Making a purchase at House of Amber not only gives you Copenhagen Amber Museum’s quality guarantee, you will also get professional guidance in choosing the right piece of jewellery – whether it is for a gift or for treating yourself.
With four exclusive shops on carefully chosen locations in Copenhagen and Stockholm, House of Amber is one of the world’s leading amber shops.
Holding a piece of amber in your hand is both an aesthetic treat and a breathtaking historical experience. House of Amber knows that better than any. They have been dedicated to the small exclusive stones since 1933 and their Scandinavian shops carry the widest and most remarkable selection of first class amber jewellery with settings of 14 and 18 carat gold, sterling silver and diamonds. Beautiful objects d’art made of amber are also part of the assortment. House of Amber creates amber jewellery of the very finest quality, carefully selected and uniquely designed. It takes a lot of technical and professional skills to select the right raw material for processing. In fact, only 10 % of the world’s amber meets House of Amber’s exacting standards. Amber is very light and a little harder than that of a fingernail, making it challenging for the craftsmen to work with. As amber stones are unique in shape, colour and lustre, the craftsmen must take these factors into consideration before jewellery of both classic and modern design is created.

HIGH QUALITY GUARANTEED All of House of Amber’s products are thoroughly quality tested by amber experts, who have lifelong experience working with amber. Besides, the high quality is guaranteed by Copenhagen Amber Museum, which is founded and run by some of the most knowledgeable amber experts in the world.
WHAT IS AMBER EXACTLY? Amber is the fossilized resin of trees from ancient pine forests, which existed more than 30 million years ago. When a tree became damaged, the resin seeped out from the ‘wound’ in the tree and quickly hardened. This is how the characteristic drop shapes of amber were formed. As the resin is very sticky, various insects got caught in it, and the resin ended up on the forest floor when the tree eventually died. The ability to preserve insects and plants is one of the most fascinating aspects of amber. The irregularities and inclusions
only make the pieces even more rare and valuable. The Copenhagen Amber Museum holds a wide selection of entombed insects from prehistoric times such as mosquitoes, spiders, flies, beetles and cockroaches. Even though they got caught more than 30 million years ago, you can see them through a magnifying glass today - exactly the way they looked when they got trapped.
COPENHAGEN AMBER MUSEUM Copenhagen Amber Museum, one of the most recognised amber museums in the world, takes you on an exciting journey through the enchanting history of amber. Visit the charming old house from 1606 by the entrance to Nyhavn. Are you ready to get dazzled? The Copenhagen Amber Museum holds an impressive collection of amber antiques and artefacts, including a wide line of entombed insects from prehistoric times as well as the world’s largest piece of amber with an impressive weight of 47.5 kilos. The museum provides you with an insight into the amber’s significance and use at different stages throughout history. Amber is known as ’the gold of the North’ and the Danish Vikings used it as an accepted means of payment on their expeditions around the world. Amber was actually the world’s first recognised gem and the only one to be found in Denmark.

For many centuries amber has been cherished for its beauty, individuality and warm glow. Pieces of amber vary in colour from milky white to golden and dark brown. Some are transparent with or without small glittering pockets of air inside, while others are opaque. It all depends on where in the world the amber comes from and under which conditions it was formed.

She was thus instrumental in establishing jewelry house Chaumet and became its first muse. Chaumet’s Joséphine collection, launched in 2010, celebrates still today Empress Joséphine. Joséphine collection finds its inspiration in the diadem, tiara and aigrette, the different main jewels which Joséphine wore. Vacheron Constantin 2015 Harmony Chronograph. Limited edition of 260 individually numbered watches.
WATCH ENTHUSIASTS The infinite world of mechanical wristwatches is fascinating to move into, and when you first get caught, there is likely no way out. After buying an exclusive watch you will immediately feel strongly attached to it or to your collection of watches – large or small. Many even end up feeling naked without their watch, as it gradually becomes an indispensable part of your personal expression. The true watch enthusiasts alternate between different watches and ensure that the automatic ones of them are always pulled up and ready to wear. Nerdy, but true. You can spot true watch enthusiasts by their sparkling ability to talk for hours about the little ticking piece on their arm. Klarlund has a wide range of watch brands in their boutiques, and it is difficult to highlight some brands over others, but we sneak yet to present four of the most exclusive brands:
CARTIER In 2015 Cartier revealed a new collection of watches, Clé de Cartier, that in the finest ways continues the stunning design and craftmanship that the brand is so well known for. The renowned French jeweller and fine watchmaker Cartier has had countless admirers over the years, from the various royal houses across Europe to Hollywood’s biggest stars. Napoleon III’s cousin, Princess Mathilde, Prince of Wales, Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Kennedy, Andy Warhol, Warren Beatty, Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe all had a love affair with Cartier. Marilyn Monroe sang about Cartier in her famous song “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend” and about Cartier’s classical Tank watch Andy Warhol is known to have said: ”I don’t wear a Tank to tell the time. In fact, I never wind it. I wear it because it’s the watch to wear”. Whether it is watches or jewellery, Cartier has always been known for their stunning design and unmistakable impression of luxury and great craftsmanship.
VACHERON CONSTANTIN In 2015 Vacheron Constantin celebrated their 260th anniversary. In tribute to their 260 years of continuous activity, Vacheron Constantin unveiled first the seven models of a

new collection called Harmony. The first seven pieces are issued in limited editions, and the watches feature a cushion shape and a design inspired by a chronograph introduced in 1928. Vacheron Constantin’s customers have always been an exclusive club of consenting connoisseurs of which many members belong to the future intelligentsia and high culture. A Vacheron Constantin watch has often been seen discreetly on the arm of heads of state, writers, artists and other cosmopolitans.
HUBLOT In a business where many manufacturers often have a long and rich story to tell about their brand and its foundation, Hublot stands out. In 1980 Hublot defied every convention, when its founder Carlo Crocco created a gold Hublot watch with a natural black rubber bracelet. Combining a precious metal watch with a rubber strap had never been seen before but today it has since become the inspiration for watch making style everywhere. In 2005 Hublot introduced their Big Bang collection and since then the limits for how you can blend materials in a watch have been somewhat blurred. Through the years the Big Bang collection has featured numerous pieces where it is often only the imagination that sets the limits. How about a watch with real tobacco leaves on the dial or perhaps real denim fabric? No problem, Hublot can help you. In 2015 Hublot celebrates the 10th anniversary of their now iconic Big Bang collection and they do it in style. Among the many new pieces is the Big Bang Ferrari Carbon that celebrates Hublot partnership with Ferrari. Hublot has accomplished to combine two components which cannot be mixed – carbon and metal - and the result is stunning! One again Hublot proves that they are among the leaders when it comes to develop and create haute horlogerie.

MONTBLANC RECORDS THE MOMENTS OF LIFE In days gone by, people believed that if a person touched an object that object would form a bond with part of his/ her soul. Today such a thought seems almost absurd, until you enter the realm of Montblanc’s master craftsmen. The Montblanc star emblem (the world-famous white tip of all their pen caps) became brand logo and trademark in
1913 and the shape represents the snow-covered peak of Mont Blanc: The highest European mountain, symbolizing the brand’s commitment to the highest quality and finest European craftsmanship. The writing utensils from Montblanc record the moments of your life. At Stelling you will also find the Montblanc line with belts and briefcases in the most sublime materials. A rare blend of superb craftsmanship and a passion for moulding something extraordinary transforms carefully selected leather into fine Montblanc creations.

Amongst them are Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemmingway and Bruce Chatwin. As a trusted and handy travel companion, the notebook helds invaluable sketches, notes, stories, and ideas that would one day become famous paintings or pages. Today, the Moleskine brand is synonymous with culture, travelling, memory, imagination and personal identity, both in the real world and the digital world. COPENHAGEN ON A BIKE
It has become a sport to think green and eco-friendly, whether it be shopping, food or transport, and Copenhagen has taken the lead.
THE GREEN SIDE OF COPENHAGEN Copenhagen is one of the world’s greenest cities and for the Copenhagen politicians, the case is clear: the city must be the world’s leading environmental capital city with less CO2 emission, less polluted air and less noise, more green oases, more organic food and even more bikes. In New York, the new bicycle lanes are called Copenhagen lanes and when politicians in Melbourne, Australia explain their wild bicycle visions, they talk about “Copenhagenizing” their city. The international connection between Copenhagen and cycling is entirely appropriate because in the Copenhagen morning rush-hour, the minister, the doctor and the director with his briefcase, cycle side by side with the carpenter, the musician and the family father with the kids in front on the carrier bicycle. Copenhagen has 307 kilometres of cycling lanes and is one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world.

Tips from
Copenhagen experts...
FOR OUR READERS WHO ARE LOOKING FOR A RESTAURANT IN COPENHAGEN, WHERE WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THEM TO GO? Almost all visitors and locals like to go to “new harbor” especially during summer. It is a good idea to go there, because you can experience Danish culture and good atmosphere followed by an amazing view. If you are craving a quality steak after shopping you can go to Mash in Bredgade. MASH stands for Modern American Steak House, and as the name suggests, it’s about steaks. Quality steaks. You combine the menu yourself, and order potatoes and side dishes in addition to the steak and if you are looking for a good burger, you will find it at MASH as well.
DO YOU HAVE A TIP CONCERNING COPENHAGEN TO OUR READERS? Good, sustainable, organic street food is gaining ground in Copenhagen. So far there are two fantastic places where you can hang out with your friends or family, satisfy your taste buds and drink a glass of wine in the sun, while listening to live music. Torvehallerne food market halls in city centre are open year round and is the modern luxury edition of a food market with groceries, bakeries, coffee, wine, beer, delis and fast food - most of it organic. You can sit outside or if you are lucky, find a spot inside.
WHAT HAVE YOU RECENTLY DISCOVERED IN COPENHAGEN THAT YOU ADVISE OTHERS TO SEE? If you are here in the summer time, I would recommend you to take a walk along Christianshavn’s canal. It provides good local atmosphere with a lot of exciting views.
IF ONE OF OUR READERS IS IN COPENHAGEN FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY, WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND HIM TO DO? I will recommend your guest to go to The Standard for a cocktail, some wine and snacks - and to hear the music. They have a Late Night Jazz Bar in the evenings after 10 pm and it is just perfect to sit and enjoy the candlelit ocean views while listening to the fantastic music. After this experience I would recommend him to continue embrasing the fantastic feeling of a good summer vibe in Copenhagen and stroll through the city.

Champagne &
SECRET NIGHTLIFE OF COPENHAGEN
At Nørregade in the historical centre of Copenhagen your senses can be thrilled at the exclusive gentlemen’s club, Angels Club. Prepare to enter a world of fine champagne and nightlife heaven.
By Maria Præst Are you looking for something a bit different from the conventional bar or nightclub? Then Angels Club is the answer. Situated in the heart of Copenhagen the gentlemen’s club provides a cosy atmosphere in stylish surroundings with dimmed lights, where you can indulge in the club’s fine selection of spirits, refreshing cold beers on tap and chilled bottles of fine champagne.
WELCOME TO CHAMPAGNE HEAVEN The exclusive champagne is the specialty of Angels Club. You can choose from 20 different kinds in various sizes ranging from the regular 1.5 litre bottles to whopping six litre bottles. Until recently Angels Club was also one of the only clubs that still had the exclusive Dom Perignon’ 92 Oenothèque, but in the middle of June it was purchased by a true champagne connoisseur, who also managed to enjoy numerous other fine champagnes that evening. At Angels Club you will also find the very popular house champagne. The champagne has a hand crafted matte black bottle body with silver plated labels and neckband encrusted with diamond cut crystals. Crystal cut glass wing embellishment and crowned with a unique silver spreckled hand applied black flocked foil seal.

The colour of the house champagne is intense and the nose is fresh and elegant with a lovely clarity and precision to the pear, green apple, white flowers and mineral aromas that resonate on the long and elegant finish.

Copenhagen experts...
DURING THE SUMMER TIME WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND A TOURIST TO DO IN COPENHAGEN? When it is summer in Copenhagen, it means people jumping head first into the clean waters at the harbour baths and in general enjoying every bit of the city’s offerings just a little extra. You can join the festivals, the summer activities and enjoy the many delish eating and drinking options outdoor during those long, Nordic nights while you take in Copenhagen’s unique summer atmosphere.
WHERE WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TOURISTS GO TO AND EAT LIKE THE REAL COPENHAGENERS? Copenhagen Street Food on Papirøen (Paper Island) in Copenhagen is the city’s first and only genuine street food market. In the small food trucks you can get delicious sustainable street food from all corners of the world - and enjoy it indoors in the raw halls or in the sun overlooking the city’s waterfront.
There is something very Copenhagen-like and something very foreign about Copenhagen Street Food. There are scents of Corean and Mexican as well as Italian and Danish food from the small colourful food trucks, but the place - the raw halls in the maritime setting - has a destinct Copenhagen feel to it, that resembles that of Copenhagen’s Meatpacking District. Something raw, genuine and authentic.
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST MUSIC EXPERIENCE NEAR COPENHAGEN? Northern Europe’s largest music festival, Roskilde Festival, is a unique and all-encompassing experience, where music, events, food and activities form a unity with the intense sense of community among the audience, also known as the “Orange feeling”. I would really recommend young people to stay at the festival and enjoy life and the music - but notice that tickets need to be bought many months ahead of the festival. Source: Visit Copenhagen etc.
