SCHOOL OF NURSING PREPARING FOR CLINICAL
SCHOOL OF NURSING
“Faith lifts the staggering soul on one side, Hope supports it on the other. Experience says it must be, and Love says let it be.” – Elizabeth Ann Seton
Clinical is the hands on portion of nursing education where students relate theory to practice. Students are assigned to hospitals to learn the practical aspects of nursing. Before entering clinicals there are a few guidelines and requirements to review and complete: • Medical Clearance • Uniform and Equipment • N95/Color Vision and CPR Certifications • College and Facility Procedures and Policies MEDICAL CLEARANCE Medical clearance is mandatory by NY State and upheld by all medical facilities. Students will use CastleBranch to document and maintain all health requirements and forms. Please review the medical clearance booklet. CLINICAL COURSE REQUIREMENTS • Fundamentals • Med-Surg I and Med-Surg II • Behavioral Health • Community • Maternity • Pediatrics • Capstone
Please note: Nursing Progression is dependent on clinical and academic performance. Students are evaluated by clinical instructors at the end of the semester and must pass all nursing courses with a C+ or higher.
UNIFORM AND EQUIPMENT Navy scrub pants and school crub top must be ordered through Flynn O’Hara. Students must also purchase a stethoscope, second hand watch, blood pressure cuff, and pen light (required for Health Assessment). RESOURCES • Simulation Lab • RN Lab Assistance • Mentorship Program • Library/ARC • ATI • SNA • Sigma

Students are not able to request a facility location or clinical day.
“The most important practical lesson that can be given to nurses is to teach them what to observe—how to observe—what symptoms indicate improvement—what the reverse—which are of importance—which are of none—which are the evidence of neglect—and of what kind of neglect.”
– Florence Nightingale
