The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Graduate College is the center of post-baccalaureate research, advanced study, and creative activity. Graduate education at the Health Sciences Center seeks to prepare world-class biomedical researchers, educators, and health care professionals. These future leaders will identify the basis of human diseases, translate their findings into relevant clinical applications, and develop solutions to state, national, and global health care problems.

Graduate students earn Master’s (M.S.) and Doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees. The master’s degree is awarded in recognition of the successful completion of substantial post-baccalaureate study. The doctoral degree signifies attainment of independently acquired and comprehensive knowledge in a discipline and production of an independent scholarly research project in the health sciences field.

Currently there are 414 Graduate College faculty members from among the other six OUHSC Colleges. The Graduate College is responsible for 201 doctoral students enrolled in 14 accredited doctoral programs and 72 additional students in 10 masters of science programs. Our graduate students are involved in extramurally funded research projects supported

by federal, national, state and private agencies. They contribute to numerous peer-reviewed publications, patent applications and present their research findings at national and international scientific meetings.

The hood worn by candidates for the advanced degrees combines the cream and crimson of the university colors with the color associated with the degree. Doctoral degree candidates can be identified by gold tassels, whereas Master’s degree candidates can be identified by black tassels.
