2,600,000—an impressive figure that has provided tremendous support for our mission and daily work. In addition, the good will, new friendships, and overall commitment to Cardigan that our Auction has fostered is priceless. Thank you, one and all, for joining us. I hope you enjoy your weekend and have a great time at the Auction. Remember, every bid supports our boys. With appreciation,

Kathryn Holland Auction Director

Autographed, Framed, and Mounted Tuukka Rask Bruins Jersey Tuukkaa, Tuukkaa, Tuukkaa....this is a familiar chant in Boston’s TD Garden for the Bruins all-star goalie and fan favorite, Tuukka Rask. He has set many records and won a Stanley Cup with the Bruins. Rask was drafted first round, 21st overall, of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Before playing a single regular season game for Toronto, however, he was traded to the Boston Bruins for former Calder Memorial Trophywinning goaltender Andrew Raycroft. In November 2007, Rask was called up from Providence to the Boston Bruins for the first time. Two weeks later, he recorded his first NHL win, a 4–2 victory on the road against his former team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. Following the 2013-2014 season, “Tuuks” (as known by his teammates) was given the Vezina Trophy, awarded to the “goalkeeper adjudged to be the best at his position.”

Large Bottle of 2013 Varvaglione Vigne & Vini Papale Linea Oro Primitivo di Manduria

This wine hails from the Puglia region of Southern Italy, which has an ancient winemaking tradition. Many of the local grape varieties were actually imported from Greece thousands of years ago. Arguably better known by its alter-ego Zinfandel, Primitivo is a huge, ripe Italian grape. This wine comes from one of the best regions in Puglia. Aged in French and American oak barrels for 10 months before bottling, this is a wine of real quality that would cost two or three times more from more familiar Italian regions. Primitivos are very well known for being full-bodied fruit bombs. Much like Californian Zinfandels they have a very high alcohol content on account of the grapes ripening quickly. This wine tastes like rich, dark chocolate, blackberries, and vanilla. It is deep, dark, and seriously seductive.
